I have to tell you what just happened to me this week. I was in the car driving to an event on the highway thinking about "roadkill" because I needed to replenish my feather collection. So Just then I saw a plump pheasant on the side of the road, and I'm thinking I'm being gifted with a fresh carcass and clean new feathers. So I pulled over, backed up cautiously, and found he was alive, a beautiful male, with a broken leg, unable to move off the shoulder.

First thing I thought of was I cannot leave him there to die, and I could never receive those feathers if he died in front of me. So to make a long story short, I called the Wildlife Rescue Center, found out it was open 24 hrs, made a U-ey just up ahead on the highway and dropped him off for some TLC. Hpthey said he must have been hit not more than 5 minutes before I spotted him. So now I pray that his leg can take a splint and the bone is not shattered.

Sad part was hearing how the game commission raises these birds in captivity solely for hunters to shoot and then releases them where they just wander around clueless. They are such easy targets, walking right into paper bags with feed, you don't even need a gun. They never breed in the wild because they are not native, so what is the fate of that rescued bird? Poor thing.

Oh well, don't know if it was the right thing to do. I was late for my event but it was a fruitful afternoon for me and everyone was glad to hear tgevpheasant was rescued.

You did the right thing. A painful death was certain if not.

At least you extended its life, because it was surely a goner.
