Hello everyone

I need your help...a few months ago a black cat started making my backyard his home especially since I feed the birds and had to constantly chase him away until one day I went out there and made a deal with him. I would feed him and he would stop chasing the birds. It worked and he became very accustomed to his routine feeding times. He came closer and closer each day until he would let me pet him. About a week and a half ago I couldn't bear having him out there in the cold sleeping in a little shed so I took him to the shelter to get him adopted out. I have a 10 year old black and white cat I rescued when he was a baby and I have a 12 year old dog. My dog loves cats and has no problems with this cat. My cat however hates other cats especially since he is an indoor cat but gets to watch all back yard action and knows this black cat would patrol his back yard.....so because of this I could not take in this black cat I am so fond of. Even when I came home and left the carrier on the floor my cat's fur stood up and he got into attack mode

I call the shelter every other day, I told them if they think he is unadoptable to let me know and I will take him away from there. I thought he was a kitten about a year old now they say he is a little more than that. He is shy and a little skiddish and they tell me he won't come out of his cage.

I guess what I am asking is how were you guys able to introduce a stray cat into your home with another resident cat. I have done some research on how to slowly introduce the two but I am afraid my cat is absolutely adamant no other cat. He doesn't mind dogs but hates cats. I also don't want them adopting him out now because unfortunately there are ignorants out there who see black cats as show cases this time of year

Please, I welcome all suggestions and advice...thank you

I've heard that it takes time. Keep them separate until the new one is accepted.
