Name at least 3 people, fictional or real with whom you feel your own personal identity is similar to.
It does not have to be 100%.
It can be who you feel you are most like;
or only in specific ways.
Or who you would like to be more like.
Like whose life do you feel you could be comfortable with and step into it naturally.
This can be like I said;
Real or fictional.
Living,
or not in body.
From History, Movies, Books, Biographies,
Autobiographies etcetera.
Additionally think of folks or characters opposite of the sex you currently are.

This is nice...

I could be:

  • Amelie from the movie Amelie (only, i'm not as shy as her. at least not in the same way as her. but a lot of things about her, like how she enjoys the simple pleasures of life, her way of looking at people, is very *me*.)
  • The guy played by Jim Carrey in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind- in almost every way. Except that he is not a complete description of me (or i wudn't be needing 3 characters on this list, wud i? )
  • Astrid from the novel White Oleander. will get back to this later.

i would love to be the character played by Matthew McConaughey in the movie Contact. As serene, as self assured as him.

I've never seen the movie! ONly read the book....msut reminds myself to rent that movie. I read it not knowing what it was, and I absolutely loved the astrologicl refernces, the depth in which the author portrays the characters shows that she must have studied some astrology.

*Donald Duck, if it can go wrong it will, and the only people who 'get me' are my neices (not nephews as in his case)

*Marge Simpson, I love my family and would do anything that enhances their well-being, I don't have blue hair though

*Bart Simpson, I'm impetuous, foolhardy and active.

Hmmmm....

Squall:
Probably the first indentity I saw myself is as a teen was Squall from the computer game on Playstation One called Final Fantasy VIII, He was The strong silent type, somewhat unsure of himself but when it matters he takes lead and takes care of business He also looks abit like me hehe

Prince of Persia
The Prince finds that the Sands of Time have split him into two personalities: his usual self, which although flawed strives to be good and noble; and the "Dark Prince" who represents the more cruel, avaricious, and arrogant aspects of his psyche, and is manifested as a bitter and cynical inner voice... Often I felt like this guy as regards his constant internal battle with an unsees foe whom dwelled only in his mind...
http://www.mala.bc.ca/~soules/medi402/dekon/gits.jpg
Motoko Kusanagi Ghost in the Shell
The setting of Ghost in the Shell is cyberpunk or postcyberpunk, similar to that of William Gibson's Sprawl trilogy and other post/cyberpunk works. However focused more tightly on the ethical and philosophical ramifications of the widespread merging of humanity and technology. The development of artificial intelligence and an omnipresent computer network set the stage for a reevaluation of human identity and uniqueness. More so than the films, the manga tackles these questions head on: Kusanagi and her colleagues face external threats and also suffer internal conflict over their own natures.

Wow, great choices Lei - I love FFVII as one of the best games ever, but actually got lost in VIII I didn't play IX, but prematurely got to the end of X (had way too low stats). I've almost finished Prince of Persia II, and want to get three soon. I also love the SSX games, Gran Turismo, etc. I have about twenty PS2 games, and would like to get the PS3, but I'll wait this time.

Anyhow, I relate most to:

Eddie Vedder, for his lyrics, voice, and philosophies etc. (In fact, I just received his latest vinyl through the fan club today!);
Linda Goodman for philosophies, open-mindedness and belief is intrinsic magic in everything;
Albert Einstien, for his "Imagination is more important than knowledge" philosophy and understanding about maths as a language, etc.

I don't live up to much of these guys, but relate to them a lot (in my mind). They are inspirations and heroes that I try (sometimes) to live up to.

Dean.

there is nothing but mystery in the world,
how it hides behind the fabric of our poor,
browbeat days, shining brightly, and we don't even know it.

Princess who liked mirrors (from a fairytale)
Tenar (Earthsea)
Lady Sybil (Pratchett "Discworld")

Hmmm..
All 3 are women, all from the books.

Yes, I too identified with the John Coffey character....VERY much.
Everyone! I am enjoying all these glimpses into these aspects of your self identities!
Thank you all!
ps. misterhank
I once had a fit muscular body a bit like the bodybuilder in your post! But I was mainly into powerlifting in those days, so I looked more bulky muscled. I did not work out with the ladies.

Wow, talk about a surreal linking of threads! I thought you were going to give us more insights about our lives Well, I guess this was more of an inward understanding of ourselves, and an outward illustration for others.

Anyhow,
Stay beautiful,
Dean.

These exercizes in thinking about our self identities and who we can identify with DO reveal much of ourselves! I see it as self explanatory. No need to comment on each person's self view.
If anyone wants to ADD to this exercize.....they can tell what persons or characters, OTHERS have said they remind them of too! And if they agreed or not!
Surreal linking?

Instead of simply a

I will continue with myself.
Starting with fictional.
Dr Robert Campbell played by Sean Connery, in Medicine Man.
Stephen Rea as Detective Viktor Burakov, in the movie "citizen X".
Chow Yun-Fat as the monk with no name in "The Bulletproof Monk.
V in "V For Vendetta".
I certainly do not look like any of them but can identify on certain levels with each of them.
There are more fictional characters, but enough for now.
Some non-fictional people:
Nikola Tesla
Cyrano Hercule Savinien de Bergerac.
Edward Gibbon, author of The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire.
