"Hospitality is: The divine enablement to share with others our home, our lives, our personal space and resources without communicating a need for performance or an expectation of return. Let me comment about that. That hospitality includes sharing our home, lives, personal space and resources such as a bed, or food or time, that should be obvious. But one of the first characteristics of good hospitality is that it does not communicate a need for performance. By that is meant that the person we welcome into our home does not have to be a great guest, a great conversationalist, the life of a party. Some times we invite people over because they can perform socially very well. They have class. They have good character. They are intelligent. They are attractive. But if we invite people over with the subtle motivations of socializing in an upwardly mobile way, or for the purposes of personal entertainment and gain, we are expecting from them some performance. Good hospitality accepts people into our home no matter what their social skills are, no matter what their conversational skills are. Regardless of their performance, they are still very welcome. Secondly, the good practice of hospitality does not include an expectation of return. To be hospitable does not include expecting to get invited back to their place, their party, supper at their house. Rather hospitality, like all acts of true love, are gifts that are given without an expectation of return." I think Hospitality is a very underrated, and unspoken about quality, especially during the Holiday Season. Taking people into ones home shows a concern for them, and imo, shows the nature of Christ as he did say "Foxes have holes, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head" Hospitality does not invoke a public awe that prophetical announcements does, it does however actually show Love instead of merely talking about it. Easily accomplished, may I suggest we all be more open to showing Hospitality? IP: Logged |

You are right about that. Padre. I think I have the gift of discernment and the gift of prophecy. People can get one or several but they are gifts, so you really can't have one you don't have.
Just don't come over

I am currently spending some very much needed time alone in a 19th century Victorian bed and brekfast in my homeland, some 1200 miles from my current home...I am the only guest in the house now but the owner and I hit it off and we have a lot in common. Her hospitality is her job, but I am an exception for her as there is nobody else here. She has been incredible! She even leaves me alone in this giant home to roam and explore all to myself! Hospitality for sure!!!! IP: Logged |

Hebrews 13:12Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. ------------------ We need to listen to our own song, and share it with others, but not force it on them. Our songs are different. They should be in harmony with each other. ~ Mattie Stepanek IP: Logged |

Wonderful! From my pov, the more practical gifts of the Spirit is what is needed atm: Charity Joy Peace Patience Benignity Goodness Long-suffering (patient suffering over an extended period) Mildness Faith Modesty Continency Chastity 4 There are different kinds of gifts. But they are all given by the same Spirit. 5 There are different ways to serve. But they all come from the same Lord. 6 There are different ways to work. But the same God makes it possible for all of us to have all those different things. Now there could be a discussion about "Gifts" v "Fruit", I have no time for such a trifle. IP: Logged |
