Disclaimer: I only watched to 9:00 before I gave up on it, bored.

A lot of Christians like to pretend otherwise, but their own religion, and even the Hebrews in the Bible, change a lot as they mix with others (for example, you can thank pagans and heathens that we celebrate Christmas at all with tree, yule log, Santa, etc, and similar for Easter eggs, that is to say holidays celebrated by many Christians are days of idolatry, at least if his reasoning is applied consistently, though I'm aware a few denominations like the Seventh Day Adventists and Jehovah's Witnesses would agree). One big example is how in the Bible Satan is more of a servant of God until after Hebrew captivity by the Babylonians where they picked up on Zoroastrianism which influenced them and thus Christianity and Islam, including where the Devil became something of an anti-God who now opposed God rather than served God (we owe the Babylonians for part of astrology as well, and there's reason to believe the Magi that visited Jesus were of that religion).

And furthermore he acts as if the Bible is completely true when it's entirely possible that those whom the Holy Spirit filled simply had their kundalini awakened and they went insane from it (lots of schizos talk in tongues) with their gibbering and deluded view being the result.

On a more serious note Christianity has also manifested in dark and demonic ways as well as insanity in general, such as mothers who drown or burn their children to death to save their souls for God because that's how they felt the Holy Spirit moved them, and I'm convinced psychosis is distressingly common among Christians given things like the Satanic Panics and its echo in the hysteria over Harry Potter. I know some Baptists have noted that Pentecostals thrashing around with the supposed Holy Spirit are acting demon possessed (where I grew up Baptists and Pentecostals looked down on each other at best and hated each other at worst). Certain cult leaders, including Jim Jones (known for prophetic statements, healing people of cancer, etc), were said to manifest miracles and the vast majority of their converts came from Christian denominations (and considered themselves Christian).

Ultimately, at least from what I watched, he takes an entirely arbitrary view and wasn't the least bit convincing from what I saw because he chooses what to look at (and what NOT to look at) very selectively to come up with the conclusion he wanted from the beginning. Note also he emphasized "TRUE" in describing experiences with God so that he dismisses those who experienced anything detrimental with God and Christianity, which is essentially a no true Scotsman fallacy in that he's excluding those experiences by saying they weren't "true experiences of God" rather than admitting his beliefs show the same results (good and bad) of other religions and spiritual practices. IOW, he says the negative experiences count only when he wants them to and I'm not going to let him get away with that.

There's also a difference between traditional Hinduism and new age spirituality, too. Frankly, I'm amazed at how many new agers can stand life in India (out of those who go, though I suspect those who go have a lot of money and therefore see only a select view of it without its abuse and horrors and naively believe what tiny bit they see constitutes everyday life in India).

Anyway, those are my immediate thoughts after having sat through the first 8 minutes.

It's kind of interesting. A lot of Christians get mad at people who say "Happy Holidays" or "Season's Greetings" (well, write that; people don't usually that last one too much), or people who write "X-Mas" for the reason that it takes God out of it (though it's kind of funny with "X-Mas" because the "X" is an abbreviation for Christ, but I digress). They complain about no school prayer--again, taking the God out of things. Yet yoga just as exercise is perfectly acceptable to a lot of people, without the spiritual side (those that I know who've done it have only done it for exercise). To be fair, I don't know how many people in the West know that yoga has a spiritual element--or that it can. I think that many who do it who aren't from the East probably just see it as exercise and are probably most familiar with that side of it.

I'm on the fence about it and want to think about it a little more. Interesting topic!

Moreover, a lot of Christians (at least, mainstream Protestants) see Seventh-Day Adventists and Jehovah's Witnesses as completely nuts. In all honesty, I can be guilty of that myself. However, in all fairness, you may have an interesting point.

Personally, idolatry is something that I find complicated. I honestly don't feel like a lot of people intentionally set out to do it. I think that a lot of traditions have really lost their meaning and are done just because they've always been done, or else they have taken on different meanings. And, too, a lot of modern Christians enjoy both the sacred holiday traditions/sacred aspects as well as the secular ones. Sometimes, they can overlap or be mixed together.

You've given me something to think about.

