The vet stuck a needle in her paw (to make it easy to kill her) and sent her home to die 7 years ago, but my mom refused to put her to sleep. She got better and lived many more happy years. She became blind and didn't move around much the last few months, but she was loved. She really enjoyed having a bath, and one morning during a happy bathtime, she groaned once and passed away.
