What do you think would happen?I see the scientific community is now saying we already use 100% of our brain, a rather smug and boring position that equates brain biology with intelligence...while ignoring the fact that the people with structurally similar brains may have drastically different intelligence and mental capabilities: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ten_percent_of_the_brain_myth It also ignores the possibility of supernatural abilities, but that's a given, since it's Establishment-controlled wikipedia. Anyway.... If we all became much, much smarter, what do you think it would look like? What kinds of choices would people make, how would our products and society change? I watched the movie Lucy last night, about a girl who takes a drug that enables her to use more and more of her brain. I might go into some criticism and commentary of that movie on this thread. I'm pretty sure dependence on plastic and oil would be replaced with something less detrimental? I mean, I suppose using more of our brains would not necessarily cause people to be less selfish or corrupt, but people might at least collectively decide to stop destroying the planet...maybe. I think they mean in a strict sense that 100 percent of our brain does something. But the brain's potential is another matter entirely. IP: Logged |

@teasel - I think so. But I haven't seen Limitless...just the trailer, a long time ago.Lucy - Trailer ^ The movie is weirdly, unnecessarily violent. Lots of killing that detracts from the theoretical value of the movie, in my opinion. They do try and resolve it by having Lucy, at almost full brain capacity, stating from a place of authority that we never actually die...but that's not very satisfying. The writers chose for the Action Flick paradigm to supercede the philosophical import of the film. Gotta have major car accidents, explosions, etc., even surrounding a highly evolved person. @Charmaine Hi! I was just thinking of you yesterday, wondering if you ever come around lately. And I hope you're right - superhumans. I once saw a TV show about that..here's a short but interesting trailer: The Real Superhumans The man who can survive in freezing temperatures that would kill others says he figured out how to access the thermometer part of his brain. @Violets I was thinking the same thing. Sustainable technologies would be a priority...if we even needed technology? @Randall When I Google "ten percent brain" the first page is a list of sites claiming the disprove the concept. The articles run something like this: quote: No one's sure who thought up the idea that humans use only 10 percent of their brains, but popular culture has adopted it as scientific fact. However, when MythBuster Tory Belleci took a series of mind-bending tests to track how much of his brain got a workout, the results indicated otherwise. While hooked up to a magnetoencephalogram (MEG), a neuroimaging device that measures magnetic fields produced by the brain's electrical currents, Tory exercised four different neurological regions with memory drills, math calculations, word associations and image comparisons. Over the course of the MEG exam, around 35 percent of Tory's brain jumped into action, busting the brain myth.

Right... I'm just puzzled about why they fail to mention that. It's so obvious. IP: Logged |

Yes, there were a couple of shows regarding people who have extradinary abilities.Super powers may be abused and used for evil in the negative. There's always someone who is power hungry and greedy. For us to unlock certain potential's we would have to have a certain level of awareNess as in emotional and spiritual maturaty... What do you think? Oh, I'm good thank you I tend to read more than post..sorry! ------------------ The brighter you shine, the more darkness you'll attract. Well, yeah.. Of course we already use 100% of our brain.. Er well.. Actually, it isn't quite that simple.. As some people's brain chemistry and structure/health differs.. More than likely, they'd still be using 100% of it, just maybe not in the same way.Now.. In saying that.. What we usually think about when we hear this, is what if people could use 100% of their brain, consciously? In a lot of ways, this could be great. In some ways, it would be absolutely terrible. You'd have to consciously tell your body to digest.. Tell your heart to beat.. Regulate your own temperature.. It would be a huge hassle, and more than likely would cause more trouble than it would be worth. Of course, let's say that you WERE able to control those things, but didn't have to unless you thought about it (kind of like breathing, for some people).. That would be a different story. It would certainly help for people to become more aware of their subconscious, but, that really isn't out of reach.. It just takes time and work. In a lot of ways, being able to use 100% of our brains consciously would be to our deficit. It would be too much to handle.. And, a lot of people don't know enough about biology that they'd be able to keep themselves healthy in that case. Of course, if someone knows pretty much everything there is to know about the human body, they might do ok.. But, luckily, the body itself has that intelligence already.. In fact, our body is smarter than we would be if we could consciously control everything about it. I think a stronger connection to our subconscious is what a lot of us are looking for.. And I believe, this connection can very well be made stronger.

Not sure... I suppose I have to acknowledge negative power but don't want to. Mental resistance here. Need to give it some more thought... Thanks everyone for your replies! I'll be back with more comments later. IP: Logged |

I like that. A nice merger of concepts: 100% = totality, fulfillment IP: Logged |

Yes...people prove that here and there. Science is kinda sluggish, unable to track some of these "miracles"...people programming their own minds...we remain mentally invisible to each other, to such a large extent. For the most part, all we have is communication. But that is so narrow and usually doesn't include weird, inexplicable things. I'd imagine that with greater brain power our sensory processing would increase empathy by giving the sense that others are more an extension of us...we'd notice aura blending, pheromones, the sounds of kidneys functioning or odd things like that. Hmmm I enjoyed your post. Yes, hard to say what the new limitations would be. Could things change so that involuntary functions had to be voluntary, or else? Could we evolve so that we lose involuntary functions? Never thought of that. It's fun to consider how changeable we are. But it's also interesting to consider human limitations. Maybe there could never be 100%...once we got there, we'd find we are actually just in a totally new situation where percentages don't apply. IP: Logged |
