Do I have a sleep disorder?

I’m exhausted today. It happens occasionally when I am trying to fall asleep or wake up in the middle of the night and my bed is ‘vibrating’. I can’t say it’s like a solid shake or anything – it’s much more like a vibration. I live in Southern California so we often have little earthquakes and that’s very similar to the feeling but it’ll last much longer than an earthquake.

Most of the time, I shrug it off, try to go back to sleep and in the morning I check the USGS page to see if there were any little quakes and most of the time there weren’t.

Last night I went to bed at about 10:30pm and I couldn’t really sleep for some time. I drifted off for a few minutes but woke up again and everything was vibrating. I was very awake so I know I wasn’t dreaming. I thought it was an earthquake as usual but it didn’t stop. I sat up, felt the bed, rolled over, tried deep breathing exercises to make sure I was calm and not causing it myself, etc. It didn’t stop – I just eventually fell back to sleep and everything was normal when I woke up again at 2am.

So I don’t really get it. Yes, I believe in ghosts and hauntings but I don’t think my house is haunted or anything. I’ve lived in haunted places before and this place seems very ‘clean’. I didn't necessarily want to put this in THIS forum but I have a feeling some moderator would try to move it here if I put it anywhere else.

I wonder if it’s in my head? Is it anxiety? Does anyone else experience this?

To rule out it all being your imagination or states of sleep paralysis you need to place some play-dough under one corner of the bed or bedside locker, if its vibrating you will get multiple imprints in the dough... You can also place chalk marks exactly around the legs to check for movement

And remember... Never cross the beams!

Does your husband feel it too?

I have had, many times, the pressure of something/one sitting down on the bed and woke me. Never a vibrating bed tho . Curious!

I was just about to post a thread about something similar. I have no idea whether it's a vivid dream or actual occurence, but I feel as if I've woken up and can't move. I can't talk, I can't even breathe, I can only look around me and wait for it to pass.

My husband is a deep sleeper. It never wakes him up.

I thought about the play-dough but it's more a vibration. It's not like solid shaking. I don't think it would make a dent in play-dough.

I'm not paralyzed during it or anything. I can speak, sit up, etc.

It's just peculiar and I don't really know what to make of it.

Is your bed new or was it purchased second hand? Have heard stories about people who buy items from an antique shop or second hand store, and then experience strange things going on in their home.

have you ruled out mild ear imbalances? personally, if i'm outside for extended periods when it's really really windy (without a hat) i experience something similar... do you have low blood pressure? it could be something physical... interestingly, you also mention anxiety - are you feeling more stress than usual of late?
