The article is from a Yogi's point of view, thus read between the lines.

Sometimes our best teachers are the unexpected ones that tick us off. They reveal our unhealed parts and reveal our ugly parts that need attention. Frequently they show up as bosses, lovers, relatives, acquaintances, or random meetings. They don't get paid, tithed, or any credit or at least not good credit. We usually swear at them, project aspects of our lives onto them, complain about them to others, and feel justified in mistreating them because we are convinced that they mistreated us.

The worst(or at least questionable) teachers are the wolves in sheeps clothing that really believe that they are wise all-knowing and all-loving. They decide on being a spiritual leader, hold paid workshops, grow their congregation or following, ask for your allegiance and tithe, pay attention to their most commited followers, are attracted to others that they percieve as successful, have rules or a code of conduct, say they have overcome great issues in their own personal life, regurgitate other people's writings, teachings, scripture as if it is their own, may jump on the bandwagon of popular spiritual or social issues for profit or popularity, write books, control their environment to their liking, and are very charismatic and positive. They may teach us plenty but "buyer beware."

ALL teachers or anyone that puts themselves in a leadership position runs the risk of coming from ego even if their intentions are pure. Control or the limelight is the natural state of this position.Preachers, priests, Gurus, spiritual leaders that teach or give lessons automatically are in the position of giving their point of view or interpretation of truth. This power can then be used or abused or a combination of use or abuse at any time. The best of spiritual leaders will come short at any time; even a minor shortcoming can affect others significantly if a follwer has given that leader their own power. The leader chose their position and has a responsibility to use it with the best integrity, but doing so at all times is not humanly possible whether they realize that they really are human or not. I'm not saying that all preachers are corrupt, but we need to keep a personal safe distance from even the best teacher because they do not hold all the answers and are only human themselves.

"Preachers" and artist differ from each other because a preacher really doesn't have a craft. An artist has a view, creates art, moves onto the next idea. A "preacher" uses themselves to relay the information and then tells you to go ahead an make a difference in your life the world etc. How may self help /spiritual authors have achieved something other than writing their books or talking about manifesting your life. Many have manifested their lives as a result of writing their books and collecting a profit. (Pay attention to their story hooks, I was an alcoholic, I was abused, I was this or that... A few are famous authors that have achieved something in another field but really take a look at the rest of the authors!)Some preachers actually do act in the world and this can only be positive and benificial to those that he or she reaches. Frequently many gurus chose to separate themselves from the world and can potentially mislead someone else to follow in what they believe is a "right" path with no connection or personal responsibility toward letting another choose their own destiny. They are so convinced that they are right because they cannot relate to others or society because they have setup their world according to their desires.

Look for the teacher that expects nothing, gives freely, acts responsibly and loving towards themselves and others, lives their life and is doing what they want, has great personal relationships, is social, deals with conflict constructively, is financially sound, is happy and joyful. Basically, they have "all their ducks in a row' Just watch them and interact with them. They have nothing to preach but their lives are a great demonstration and testimony as to how your life potentially can be. A best teacher may be the one that shows us how we need to heal and improve but the other is the one that unknowingly leads through example and inspires us to strive for a new possibility in our own life.

How about a soul who knowingly leads by example? That is my ultimate goal.

I think we can make a conscious choice to lead, but people are watching us whether we realize it or not.

Unless your a parent, I think the best leaders evolve into leadership roles. They step up because they naturally know what to do and include others' well-being into their goals. Leaders that decide that they should be leaders because they "know best" need to watch because the ego will show up.
