Hot-Blooded Reptiles

Sea-dwelling reptiles hundreds of millions of years ago were warmblooded, according to a new study led by Lyon University. It’s the clearest sign that some ancient reptiles, unlike modern ones, had a metabolism similar to that of mammals. Oxygen atoms in fossil teeth show plesiosaurs and ichthyosaurs (ten-foot-long Stenopterygius quadriscissus) had internal temperatures of 95 to 102 degrees Fahrenheit, even in chilly water.

Alien conspiracies keep telling folks that reptilian=bad.
Well we are the reptilians.
And science is now discovering that (in addition to us having the Reptilian Complex brain}...that some ancient reptiles were warm blooded live bearers just like us and other mammals. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stenopterygius

i've been thinking along similar lines lately, especially thinking how racist, really, we are when we think of aliens of any kind. in fact many people probably think all aliens are alike even today...and others think all reptilians are alike, all pleiadians, etc...its probably time we recognized that that probably isn't so anymore than all humans are alike...except in the most obvious ways.

Hey LEXX

I agree, but I think it's cultural too. Some say that man has a primordial fear of reptiles but I disagree. For example, many modern (as opposed to ancient) Western cultures are afraid of snakes or believe that they are evil but in other places in the world they are sacred. They were sacred to the ancients as well. I'm not afraid of them at all. Several species of snakes also give birth to live young.

I agree!
And it makes more sense for humans to have a primordial fear of mammals such as cave bears and lions who would attack and devour them, rather than snakes, with the exceptions being
poisonous snakes and vipers, and of course crocodiles, and certain poisonous creatures like the Gila Monster. However they are not evil, it is simply their natural being.
Even alligators are usually gentle animals.
(I know this from personal experience)
But in general snakes are lovely good creatures!

Yes, and they are quite soft to the touch. Most people think reptilian skin is slimy but it is often smooth as silk with a lovely texture (unless rubbed against the grain of course!). I have opened a lot of people's eyes about snakes in the past, perhaps I was a priestess of Apollo in a past life.

In ancient Greece, snakes were associated with prophecy and the divine.

I have handled and loved many reptiles, and some were my loved pets too.
Yes, they are soooo silky and satiny smooth and not slimy at all.
And most are so gentle and will "snuggle" you for warmth.
Not sure where folks get slimy from.
Even amphibians are not slimy.
Fish are because they have literally, a protective slime coating over their scales.

I have a pet fish. I never thought I would have a fish, I like pets I can hold and touch but he is SO interactive! He has quite a little personality, my friends and family think he is the most wonderful goldfish ever. He is the sole survivor of the 3 fish I bought when I moved, the other 2 died within a week or so. He's going on 6 months and keeps growing and growing...soon I'll have to get him a bigger tank.

There's definitely room for improvement in my fishkeeping skills, but he was my least favorite of the 3 and now he's my little baby. Funny how that works

I have had smart fish like that!
You really can train them to beg and follow your finger and other tricks!
Sadly most rarely made it to a year old, but one fellow lived for 10 years!
And yes! Each one has its own personality!

Since we're on this topic, I've wondered for a while: I know someone with a completely irrational lizard phobia. It's hard to imagine a soul-scarring situation with a lizard, they usually scuttle away if you come too close. So why would that be?

I agree!
So much science friction has added unfortunately to bad aliens are not human like, and good aliens are....like blond or angelic like.
Beautiful or perceived as beautiful does not automatically =good, nor does that perceived as inhuman or ugly automatically=evil/bad.
Warnings of being deceived by bedazzling and glamouring has been the stuff of myth, legend, and religion back into antiquity and back even to primeval times.
Yet humans still persist too often in buying into the illusion that beauty and light bright, automatically=good or benevolent.
A wonderful movie all should see is:
Enemy Mine.
It shows how a human man and a Drac start out with the man vehemently hating all Dracs with a blood thirsty bigoted vengeance...
but then wow!
A really MUST see movie! Absolutely enlightening!

It really does not make sense does it?
I mean, I have an aversion to spiders, but that is because I have become quite ill from spider bites.
But fear them? No...they serve a valuable service...but I am not fond of them biting me.
We have beautiful blue Skinks around here but they are extremely fast and shy. I have seen only 4 in the wild in my 55 years to date.

A baby one

thanks for the movie tip! i agree that peoples' aversions seem to have nor rhyme or reason! i have to admit to squashing a few bugs and spiders over my lifetime, but not many...a mosquito who's landed on me won't live long, lol, but i generally capture and set free spiders and other of our small cohabitants ...

my daughter inherited an irrational fear of bugs and spiders from my mother in law, who used to pitch a fit if a fly crossed her path. to give her (daughter) a little credit she is unusually sensitive to bug bites...i always knew there were fleas in the house because SHE would get bitten, and once a no-see-um bit her on the arm and it swelled up so much she couldn't even bend her elbow!! but apart from the irritation of being bitten i don't understand the pathological reaction some people have to insects. lizards are just plain cool, though salamanders and newts have some sort of poisonous sweat-type stuff that protects them from predators...and as a recent outbreak of bubonic plague has shown fleas can carry all manner of nasty diseases...
