My little man is a pekingese.
He started scratching like mad after Christmas.
It's been going on and off since.
We checked for flees. None.
We de-wormed him. Nothing came out.
We changed the food a few times.
We changed shampoo.
We took him to the vet to empty his sacks.
We give him vitamins in the form of raw carrots, which he loves.
He has a week or so when he stops scratching, and then it starts again.
It drives us nuts.

Any suggestions?

1. Possibly allergic to a plant, tree or shrub in your local vicinity?

My cat Yoda (RIP in Heaven, now) had a terrible itch skin condition, even pulled his fur out all over........when I moved from one town to the next it completely stopped. I can only guess he was allergic to something local in my neighborhood.

2. Dry skin? Have you tried any oily supplements? Fatty acids?

3. Could it just be behaviour? Get his mind busy on something else......a new chew toy, more excercise?

Nephthys,
There is no new plants or anything around him.
He is 6 years old and grew up in this place.
He has his toys and teddy bears which he loves to play with. But they are all old, no new ones. All bought before last Xmas when it started.
I thought about changing his environment and started taking him with me to supermarket trips, which I never did before. It helped for a week and then he started scratching again. I registered on Dogster and read a lot, but couldn't find anything which I haven't tried yet. Honestly, I feel so sorry for him, cos if it drives me mad, I can imagine what it's like for him!

Hang on, I just thought of something. There is one toy he got for last Xmas, actually. It's a soft toy sheep, very cuddly and he loves it.
I am going to put it away for some time and see if there is any difference in his behaviour.

thanx for the idea!

Right, the sheep toy in question is put away safely.

Dog is still scratching away. Will give it a few more days.

Have you tried #2?

What about washing his bedding? Bed + any and all blankets.

HI, Neph, no I have not tried 2nd obtion.
What supplements are they, any advice?

He doesn't have beddings, as it's a very hot climate here. He either sleeps on the sofa, or my bed or on cool floor tiles. His teddies are washed regularly in w/m.

I just did a search on "fatty acids for pets" and this article came up, looks really good:

I have some fish oil capsules left in the cupboard, wonder if I should try those?

Will check for yeast too, thanks!

Funny how the itching goes away for a day or so and then comes back.

He doesn't scratch when he is outside walking.
It's like he forgets, because he is too busy going about his business.

That's what I meant earlier when I mentioned a new chew toy or more excercise

Neph,
I took him to the beach yesterday and dunked him in the sea. He hated it, but obviously it took his little mind off scratching and he is better today.
Tough love!
