In my opinion, to be enlightened and to be a Master are two separate things. An awakened person, an enlightened person is simply somebody who realizes that all is One, all life, all beings are interconnected- and that love is all that really matters. A Master, on the other hand, is somebody who has acquired the skills necessary to no longer RE-act to the circumstances they are in, or to their environments. A Master is one who can remain true to their Higher S-elf, no matter what the situation. IP: Logged |

isn't it when the kundalini awakens and goes up the spine? was buddha's enlightenment not a sudden uprising of it, but a gradual process? and yes realizing all the above mentioned thingsIP: Logged |

Anybody???? ------------------ The truth is a brilliant, many-sided diamond. The great life fills this gem and colors from every side. Mystics, messengers, and sages and teachers of all ages, races and beliefs have spoken of a different face of this common Eternal Truth. IP: Logged |

Eckhart Tolle says it is the absense of pain. IP: Logged |

i agree with LTT ET: absence of pain? wow. come to think of it, life looks like a continuous search to attain a state that is totally free from misery or sorrow... and only truly enlightened people are able to attain it. IP: Logged |

thirteen, that makes a lot of sense. i agree. when you are in pain, you are not seeing things clearly or as they really are otherwise you would not be in pain.IP: Logged |

But this in itself doesn't explain everything. It leads to further questions, and can lead to one feeling perplexed as to the whole meaning of life. Is desire in itself a bad thing? I say no, it is not. The key is to be able to enjoy the beauty and joy that life has to offer, without becoming addicted, for addiction causes suffering in the absence of that which we are attached to. I suppose it comes back to balance. At the moment, in my mind, for some reason I am seeing somebody surfing, riding the waves, in perfect harmony with the ocean. A metaphor. It is all about learning, growing, understanding the deeper meaning behind things so as not to get caught up in the illusion or feel we are merely pawns being controlled by it. There is a bigger picture in all of this. I too get caught up in the illusion, as most of you know, who know me. I just happen to be feeling a lot more peaceful today. I feel I have regained clearer contact with my higher self, as something just came at the right time helping me to see more clearly, allowing those doors to open. (I'll try not to get lost again!) Life is real, but is also a dream. IP: Logged |

i think the answer here is "detachment", which i am not good at LOL.one good analogy i remember is this: a flower. real loving and living means just enjoying the flower, not wanting to possess it by cutting it off from the plant that connects it to the source of life. let it maximise it's life span, let it soak up energy from the sun, the soil, the air... and in return it will do its purpose of giving énergy to other life forms and beauty to its environment. I felt peaceful yesterday, but later on I felt so lonely and had difficult sleeping.I think we all have to admit, that no matter what, we are not invincible super beings. We depend on that which is around us (in one form or another) to sustain us, the most important ingredient of all being love...not just from some elusive source....but something real, something physical. I think possessions and desires are just normal part of life and are ok. Its when you take your identity from these things they will eventually lead to pain because everything changes eventually. Our identity is beyond the world of form and being enlightened means that you understand this, don't identify with things and handle each change that comes along being a good change or a bad one.IP: Logged |

Funny that you're talking about the word desire.. I like this quote and have it on my myspace.."Love is when the desire to be desired takes you so badly that you fear you could die of it" - Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec I think it's human nature to desire certain things in life. It's a fine line between desire and obsession though.
