Any advice on an otherwise great cat who marks and sprays rarely, but ewwwww when he does its bad. (4 times in the last 8 months
He is a 1 year 1/3 old...no other cats around, spoiled rotten....
I do not want to have to give him up.

He will be neutered(castrated) next week. I did not want to have to put him through that. I was hoping he'd behave.
He is a real sweetheart!

Thanks AlfaOmega & charmainec!
He is a little over a year old and about 10 1/2
pounds. He loves standing on his back legs. He fetches his toys too.

Lexx, HE IS GORGEOUS!!!!!

Yes, neutering will definitely solve the problem.

We acquired our cat, Oliver, from our neighbor, who did not neuter him. Well he sprayed/peed all over the place, as well as was dying for sex all the time, would howl at night, etc. Even developed the male urinary bladder infection.

After he was neutered, all problems were resolved.

The only thing is funny, is that he used to be gone all day (looking for sex) but now he hangs out at home all day and follows us around constantly. Much more mellow. And the pee doesnt' smell at all anymore.

Good luck

Nephthys!
THANK YOU from both me and my beloved!
That is exactly what we were hoping for and was
hoping someone here at LL had experience of such with their Tomcat!
Thank you!
He is such a sweetheart otherwise!
He is spoiled but loved greatly!

Wow, that's a cute graphic.

Make sure his food has very low ash ~ ash is actually bone........so choose foods that have little or no ash.

Also make sure he gets enough liquids and some canned food every day to go along with his kibble.

It took about a week or + to get the pee smell back to normal.

Also, our Vet didn't chop off his balls. He just severed the cord that goes to his balls, took out the insides.....so his fluffy little pom-poms (as I like to refer to them) are still there, although he *is* neutered.

Thanks!
I had 3 kitties in the past who got the uriniary blockage despite plenty of water and wet canned food. Two needed surgery and one died.
I think the cat food has lower ash than way back then. There were alot of bad brands decades ago.
Ahh yes...the pom poms! Thanks for bringing that up!
I want those left too!
If the vet does not do that I will take him to another vet!
Yes I thought that a sweet little graphic too!

AlfaOmega!
I shall look into getting some Royal Canin. Unfortunately the nearest places are approximately 50 miles away.

Nephthys
I shall let you know!
BTW.....
We looked at some kitties last night and might get two more!
They are from the same mother as our present sweetie....so they are a half brother and half sister to him.

Awwww Lexx, your little black panther has a sweet look in his/her eye

Re the ash content in a lot of catfood -- I started buying vegetarian crunchies and squishy food for my little boys -- as a treat I sometimes mix a little tuna or chicken into the squishy food.
http://www.petfoodshop.com/index.cfm?id=772197&fuseaction=browse&pageid=38

One of my furry fellas doesn't have any teeth, so I wet down the crunchies for him. I also give them Missing Link and their coats have never been so soft and healthy-looking. Neither of them has had any UTI's in the 4 years I've had them.....

I only had one tomcat that continued to spray after he was neutered (although he was adopted and several years old when he was fixed) -- the rest adapted to the loss of their mancathood and never marked again.

PS: Love the pic of him dancing with the red octopus
He is *such* a handsome boy!!

That is the little female!
Her brother is a tiny wide eyed runt but adorable too!
We are considering taking both!

Zala!
Thanks for the advice! I've been feeding him a variety so as to alleviate any ill effects from any one kind or brand of food. I carefully watch the ash content.

Yes the little she panther has a sweet face!
Her looks are very sultry IRL. She is quiet and her tiny brother a real talker!

PS.The red octopus is still one of our big guy's favorites! Thank you Zala!

Neutering on hold until I find another vet. The one we were using is an idiot. I asked her if "Revolution" causes seizures. She said no. I took him in for seizures and she wanted to dope him on barbituates and ant-seizure meds. I noticed that only for the first week after applying Revolution does he have seizures.
I just do not trust her. And she gets all sadistically giggly about removing his pack as she calls it. She has also been rather pushy about declawing. Forget that! Her way is to actually remove the last knuckle and finger tips!
Suffice it to say, she is an expensive creepy b!tch!

Eeek! She does sound kind of strange!!! I never heard of a Vet "pushing" declawing before! I have never, and would never get my cats declawed!

Also weird that she giggles about talking about neutering! How old is she?

Are there any holistic Vets in your area? Put it out to the Universe that you need an awesome Vet.

I think she is late 30s early 40s.
She also refuses to give him the feline leukemia vaccine because he is an indoor cat.
No holistic vets less than an hours drive and they are way too expensive! I am doing without
so I can have cats. Its always $80 to $125 each time he goes for simple things. Her neutering is nearly twice that. If we get two more the vet costs are an awful lot. I may go back to doing the vaccines myself.

OK, how about your local Humane Society? Here our humane society offers low cost spay and neutering. The only thing is that they have a long waiting list b/c everyone of course wants to do it there.

They occasionally have periods that they assign certain Vets in the area to offer low cost fees.

How about just calling your local Humane Society and asking them if 1. they offer low cost spay/neutering and 2. if they can recommend anyone in the area who is low cost/reasonable fees.

Good luck.
