The mystery of good and evil and the nature of this life has always been a perturbing topic lodged involuntarily yet stubbornly in my consciousness, tormenting my being.Duality- is everwhere. It is in all things, and is what ensures the perpetual motion of life and creation, I believe. "If you believe in light, it's because of obscurity. If you believe in joy, it's because of sadness. And if you believe in God, it's because of the devil" (by Enigma,Rivers of Belief) So we wonder, is it futile to try to "make a difference" or to "do good"? Does doing good actually help perpetuate the cycle of duality somehow? It seems that we can make a difference though, and that this does matter in the here and now.
Perhaps the forces in nature that compel beings....(I don't believe the human race is the only complex form of intelligence in this universe, nor the most complex)....to do evil are expressions of growth, of learning, of finding and discovering.....what we are not. And maybe we forget what we truly are in order to be alive, to experience form, individuality, in infinite manifestations of inspiration..... (more to come) IP: Logged |

My own "personal" (as far as "personal" goes) definition of "good" is that which allows us, or another sentient life form, to feel good, or happy. My definition of "bad" or "evil" is that which causes pain and suffering to any sentient being.Yet we live in an existence where life feeds upon life, where in order to exist a creature must take the life of another creature in order to acquire sustainance. Is this evil? Or a necessary part of the fundamental laws that came into play in order for consciousness to take form in all the many ways that we have seen and haven't see? I don't know the answer to this, but it is something that I think about often. IP: Logged |

If it is necessary for us to forget that we are "one" in order for us to take birth into form, separateness.....then how can "free will" be defined? How much of it, if any at all, do we posses? Is it linked to self awareness? Is it linked to our ability to remember our prior "oneness" before the sense of separateness came into being? If the amount of free will we possess depends entirely on what we are aware of, then do the actions which are put into motion as a result of unawareness....count as good or evil? How deeply are we truly conscious or fully aware as we take part on life's stage, in life's dance? As far as I can see, from where I am standing, no-one is really fully aware, far from it. We all have our own perspectives, and everyone's actions are governed by our own windows to the world. This is both the beauty and the tragedy. It allows us to have unique experiences thanks to the separateness. But it is also how we began to forget that we are connected. IP: Logged |

To do evil is to cut off one's own nose to spite their own face. Why would anybody, in their right mind, want to do that? The only explanation (it seems to me) is deep amnesic ignorance.....a sort of veil, maybe, that hides the truth perhaps....that came over us while we fell asleep and into the dream of life. (??)
