Oprah featured Mr. Moore again today...funny perspective from my standpoint as I watched Oprah from my patient's room...from one of the abusers of American healthcare....a woman who time and time again comes into the hosptial because she can no longer breathe, gets well enough to sign herself out then goes home, resumes her non-complaint lifestyle and the cycle keeps on....funnier perspective even moreso as the failure of the system was all around me...in an ICU of a ghetto hospital. The woman I speak of has no health insurance, she has exhausted her medicare benefits...she IS smart enough, though, to know how to work the system. The system just can not work when people abuse it!!! So some of the folks who really need and want good healthcare and are willing to be active participants in their own healthcare can not get it... Sad, sad, sad. I still support M. Moore and his gutsy film...and with the Aqua lady's support, nothing will stop him...nothing... IP: Logged |

AND---I am becoming increasingly more ashamed to be a participant of the sham that the American healthcare system can be...not always, sometimes it works, but often not... My time as a RN is quite limited...

hospitals are places of such negativity...i much prefer the health food store, the book store...places that allow me to take responsibility for my own health in all its facets -- body, mind and soul.i am grateful for the sometimes life-saving elements available in allopathic medicine, no doubt. but the reason i question universal health care, esp mandatory health care, is that often it keeps people slaves to a toxicity that they are told simply to cover up with more toxic chemicals. the expensive treatments, the naturopaths, the holistic practitioners, gentler alternative care, that can lead one on a path of healing self-discovery, these are not avaible in "taditional healthcare" (disease-care). for true healing to begin, one must move beyond the limited framework of allopathic medicine. forcing people to remain yoked to this limited system is a form of social control. as it is, people are forced into lifestyles they may not otherwise choose because of fear....fear from the powerful AMA and pharmaceutical companies, that program us to believe that our survival is dependent on their chemicals. it isn't. and addiction to these chemicals keeps people yoked to the same lifestyles that ulitmately contribute to their deteriorating health! and all the while they control us through fear. though as i said, i do respect the positive benefits of allopathic medicine. esp in emergencies -- they can be lifesaving. it's complicated. Excellent point, naiad! However, unfortunately, mainstream America, is far from any such concepts. I think most folks just want a pill to fix it all, just want someone to fix it for them...just like America, do not take responsibility for onself....somebody else's fault, somebody else's problem. I PREACH, I educate, I enlighten to my patients, knowledge, learning, taking responsibility for one's own healthcare---and most of the time my vocalizations fall on deaf ears...sad hearts, wounded souls... Once in a while, though, someone is listening...maybe just maybe over the years Western medicine will be-gin to take an Eastern twist... Long after I have retired, I am quite sure!!! IP: Logged | |
