I was talking with a friend of mine, and he told me about a time when he flirting with an official conversion. He was interested in Catholicism, in no small part because it seems to make a large amount of room for doubt. He was talking with a priest, and he asked, "What about other beliefs? Where do they fall?" The priest replied, "I believe that God reaches to find people where they are, as long as they're searching." "So, like many different paths?" "Yes - God's at the top of the mountain and there are many different paths. Some are more winding than others, but the important thing is that they get you there." "I'll chose to worship the mountain, then, rather than one of the paths." What do you all think? ------------------ If I've included this sig, it's because I'm posting from a mobile device. if god always brings people to him it wont matter if you worship a path or the mountain since you will always reach the top IP: Logged |

mirage, imo it's not about worshiping, it's about accepting and try to harmonize with it. After this everything comes natural.

Mockingbird, my Teacher told us a similar story. The route from New York to Los Anges is a route to God. Some take the difficult mountian path, some fly, some walk the highways and some wander in the fields and deserts but we all arrive. Some sooner than others but with the promise of an arrival for all who make the trip Seeking with their Hearts. ------------------ Christian, Jew, Muslim, Shaman, Zoroastrian, stone, ground, mountain, river, each has a secret way of being with the Mystery, unique and not to be judged. I've known lots of people who worship the path. People who will treat someone badly because of a doctrinal dispute, as in, "If you take another path, you are obviously not headed to the top of the mountain where God is, so you must be seeking a false god. I wash my hands of you."Worshipping the mountain? I can't make sense of why one would do that. Does your friend just mean that he respects all possible approaches to God? I guess some people think of God as being whatever we make of him/her/it. God is the process of realizing God. (?) IP: Logged |

From other conversations I've had with him, I think that he sees the mountain more as God (rather than only the top being God).Like, God is/can be found at once in the Mountain (existence/our experience), our paths (our processes of finding/understanding God), and the top (our conception of God). If so, I think I agree with him. I'd have to bring it up again to clarify, though. ------------------ If I've included this sig, it's because I'm posting from a mobile device.
