This is a thought I had just now, that I wanted to share. One of the things clearly needed in the health field, that good people and organisations are already working on.....is better education, training and strict standards when it comes to the human rights of people suffering from dementia and other mental health problems. It is good that people are campaigning and working towards better quality of life and care of people with such illnesses, and while the treatment of mental health patients is so much better than what it was 100 years ago, there is still nevertheless much to be done in terms of improving understanding, training of those who care for them, and in one word empathy.

Anyway, my the thought I had that I wanted to share is this. It comes from the perspective that life has meaning and that there is a reason for everything (which I am skeptical about, but haven't diregarded as I keep an open mind). While dementia and mental illness can be a horrific thing to suffer with (due to the loss of independance and ability to communicate), could it be possible that this affliction could be one of the key things that could ultimately push the human race towards the evolution of empathy?

they don't call it the Long slow death for nothing. But spiritually, when a person has lived a selfless, live in service of others, there comes atime when a Soul needs to learn how to receive.

The Lesson then becomes, family, friends and care keepers to be compassionate, act with dignity and respect...

We would not want to 'choose' this kind of exit stratagy but the Soul came here to learn certain things and the way of ending is not different in lessons..

here is a very spiritual, loving message..

it's an hour long, so try to make time, you won't regret it.

I love the parable, “If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day, BUT if you teach him how to fish, you feed him for life.”
