A pair of dogs caused three hours of traffic mayhem after accidentally taking their owner’s truck for a spin and crashing it into the river near Tulsa, Okla.

The dogs, Roscoe and Luna, accidentally put the truck into gear and cruised three blocks down the four-lane highway along the Arkansas River, narrowly missing joggers and oncoming traffic before it rolled through a stop sign and crashed into the river bed, authorities said.

First responders who arrived at the accident scene around 6 p.m. Tuesday were shocked to find a border collie and a Labrador at the wheel of the pick-up.

“When the fire department arrived they were looking around for the driver, but no one was in the front but the dogs,” said Tulsa Police Department spokeswoman Jill Roberson.

Four witnesses called police to report the runaway truck, which had gathered “pretty good speed” from the owner's house down the hill to the river, Roberson said.

“Two young individuals on skateboards saw the truck take off without a driver,” Roberson said. “They tried to catch up with the truck, but weren’t able to before it crashed.”

At first, the truck’s owner, Scott, who did not give his last name, thought the truck had been towed, as he’d only left the car unattended outside for 15 minutes.

"I got around to the front of the house where the truck was, and it's like not there," he said. "And I was like 'did I get towed?'"

The dogs managed to escape without injury, though much less can be said of the truck, authorities said.

No other damage to city property was caused and authorities had cleared the scene by 9 p.m. Meanwhile, police said they released the dogs, who wagged their tails as they exited the truck, blissfully unaware of the commotion caused by their rush-hour joyride.
