MiaMammy08, they refer to it as a "religion" but it falls short of Religion in it`s standard definition. I would call it another Esoteric Philosophy It is a young philosophy and has had it`s share of troubles; many due to accusations of substantial plagarism. It did so because it draws heavily on many different Faiiths/philosophys like sufism. This quote I read reminded me of a cult status: "But critics contend that, while Eckankar promotes itself as a path to ending karma and reincarnation, Eckankar writings also speak of karma and reincarnation returning to members who leave Eckankar." I attended one meeting and found it lacking for my needs. juni ------------------ ~ What we do for ourselves dies with us. A friend gave me a couple of books on this faith many years ago when I was having intense OBE's and hearing a variety of different sounds as I was in the beginning stages of sleep. This has been going on all my life, but there are periods of time where they get more frequent and intense. Apparently his mother was a member of the group when he was a young child so he knew a bit about it and had some books to share. Anyway, it was so long ago..all i remember was finding what one of the books had to say about the "sounds" in certain stages of "sleep" and what they signified very informative and helpful. It was quite interesting, but my path took me elsewhere. What sparked your interest in this group/faith? IP: Logged |

I just wanted to know if any of you on here have anything to say about them.------------------ Yes i'm a capricorn with an aries moon and gemini rising. oh yea... IP: Logged |

The explanations on the Sounds were quite interesting, I do remember that. Occasionally, for me, they come with being engulfed in a bright sun-like light. The sounds have changed over the years. Thankfully, the electicity...piercing one has died down. It's changed lately to a different tone.Still can't quite make total sense of it, but they arent as scary as they used to be. IP: Logged |

OBE? They knight people? (Order of the British Empire). Awesome. I'm kidding, of course. What does it actually stand for in this context and what does it mean? IP: Logged |

I'd love to have my kind of OBE (knighthood), but alas I'm not English . But, hey, maybe there is a parallel universe in which an English Platero exists, and she's a Dame Commander (that title is soooo cool, or at least I think so). I can only hope As for the other kind of OBE, I've never experienced that. If I can ask, what is it like? How do you do it? Are you hypnotized first? IP: Logged |

How To Have an OBE(Out of Body Experience) By amiann | Published: May 30, 2012 | EditThere are many reasons to have an OBE. It will raise your vibratory level. This will allow you to be more psychic. It will give you more physical energy. It acts as a kind of tune up. I have even heard of actual diseases being cured. I have no doubt this is true. I will tell you the easiest way I have found to have one. 1. Set your alarm to wake up in the middle of the night, after 2-3 solid hours of sleep. Get up and do something active such as exercise or take a walk outside. If you don’t want to do that, rouse yourself as much as you can. Try to do some activity which rouses you in body and mind. Stay up for about one and a half or two hours. 2. Go back to bed and fall into a state of sleep. You may feel your “body” try to rise. Allow that to happen. No one is exactly sure “what” is leaving but something is. That something is what takes you on the OBE journey. The most important thing to do( and the hardest) is to relax and go with it. You will probably have strange sensations accompanying your body rising . You may feel vibrations or a loud clanging noise. You may feel as if you are in a speeding elevator. This is when most people give up. I am still afraid of these sensations, as I have not done an OBE in several months. I, always, was a little afraid, even when I was doing them regularly. However, they will not hurt you. People leave their bodies, as a natural state, and don’t know it. Often, lucid dreams are OBE’s. If you have a very vivid dream which feels “more real than real”, it is likely an OBE. 3. One must keep up the exercise in the first step for several weeks. If one is persistent, one will have success. However, for most people, they give up due to either fear or discouragement. I was rabid about having them. I would not give up, as I was very attracted to the whole concept. I had my first OBE after 3 weeks of the exercise above.

I recall finding Journeys Out of the Body fascinating and went into vivid details on how to have an OOBE and what it was like. I recall that it got a little scary at times, but it was also very intriguing (especially where he astrally visited a parallel world with different technology). I've heard Far Journeys is even better but I haven't read it (but I'm planning to). Btw, these books should be easy to get from your library (ask the reference librarian about ILL, or Inter Library Loan, if they don't have it, and btw, reference librarians tend to be very open minded about books ordered via ILL and often get so many requests even in some small towns that they often don't spare a thought to what's being requested, so don't be shy). Obviously, you should check the Library Catalog (or OPAC) before making a request, because asking to ILL a book the library has IS something they tend to cluck their tongues at. IP: Logged |

I don't really want to have one--I don't feel comfortable with that--but I am still curious as to what it's like, just for the sake of knowing. Thanks for the info! Next time I go to my library, I'll have to look into that . IP: Logged |
