Me and my Mum have noticed a lot of weird **** in our house over the years, but it's only been last night we've opened up to each other about it.
One of the rooms in our house is definitely haunted. Mum pushed it out of the house with sheer mental willpower a while after we moved in but all that happened was it moved out into the garage into the piano that used to reside in that room before we bought the house.
After the truth came out about last night, we think it's moved back into that room.

It's such a incredibly cold energy, really unnerving. It's not warm or friendly and it's totally aware of what's going on and we have felt it watching us.
It's not a nice feeling, knowing it's around.

We know that the energy is emanating from around the concrete pad of an old fireplace.
The fireplace had been removed way, way, way, way before we moved in.

Does anyone know how to cleanse houses of ghosts? How to get it to move on?
I feel insensitive but it really doesn't belong here and it's not doing any of us good.

We'd really like some help please!

Oh and Mum tried burning sage years ago and nothing happened.
I wouldn't want to try it again as I've heard it can awake dormant spirits and make things worse.

Renovate and remove its home.

Matter of fact take the thing to the middle of nowhere and secure sticks of TNT to it.

Scatter its incorporeal ass to the four winds, just for being an annoyance to the living.

-Perhaps I am too spiteful.

Maybe find a nice spot in the wood and bury the pieces there. That would be less of a bang going out, downright peaceful.

I don't know, I'd like to resolve the problem and make both the human and ghostly residents happy.

Odds are that you have a resonance NOT a ghost.
It is easier and much more common for the living to "turn on" or activate these recordings than for any entity to do much of anything.
This is a kind of ectoplasmic "recording" left
by the either living persons or ghosts.
For example;
have you ever felt like someone "left" something, some energy. positive or negative after visiting you in your home?
These "recordings" are activated by the energy from the living, including pets in your home.
Rarely are so called hauntings actually any entity.
And do not use sage or prayer or exorcisms.
It will not work. And if it is an entity, you will either make them laugh at you or make them angry at disturbing them.
My advice is to say out loud;
"begone all that is not of myself and (insert names)I banish thee from this place"
Say this whilst sprinkling salt liberally on the "contaminated" area.
Then as you vacuum it up, continue to chant
that phrase and take the salt outside and discard it in a sunny area. This will degauss its energy for good.
Then around the perimeter of your home, sprinkle lightly more salt whilst saying;
"nothing can enter this home without our permission".
Hope this helps.
Also do this chant after anyone living visits and leaves if you sense any thing not quite right after they leave.
"All that is not of this household, begone!"
People constantly leave their resonances without meaning to.
Oh just for good measure, bury a copper penny at each outside door.
