I think:

sad humans create some and try to deceive us, with boards.

also, those 2 guys, although their passion and enthusiasm is what allows us to have a serious approach to this phenomena, it is also, possibly, this enthusiasm that misled them at some point. they talk about genuine one, but they imediately associate them with non-manmade crop circle. may be yes, may be not. I mean humans could be able to do this with some technology the large public is not aware of. and still be man made.
although if crop circle were present in the 17th Century like they believe, who knows...?! may be at the time those humans who did it were using boards to do the crops circle and either people at the time were more perplex and less questioning, not checking board marks, or theose crop circle were already made by non-humans at the time.

but my take on this, is that it is manmade, always was, and just used by some group of humans to maintain people in the belief that non humans were around. that, in my mind, is not because non-humans are not around, quite the contrary I believe actually.

but imagine a spacecraft or something similar in the sky of the 19 century above england, or even 17th, people would notice, talk about it, and write about it. the printing machine existing already. (if non-humans are using flying machines to do this (otherwise it gets over my head)