Biblical interpretations are also highly complicated. Not every denomination takes the Bible completely literally. In my denomination, we do not take all of it literally. We take more of what's called a "contextual approach". There is not just one way to read or approach scripture--people of differing denominations do not agree on this issue.

As for speaking in tongues, I'm on the fence. I do believe that some people who do it or claim to could be mentally ill or that there could be another explanation. Some people really do fake it. However, I do believe that some people might genuinely be inspired. From what I've experienced seeing it in others, it doesn't have to be words, or recognizable language. It could be a sound. A syllable. It's not always like how you see it in the movies. Again, though, I'm on the fence about it. If someone claimed to do it, I'd take it with a grain of salt until other explanations were ruled out; I'd also have to know the person enough to get an intuitive feeling as to their sincerity and honesty about it. It does make me a bit uncomfortable, to be honest. I tend to be more of an 'old school' person when it comes to worship practices (incense, organ, bells, stained glass windows, vestments, etc.), even though I'm fairly liberal, so it's something that unnerves me a bit, at this point. That said, though, I don't think that every person to whom this happens is necessarily crazy or a liar/fraud. Many, yes. But not all.

That actually reminded me a lot of the Andrea Yates case. For those unfamiliar, she drowned her children and was mentally ill with postpartum depression or psychosis, maybe both. However, I'm wondering if her religious beliefs caused it, or else if they didn't cause it, but if they just manifested that way, if that makes sense. That is, she may have ended up mentally ill after childbirth even if she wasn't Christian, but her illnesses showed up in the form of something recognizable to her. It's an interesting question.

IOW, he says the negative experiences count only when he wants them to and I'm not going to let him get away with that.

another interesting point: can someone who considers God good still have negative experiences with God sometimes?

Honestly, I'd say yes. People in the Psalms vented to God fairly often. People that I've known have had anger at God or frustration with God, including me.

I don't think that being angry at God or upset with God or having a negative experience means that you necessarily love God less. As with any relationship, you're bound to have difficulties at times. The idea that those negative experiences with God "don't count" annoys me because I feel like they're dishonest. And, as I'm learning, sometimes conflict can actually bring you closer. It forces you to face the problems between you and to either work on them or walk away; working on them, while painful, can create a stronger bond sometimes, though not always. Saying that a negative experience with God "didn't happen", to me, pushes under the rug something important that you could be learning.

I agree so much. I feel the same way about people my age who are really into other cultures as well. While it's good to see what other cultures offer, you have to take the dark side along with it and acknowledge it. You don't have to dwell on it, but pretending otherwise isn't really honest. I think that sometimes, too, in the interest of being 'inclusive' or 'celebrating' other cultures, it becomes a bit taboo to criticize or point out things that aren't so great in that culture, which leads to a lot of (a) imbalance and (b) incorrect beliefs/unrealistic ideas about other cultures, which isn't really helpful.

I do 2 hours of Kundalini yoga a day--usually. You have to find your own way, as Christian. There is a lot of drivel out there.

I just had a person get all mad that I put a political picture on the FB page for my website with a swear word on it.

I told her I am an "out of the box" Christian. If someone is looking for a perfect Barbie doll, they can find someone else.

Don't let the door hit ya, where the good Lord split ya

Bwahahah

Far from perfect am I.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PE5f561Y1x4

Did you hear the distant cry
Calling me back to my sin
Like the one you knew before
Calling me back once again

I nearly, I nearly lost you there
And it's taken us somewhere
I nearly lost you there
Let's try to sleep now

Drag me far enough to know
I'm blind every mile that you burn
There's a rider that's fallen and
It's clear there's no time to return

I nearly, I nearly lost you there
And it's taken us somewhere
I nearly lost you there
Well let's try to sleep now

Did you hear the distant lie
Calling me back to my sin
Like the one you knew before
Calling me back once again

I nearly, I nearly lost you there
And it's taken us somewhere
I nearly lost you there
Well let's try to sleep now
I nearly lost you there
I nearly lost you
I nearly lost you there
I nearly lost you there
I nearly lost you there
Oh yeah, nearly lost you there

I have never chanted.
I have never done crazy things with my head like kundalini videos on youtube.

I remember I am a westerner, like alan watts said. I can take on the wisdom they have to share but I do not dress or try to act like them (unless its to gain an insight to something I do not understand in full range), it's not mine.

