I'm under the impression whether correct or not that Unitarian churches are cool with New Age stuff. Is this correct? There's a Unity church near where I work, and I stopped there today, because I saw people outside it. They're actually in a business park.Anyway, I went in, and no one said anything to me, which I was a little surprised and relieved by. I looked at the small amount of literature they had out. They do yogo classes for $25 a month ($40 for a family couple -must be gay friendly). Cool. The literature seems to suggest a bit of a Christian theme. There's a free Reiki Circle once a month. There's also Reiki training it looks like. So do you think I'll find LL-type people there? I think it still seems a bit churchy to me, but I'm not positive. IP: Logged |

A religion for people who do not want a religion ?Seems weird. Just another way to herd free thinkers into a group with a title?. But I suppose social statistics require everybody to have a religion. IP: Logged |

From what I understand, Unitarianism is a way for people to come together to worship God with a minimum of labels or hang-ups. A lot of people who wouldn't consider themselves "churchy" or religious but still spiritual start going there once they have kids so they can have a framework for explaining faith in something more than material things.Yes, I'd imagine that they would be open to New Age Stuff. AG, Hi! There are two different churches. One is Unitarian Universalist...They welcome all beliefs...except hatred. I have attended a church here in my town. They honor all living things, promote equality, and generally just doing good works, in the home, the church and the community. There are Christians there, Bhudists, Pagans, and even atheists. The general concept is to be the best person one can be. Just last Sunday, to celebrate the Festival of St. Francis of Assis they had all who wanted bring their pets to church to be blessed. They also have yoga classes, belly dancing classes, book clubs, and much more. The Unitarians have been around for a long, long time and have had many famous folks as members. The Unity church is a bit different. They are much more metaphysical, but they are definitely Christian, tho fairly liberal. I attended Unity churches both in Houston and here where I live now. They practice meditation and teach from the Bible using metaphysical interpretations. I have a beautiful metaphysical Bible dictionary that I purchased from their book store. You can go online and read alot about them. They have a "Daily Word" there on the site that offers a meditation and contemplation for each day. I think both churches are excellent and the only churches that I feel comfortable attending...or let's say at most other churches I felt worse coming out than I did going in....with these that's not the case.
