Welcome to Heathcliffe's Corner and Lindaland, Aquastar!!!!!!! We hope you enjoy it here!!!!!!!

Good luck with your search. If you don't end up making homemade, you might try feeding your dog raw food such as Steve's Brand, or top-quality brands such as Innova, Flint River, or Canidae. Good luck.
Paul Newman's is top-quality too.

Yes this is a slow forum. Perhaps it has to do with being at the end of the forum lists. **sigh**

Also, I notice sometimes people post topics on FFA regarding animals. I think either they don't know about HC's or they are just not used to coming here

How about asking Juniperb? There was a post she wrote a long time ago about what she feeds her dogs and cats. The post mentions boiled chicken, veggies, brown rice, and supplements for each individual animal. I think she'd be a great person to ask!

My grandmother always made our yorkie's food when I was a kid- usually rice with meat or chicken. I still don't know why she did it, I guess she figured it would be less expensive than regular dog food. It wasn't anything fancy, she usually used leftovers from when she made chicken soup and stuff like that. But yeah, I'm not sure about the differences in the foods different breeds should eat though, I don't know very much about dogs . I don't know it was very healthy, but our dog lived to be eleven years old, I think, before it was stolen.

Hi Aquastar,

I bought this e-book called Longer Life For
The Dog You Love
by Michele Welton

its a great book and tells you what you should give your dog, which is not dog food!! they say thats what gives the dog the problem in the first place, itching, allergies, internal problems, shorter life span. It was a shock!

she just came out with volume II which I have to get, I live by the first one. And each one is only 9 dollars, i think the second one is like 700 pages!
http://www.yourpurebredpuppy.com/ebooks/LL.html

here is what is the best food for you dog (which i am sure is why your looking for recipes..lol)
http://www.yourpurebredpuppy.com/health/common/feeding.html

and the second best food: http://www.yourpurebredpuppy.com/health/common/feeding2.html

and a slew of articles on why its the best and dog food sucks!!!
http://www.outoftheearth.com/petfood.htm
http://www.drianbillinghurst.com/index.html
http://www.preciouspets.org/truth.htm
http://www.caberfeidh.com/Truth.htm
http://www.belfield.com/article3.html

its funny that the last one is written by a doctor and see what dog food he recommends.

I have always wondered that if a vet has a pet, does he feed the animal whats on the market or does he feed it what we eat?

hope that helps even though I am late responding...dont get around much in here.

All my love kids

well since you all have been so helpful i'll tell you a little bit about my "friend" LUNA. she is a pure bred pug. we bought her 4 years ago from a really nice family they had 4 pugs and we got to see her parents so we know what she's going to look like when she's older. they showed us some pictures of her when she was born she was born 3rd out of 6 puppies. LUNA was a birthday present from my soulmate. i love her very much.
i read information from peta all the time and i stumbled upon a site about dog food and thats all it took to help me realize thatwhat i was feeding luna was wrong i give her science diet. i want luna to be healthy and not suffer. making her food won't take so long and you don't need to add spices or anything like that but i really need to find a really good recipe that gives her all the nutrients that she needs and it needs to be approved by my vet. (atleast for piece of mind)
here is a site where i have a few pictures of her
http://www.dogster.com/pet_page.php?i=119335&j=t

i really appreciate all your imput. when i decide what recipe to use i will post it here just incase any of you want to try it. and ofcourse it will be approved by a vet.

Aquastar,
I need a favor. you know that link you put up for Luna on Dogster, well I want to get in touch with one of the owners on there, but I cant leave a message unless I have a dog registered, and I dont have a dog yet so I cant put a picture up. The reason I want to get in touch with a owner is because I want to know where they bought their dog.

I want this breed, and hes a big boy, so I figured if you could send them a message and ask them, what breeder they got the dog from it could help me. I would really really really appreciate it!!

this is the pup.

Heya, Thorshammer. I sent a message to Cosmo's owner for you. I don't think aquastar would mind me butting in ... I know she's been pretty busy lately and I didn't want you waiting around. I'll let you know as soon as I get a response back. Oh, yes, Luna is absolutely adorable! And this breed you're interested in, the Bernese Mountain Dog, is one of the most beautiful around, I think. Good luck to you!
