The following information comes from Mercy Corps. Darfur's Crisis Continues
Gandhi reminds us to be the change we wish to see in the world. Visit our advocacy page to learn how to join with others demanding their governments help forge a lasting peace in Darfur. You can make a difference.
Violence. Displacement. Desperation. These words describe what I saw on my recent visit to Darfur, where a large-scale humanitarian crisis is on the verge of getting even worse.
Those responsible for the worst violence are moving into neighboring Chad, straining already-bad relations between the two countries. The instability is uprooting, once again, Darfurians who had been displaced into Chad. Meanwhile, deteriorating security in Darfur is forcing even more people from their homes into primitive camps.
People living in these camps want to go home - get back to farming or other livelihoods - but it's simply too dangerous. I urge you to get involved (see below) or donate now to help us continue our efforts for peace and security in Darfur.
Q: I've heard there's a way to help donate to charity by just clicking on a Web site. Is that true? Could it help Mercy Corps?
A: Sure. Our long-term partner The Hunger Site does just that. Thousands of visitors visit each day to help support programs that fight hunger. Visit now at www.thehungersite.com