@ MBlake. Hi there! How r u? Its nice to see your around.

Actually, yoga is a much misunderstood term. So, if someone says that certain ppl shouldn't do it we have to see whether that person has got what yoga is, in the first place. For that we ourselves have to be clear on what yoga is.

You know, prolly hard for them to understand since there is no building to show up to multiple times a week for social gossip and comparisons. No money to pay either so it's discarded, no profits eh?

No business connects, jobs etc.

It all boils down to economics in the end it seems, Ami.

PS, those youtube videos are semi amusing due to them freaking out about demons, alex jones does that sometimes also.. makes me smile & frown at the same time.

..I wonder if times were different, how many people they would have hung up on crosses or stoned to death.. then they go on about DEMONS in the world.. coming from southern baptist I remember how much they wanted to hang up gay people. We payed money to a building to listen to a old grey haired man gay bash almost every week.. if it wasnt that it was something else.

People in the pews saying "SAY IT PREACHER! YES! YES!"

Organized, so much that it shocked me way out of the frame of thought at an early age. Hard for me to accept people older than me with more experience in this world who go on with it like this.

I guess, it is what it is eh?

Well Mblake
I am forced to be an out of the box Christian. Being an astrologer and psychic makes me out of the box, right there.

Being psychic is just a gift of the Holy Spirit, of which there are many. The star that led the wise men to Jesus was a chart.

I really do not like to be an iconoclast. I really do not like to argue. I am a Libra ASC. However, I think God wants to reach more people, as the world, as we know it, is drawing to an end.

He has put me in this rather strange position

Travel a few too many years back, you would be stoned or hanged for it, tortured or burned alive in the name of HOLY SPIRIT.

Cause you are a demon eh? (sarcasm)

Mirror Mirror on the wall.

People are demons if they wanna be, in a religion or not.

This guy killed thousands, I am sure he is relaxing with baby jesus on a fluffy cloud in the sky.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom%C3%A1s_de_Torquemada

Tomás de Torquemada, O.P. (1420 – September 16, 1498) was a fifteenth-century Spanish Dominican friar and the first Grand Inquisitor in Spain's movement to restore Christianity among its populace in the late fifteenth century. As well as being the Grand Inquisitor, Torquemada was also the confessor to Isabella I of Castile. He is notorious for his zealous campaign against the crypto-Jews and crypto-Muslims of Spain. He was one of the chief supporters of the Alhambra Decree, which expelled the Jews from Spain in 1492. About 2,000 people were burned at the stake by the Spanish Inquisition between 1480 and 1530. In modern times, his name has become synonymous with the Christian Inquisition’s horror, religious bigotry, and cruel fanaticism.

-Don't forget about the cathars etc.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catharism

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inquisition

The Inquisition, Inquisitio Haereticae Pravitatis (inquiry on heretical perversity), was a group of decentralized institutions within the justice system of the Roman Catholic Church whose aim was to "fight against heretics". It started in 12th century France to persecute heresy, and was later expanded to other European countries. Inquisition practices were used also on offences against canon law other than heresy.

Politics and Economics.

Ami, is it true that humans can't live in peace without harming each other.. for whatever belief? Is that why money is so important? it keeps us held together and somewhat organized?

I say universe but no matter.

Our bodies come from nature, dirt.

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.

Mother nature will kill you any chance she gets, maybe that's why people do it.

She is ruthless. We circumvented her with science and medicine or else black plagues would be more common I imagine.

She likes to thin the herd, like in the animal kingdom.

Humans do not like what they come from? Is that why we seek to change it?

In the ant kingdom, she will release killer fungi to lower the number.

On a side note: I was accused of having restrictive thinking not too long ago, can only shake my head and ignore it.

PS. Ami I thought you said you were scorp ASC, not libra?

PS. Choosing nature was easy because it's a reality and people MUST have something to blame or they blame each other.

Pointy fingers

I am a Libra ASC from my birth certificate and my mother. One guy told me I was a Scorpio ASC when I first got into Astrology. He said I looked like one and he changed my chart. I believed him as some things made sense like a full 8th House and Neptune in the 12th.
However, now I know enough to question what he said and I think I am my original chart lol
