Neutral here.

I have Jewish friends, but none are devout, not even the one to convert (maybe he was when he did but not by the time I knew him).

were they raised traditional?
most of the ones who are raised in semi secular household are rarely devout.
as to the convert, was he reform, con or orthodox?

it is a very ritualistic tradition...the hebrew language is beautiful
and, the religion seems more concerned with the here and now.

I believe all my Jewish friends were fairly secular. I've emailed the guy who converted (as he's now living on the other side of the country) and asked, it may take a few days for him to get back to me.

thanks
maybe he converted in order to marry someone who is jewish?
many people who convert do it for someone else, and not because they truly want to be jewish, hence their lack of personal devotion....
