I just learned about the Bali Street Dog Foundation from an article in my county newspaper. There are an estimated 1 million stray or feral dogs in Bali. These dogs suffer from many medical problems and are left to fend for themselves on the streets and beaches of Bali. Due to the Balinese Hindu religion in which they believe in reincarnation and that all beings must be allowed to die naturally for fulfill their individual karma, the Bali Street Dog Foundation has adopted the motto "Healing instead of killing". Many vets and vet students volunteer their time working in clinics where they catch dogs, treat them for illness and injury, and then release them back to the streets. Nealy 16,000 dogs have been treated by the foundation so far.
