About six months ago I was living in a house with three other roomates. One of them had lived there his whole life. It was his mother's house but she died about 7 years ago.
His mother had a dog, named Shelby. It's a teeny little thing, a mix of I don't know what. And she only had one eye. The other one was taken out by a rotwieller, who lived in the house at one point before I lived there.
They had left the dogs pent up in the kitchen too often, because they pooped and peed on the living room floor. The kitchen was small, and the dogs didn't like each other too much anyway. So of course one day a fight broke out between them, and little Shelby lost and eye.

Poor thing had really matted hair, God only knows the last time she had a bath was. No one payed any attention to her. It broke my heart.
When I moved in I noticed my roomate was not taking care of Shelby at all. No one did. I said to him one day that the dog needed more food. He didnt seem to care, never went out to get any. Which made me so sad for the dog, and angry at them.
I have wanted a dog my whole life. So while I was living there, I happily adopted her. She now had fresh water and food in her dish everyday. I bought her toys, treats, a cute little dog bed, walked her, cleaned her, cut her matted hair off. Really cleaned her up.
The roomates (all guys) thought I was whako, and complained that I was SPOILING her. I know, I know. What the hell did THEY care. They never gave two craps about her and now they tell me I'm spoiling the poor thing!!!! UUUhhhggh
I was doing what any responsible pet owner should do!!!

Anyway this dog and I had a major connection. She went absolutely nutty everytime I came home from work. I've never seen a dog so excited to see someone. I think she may have been one of my animals in a past life or something.
She KNEW when I was coming home. The roomates noticed this. She was also very protective - only of me. If certain people got too close to me she would start growling.
Also whenever I went into the basement, she would start doing this strange whimpering thing at the top of the stairs. And would not come down. The first time my roomate heard this, I saw the shock on his face. He said, Oh my God the last time I ever heard her do that was at my mother when she was alive.

One night I let her sleep in my bed with me.
Big mistake.
After that, she would cry at my door nonstop if I didnt let her in. Then she would cry at the foot of my bed until I picked her up on it. Sometimes I would try to ignore it, but it was no use. This little dog was STUBBORN.
I mean she HAD to be at my side touching me at all times. If I sat on the couch she was right there on my lap. If I was on a chair that she couldnt jump up to get on my lap, she would bark and scratch at my legs. If I got up, she would follow - EVERYWHERE. Everytime I went to the bathroom she would try to sneak in right behind me! I wouldnt let her. And there she would be, sitting right at the door waiting for me to come out. She was stuck to me like glue!

To the average person this would be very annoying. But, I secretly enjoyed it. I was flattered. And maybe I was spoiling her, but who cares. She deserved it.
I always gave in and carried her around everywhere (she was very light). And she was ALWAYS allowed to sit on my lap.
This really bothered the guys. But one of them told me that she did seem "happier" since I came along and started taking care of her. Well yeah!!! Dogs need love - Hello!

Anyway, I moved out of that house on a bad note. It killed me to have to leave that dog. I wish I could have taken her with me.
Unfortunatly I cant have pets where I am. And the roomate who owned the dog said he was going to give Shelby to his sister - who owns a pitbull!!!! This enrages me! Shelby is terrified of big dogs - she lost an eye to one!! She acts tough, and growls and nips at the big dogs, but I know she is terrified. I suggested trying to find a loving home with out other pets for her. He disagreed. It was his mother's dog and the sister wants to keep it. They're not even concidering the dogs welfare!

I have not talked to this guy since, so I don't know how my poor Shelby is doing.
I do know that she is indeed living at his sister's house.
I pray for her. And wonder if animals remember people and miss them. I mean I know she would remember me if she saw me, but I wonder if she wonders where I went.

Sorry for the long winded story, but I was thinking about her today, and connections between animals and their owners.
I would love to hear some of you animal owners stories on pets and their connections to their people.

That was such a sad story. I hope Shelby is ok. That reminds me of one of my ex-boyfriends' old dachsunds named Connie. She was like my child, and nobody else cared about her. I think I stayed in that relationship so long because I felt responsible for her. The ex-bf's mom would hit her sometimes. It broke my heart. She was blind and one day my ex-boyfriend left her outside. I was at work. When I got home, she was floating in the pond...she had drowned I was devastated. I have a little dog of my own now, but he ignores me and prefers my mom. I still miss Connie and cry about her too sometimes.

Dear 26t,

I really believe that Shelby does think of you and miss you. It is too, too, bad that she can't live with you. She had finally found someone to care for her and love her, and then you had to leave and were not able to take her. & now she has to live with a pit bull? Poor little thing. We have to change this story. Isn't there anything you can do? Can you at least visit her? Oh, please try!

Keep us updated and good luck.

Prayers, Love, Light, Hope, Faith & Miracles for Shelby

dogs(all animals I suppose) are very sensitive to the astral. Have you tried to visit her in this way? I've tried it with my feline bud, Benjamin. It works. With the connection that you and Shelby had, it should be easy.

Purplezen that is so awful. The poor thing. Maybe it was for the best though. Now she is at peace.

Nephthys, thank you I moved to another state and dont go back to my hometown that often. I just ask the angels to take care of her and I know they will.
She is an old dog and I hope somehow she will have a happy ending to her life.

TINK you bring up a good point. I do go out of body sometimes at night. But this is something I can't control. I will try and visit her while in the astral. I think sending loving light to her will help also.

Thank you all.
