Many spiritual writings very vaguely preach non-participation, by insinuating that once we reach the higher levels of enlightenment, we no longer feel compelled to be a part of revolutions, etc. However, the way I see it, isn't that what life is about- participation? Isn't that why we are here? There is plenty of Time for non-participation in the afterlife, where we can rest, enjoy bliss, and 'chill' with God and His Crew.

But I would like to write about participation and being non-judgmental. Being non-judgmental doesn't have to mean we can't form opinions. If we don't have the right to form opinions, then it would not be possible to participate. However, what we can do is keep an OPEN MIND. Always, always bare this in mind. We only have our limited viewpoints/ consciousness to go by. EACH AND EVERY one of us. We are not omnipresent. We are not God. To have a limited view of things is what makes us what we are. This is how we are defined, as we enter the world, in our flesh.

Unfortunately, the side-effect of our dimension of reality, of this Earth, is that beings can chose to abuse other beings. However, beings can also chose to prevent these beings from doing so. As for abuse, this is usually 'man', as by chance we are more complex. Animals rarely, if ever, torture/tease other creatures for pleasure....with them it is a matter of survival and NOT cruel, calculated torture Man/woman should know better, but as man/woman also has limited consciousness, this, knowing better, is often difficult for some of them (more than others- biology of the brain?) to obtain. Tolstoy- "To understand all is to forgive all".

My feeling is that we should follow our hearts in dealing with a situation. Never, never start hatred or react to hatred with hatred, but try to intervene to stop hatred. It's not easy, but we should try and deal with it with wisdom and respect if we can- just do our best and try.....trying is the main thing, we all make mistakes

It is not weak to admit we have made mistakes. This takes strength. The life-force of the soul is eternal. We can never stop trying.

But life is tough. Life is so hard. Self-doubt can overshadow even the brightest of souls. This is part of the never-ending duality of this world. We all require love for strength. Emotions and thoughts do not stay in a state of permanence in our world; they are subject to this ever-changing environment. We must all endure until the end.....but NOT just endure....equally....ENJOY!

If we think about infinity then WOW, life is extremely short! Let us make the most of it while we are here.
Try our best. This is all we CAN do. This is all that really matters.

And I'm with Christ when he spoke these words "WE ARE ALL EQUAL". I feel we all, each and everyOne, have our own strengths and weaknesses, negative and positive aspects....in different areas of our personalities. Whatever we exercise in ourselves gets better and stronger- this is something anyone can do. But living is learning; we are doing something even if we do neglect certain talents/ 'gifts'. To be anything we want to be......just requires the combination of the correct dosage of energy and self-belief.

But it isn't just about us, ourselves. It is about all of us, as we are all connected. Finding our place in the world and deciding what our role is in it- what we do for ourselves in relation to what we do for others; this equal combination. Every little makes a difference. We are all important, no matter who we are.....Whether we are dazzling and famous, or as beautiful as the humble souls of the video/song by U2, 'Grace'.

I believe we are all equal. We all need to STRIVE to be humble. I am far, FAR from perfect, I cannot always 'practice what I preach', just as the extremely talented and beautiful soul, Linda, she too had her faults (she admits them herself in the things she wrote in Gooberz)....and I am not even close to the brightness of talent she had.....but I do have my own unique snowflake soul

we all do.

We should never, never be afraid to "say what our soul sings to us"

Yeah right we alllllll know you're talkin about me, I'm the one who parotted "judge not.." yesterday to you.

The problem with judgment is it is an antecedent to ego, if one is making a judgment, the ego is in operation. The typical goal of the mystic or spiritualist is the dissolution of the ego and the union with the divine. But in his teachings it is clear that Christ made many judgments, as did the Buddha, so its really an impossibility to request that anyone not make judgments. But it is a good and worthy spiritual practice from time to time.

Any tips?

I have now succeeded in the editing! For future reference, if anyone else has difficulties, it is easier if long articles are divided into a couple or more of smaller ones

To dissolve the ego you must meditate, this is how the practice must begin. To dissolve the ego one must become aware of the ego, and this is what the process of meditation accomplishes.

Many yogis will give you one piece of advice when you ask how to achieve enlightenment: sit.

But it's important to remember that meditation is not only a passive process, remember it is active as well. There are really two main thrusts during a meditative practice, pushing/holding and allowing/receiving. Finding a balance between this is the key to entering a meditative state. At times we must push, focus, and repel the thoughts from emerging, then as we grow more relaxed allow the to emerge and dissolve. This process is like grasping something hard, and then releasing your grasp, attention is a muscle..give it a try.

I should add of course that my views are strongly influenced by the Buddhist tradition. Someone else might say something entirely different. But I think most people will concede that there's no easy way to enlightenment, and that it's more a journey than a destination.

I particularly liked those interviews HSC gave links to on my 'ego' thread....Gangaji.

I like the Buddhist teachings very much.

Another way to put this could be.....Be still....Listen to God....Allow God's energy to enter our daily lives and help us chose our actions wisely.

Anyone agree or disagree?
I'm just curious
