Everyone who owns an animal has a responsibility to provide for the care of that animal, both during the person’s lifetime, and after the person’s death.
Many people consider their animals to be their children, and they do not want their animals to go to an animal shelter and risk being euthanized just because they can no longer take care of them.
The Estate Planning provisions that can be made for animals are similar to the provisions that can be made for minor children. By making adequate provisions in advance, you can have the peace of mind to know that your wishes regarding the on-going care of your animals will be followed. It also helps your family know what to do during a crisis situation when the care of the animals may not be their primary concern.
