I was once requested to contemplate the barrier between Yin and Yang.

I thought at the time that it was like friction between the moving energies, and that up close, this would form a sort of fractal chaos image where you couldn't discern the Yin from Yang, or black from white as in the image, but see, there are many ways to view this image - it is an aide memoir. One way, is that Yin is inside Yang, and vice versa. You can't have one without the other. A second way is to say one grows within the other, that it is a balance between these "powers". I've seen the image of T&C where the inner circles lay on the edge, and hence, they exist within and without, which I think is also a powerful image, as Yin and Yang could be said to encompass God, in that there exists no part of God that is neither one not the other. Even as a process, Yin and Yang could reflect God - she is not just a staccato object, but a dynamic flowing energy. So, does Yin and Yang also move around each other? One would think the movement is anti-clockwise, if there was one, but maybe it is a reflection of these states over everything - that there is always a balance, and polar opposites.

These musings come from a quote I just read of Kahlil Gibran's from "The Prophet":

quote:
Some of you say, "Joy is greater than sorrow," and others say, "Nay, sorrow is the greater."
But I say unto you, they are inseperable.
Together they come, and when one sits alone with you at your board, remember that the other is asleep upon your bed.

This reminded me of the Glad / Sad conundrum Linda seemed to have in Gooberz, and made me realize further that Yin and Yang are one. They are akin to you looking at the mirror, but the reflection is another you - not your reflection. I still debate whether God has an opposite, but see, this is another conundrum - what forms the walls of the outer circle?

Is it a fractally chaotic image of Yin and nothing, Yang and everything, or am I seeing too much in one symbol?

Heaps of Love,
Dean.

I realized it for the first time in my life:
there is nothing but mystery in the world,
how it hides behind the fabric of our poor,
browbeat days, shining brightly, and we don't even know it.

Awesome, sesame!

"There is no use trying," said Alice; "one can't believe impossible things." "I dare say you haven't had much practice," said the Queen. "When I was your age, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast." Lewis Carroll
