I think that they were ET's and that they were here thousands of years ago..and ofcourse when we see these kinds of things back then...we would surely suggest that they were ''gods''.
Especially when people saw that they lived for thousands of years(which were allegedly their life spans).

Not to mention their technology which was assimilated with ''powers''
