We have had a half Lab and half Huskey mix boy pup, for several months, adopted him from a family that couldnt care for him anymore when he was 3 months.

He is approaching a year and chews the heck out of everything when not in sight.

He is so sweet, cuddly, funny, he talks like a Huskey (I wuv u) and a very good dog otherwise.

But if he has not been worn out, stimulated mentally and physically he, left alone for 5 seconds will chew up everything in sight.

We have started kenneling him, he doesnt mind it, it is we humans that feel bad.

We dont always have time to wear him out daily.

Any suggestions?

I have a little red wagon that I use for yard work, and a harness for him, I have considered hooking him up to it and having him pull bricks or something around the neighborhood just to get the working dog blood in him satisfied!

thanks in advance!

I know you feel about kenneling we have to do that with our chi when we go out she destroys a lot of things, sounds like you have the right idea by burning up energy.

Are there any younger dogs nearby maby playing with younger more energetic dogs would help

O, and we do have another dog, a female boxer mix who is not really a dog but an angel, never has done anything wrong!

She is about a year older than him and they play well and get along great! (I can hear them wrestling in the backyard now...)

if you have a harness, he can pull a car tyre on rope to start with, then when he gets used to that, attach wagon and add weight as necessary. they love it! especially pulling breeds like yours since they were built for sledding.

before you leave him to go out, try putting down a dog toy with treats inside, like the kong or similar, which can be stuffed with treats and keeps them occupied for a little while.

Thank YOU!!!

I plan to do exactly so!

Watched one of my favirot shows..."Too Cute" with Alaskan Malamutes and started them off young and slow...to pull a "sled" tho in the summer basically plywood with added weight on top..

Yes I am looking forward to "sledding" my Lab/Huseky mix...as he will one day return back up north with me!

You could also try a weighted harness, like Caeasar Milan does with some extremely energetic dogs.

looks like:
http://www.amazon.com/ABO-Gear-Aussie-Naturals-Backpack/dp/B002RL9GJG/ref=pd_sim_sbs_petsupplies_3

it helps to give them a better workout and tires them out more when you take them on a walk.

Sounds like typical dog that needs to get out daily, otherwise like humans, they go stir crazy and can get a bit wild, especially the more energitic ones like huskies - the ones that really need a "job", otherwise they arent happy and will want to tear things up or get anxtious when you leave them.

I think regular exercise will do him wonders.

Labs are also extremely energetic by nature and 'worker dogs'. They also live better when they have a job to do. I think labs are usually hunting dogs and swimmers. Going to a lake, playing fetch off a dock and letting it swim around, hunt and chase things, might help it. It looks more lab than husky.

When you think about how much excersise dogs would get in the wild, you can understand why they get anxiety and/or tear things up living in a home most of their lives. It's got to feel like being in jail or something, to them.

Thanks T!

I have had full bread Labs and full bread Huskies and Poe, the pup, has the best and the worst of both of them.

I like the idea of a weighted harness!!!
