In the past few months, I have experienced seeing a quick flash of white light before I go to bed (lights turned off). It looks like lightning and so far I have seen this light three times. I disregarded the light and assumed it was something coming from outside my window or anything else that is explainable. It did not scare me at all. I thought about whether it is my eyes, but I only saw an optometrist three months ago and my vision is "better than normal".

Last week, I decided to do some research and found that a lot of people have had the same experience with seeing flashes of light and that it means angels are around.

Could this be possible? Has anyone else here had this experience?

Actually it means your Christ Consciousness is activating and your God self is trying to come through your human mind.

It's your angels or an archangel. This is very common when they are around

I know that question wasn't directed towards me.. But, there are many things you COULD do.. I think one of the most simple things we can do is show gratitude/thanks.. Even if it is a nonverbal thing. Send out the message you are thankful.

It's always a nice thing to thank helping spirits!

I do believe in angels, but I have experienced flashes like this before, and there is a physical explanation for it.

It could possibly be a sign that there is something wrong with your retina in your eye/eyes. I had this several years ago due to inflammation of my optic nerves(optic neuritis) caused by an undiagnosed inflammatory autoimmune disease. I saw an eye doctor and had every test done, and he found nothing. Despite having several other symptoms involving my vision, he did not believe that I could be having these symptoms. He was very dismissive, and even called me a hypochondriac. He tried to backtrack once I was properly diagnosed a few weeks later. Only because he was very excited to prescribe me unnecessary eyedrops that cost $120 a month that I would have to use for life. Your doctor would need to be aware that you were having these symptoms in order to look for them, because it's not part of a routine examination.

I don't want to alarm you, but it can be a sign that something is not right, and it can lead to loss of vision. You can research retinal detachment and optic neuritis to learn about other symptoms. I hope this isn't the cause, but it's worth talking to your doctor about it. Luckily since my symptoms were due to inflammation, corticosteroids were used to treat it, and I didn't have permanent damage to my vision. Early detection is very important!

I hope everything is okay, and once again I don't want to alarm you. Having been through this myself, I wanted to pass on this information. Best of luck to you.

ETA: When I first experienced these flashes, I was convinced it was a paranormal/spiritual experience. I have seen spirits since childhood, and they are very real, but a serious medical condition should be ruled out. Although seemingly benign, flashes can be a symptom that is a precursor to permanent loss of vision. Please rule that out first!!!

I agree with bluejay, you do have to consider medical issues.

I made a thread like this two years ago, but I'm too lazy to dig it up.

The main thing I want to say is, I saw a flash of light unmistakably once, and it coincided with the timing of a friend of mine doing a Reiki energy scan on my body. This friend was on the other side of the country. I just think somehow the energetic presence in my room became visible.

One of my first thoughts was that maybe it's my eyes, but I had a thorough exam in March and my eyes are "better than normal" (in the words of my optometrist).

Please don't quote. I'll probably edit this later.

It really is best to see an opthamologist rather than an optometrist for problems like this. You wouldn't necessarily have differences in vision, and optometrists primarily correct vision, although they do also screen for glaucoma and other common eye diseases. An opthamologist is an eye specialist that primarily deals with diseases and overall eye health. There is a big difference between the 2, although they both deal with eyes. I must have misread your original post, because I thought that you said you went to an opthamologist not optometrist, otherwise I would've pointed out that's not the right doctor to examine you. You would also have to specifically mention seeing flashes for the doctor to thoroughly examine the retina.

The damage to the eye that causes these flashes usually cannot be seen with a routine exam, and sometimes requires an MRI. I had absolutely no idea how serious my condition was, and I made the mistake of going to my regular optometrist. He did a number of tests, no MRI, because that's something an opthamologist does, so it's out of his scope of expertise. He did not see anything abnormal, and assured me I was fine. It just so happens that the very day of my eye exam my face got extremely swollen around my jaws(my parotid glands) and neck, so I went to my general practitioner a few days later. The first thing she asked was "have you noticed anything unusual with your vision"? I had no idea the swelling had anything to do with my vision. She ran a series of tests to rule out several scary diseases including leukemia and lymphoma, and then referred me to a Rhuemetologist due to a positive ANA(antibody) test. That's when I was finally properly diagnosed, first with Sjogren's syndrome, and later with Systemic Lupus. Not everyone with those conditions gets this type of inflammation of the optic nerve like I did, but it is very important to catch it early because it can lead to permanent vision loss. By the time I went to my eye doctor I had been seeing the flashes periodically for 4-5 months, usually right after turning off the lights. I was already losing my peripheral vision in one eye. Also, prior to my Rhuemetologist appointment I went back to my optometrist and showed him my swollen face. I told him my general practitioner thought the symptoms were related, and he once again told me there was nothing wrong with me. When I was properly diagnosed with Sjogren's syndrome his excuse was that I didn't complain about dry eyes. His incompetence to not recognize my symptoms and connect the dots was shocking!!! I would've never gone to another doctor had my face not been swollen, so it could've caused serious vision damage.

These flashes of light can be due to a retinal tear or detachment, or inflammation caused by another illness. Flashes are often the first symptom of Multiple Sclerosis. It is not normal to see them, especially several times within a few months. Also the fact that you see them after turning out the lights suggests that it is caused by an issue with your retina.

I don't want you to panic after reading this, just be aware that you would need to go to a specialist for an exam, and most optometrists don't deal with these types of eye issues. If they suspected a problem they would refer you to an opthamologist to treat the problem. Your vision is too precious to risk, and it's best to get examined by an expert. I'm by no means trying to diagnose you or to unnecessarily scare you, but I've experienced the exact same thing, and even doctors can make mistakes like mine did. It would be tragic to end up with vision damage because several people on the Internet told you that you were seeing angels.
