Does anyone know how to do the ancient Italian tradition of removing the "evil eye"?So here's the story: When I was 25 I had my grandmother's friend teach me this ancient tradition. It was to be taught on Christmas eve and she told me a prayer to St.Cosmo and St Damiani that I must recite in church during the consecration of the eucharist. It's 17 years later a marriage, 2 kids, career and I cannot find the prayer- Arrgh! Does anyone know this folklore? My family is from south of Rome, the Montecasino area. Thanks! IP: Logged |

Is this the one you seek? quote: PRAYER TO SAINTS COSMAS AND DAMIANOh glorious martyrs of Christ, Saints Cosmas and Damian, you gave your lives for the love of God, benefiting your fellow man, and crowning your martyrdom with an open and loyal profession of your faith. You taught us to love God above all things, and to love our fellow man as ourselves, professing always, and without fear, the religion of Jesus. Augmenting amongst the faithful populace many miracles, you are glorious indeed. Through your intercession, which brings about deliverance of these miracles, we pray to you for your aid in all things. May your patronage never be far from us in the illness of our body and soul. Oh great protectors, Saints Cosmas & Damian, assist us with your love and free us from all evils. Amen.

You're welcome! What specifically would you like to know? I have looked into and studied so many topics of various cultures, religions, traditions and superstitions and so forth for many decades. Not really into any of it though; was just curious from a scholarly point of view of the history and reasons for such things in any society. My interests have pretty much drifted off from such topics since then.By the way; You can also nowadays easily do Google searches for information on such topics! IP: Logged |

Thank you, I also love reading about different cultures. What specifically were you researching for scholarly purposes?I am trying to go back to older beliefs and knowledge of my ancestors. I miss the folklore of my ancestors and I want to reconnect and pass it on to my family. IP: Logged |
