I'm curious about this, anyone know how many convert because of someone knocking on the door early in the morning?

I know this just annoys a lot of people, and many already feel part of a religion so don't need a new one. If they were interested then they'd go looking into it themselves, or at the very least it would be introduced to them by someone they were close to rather than strangers. Yet all the same, solicitors continue, so presumably it gains converts.

Anyone every converted in such a way or gained converts? (I know some churches send children out to do it who may have no choice in the matter, especially if the church wants to shake people down for money at the same time, so maybe someone here was once such a child.)

The best I can figure it is they assume the people already accept the Bible as the Word of God and hope to get them to "debate" it, and as most people have a very superficial knowledge of the Bible (while also believing in it very passionately) then the solicitors find it easy to be prepared and then say, "See, this is what the Bible says, and this is what it means." And as one doesn't question God/Bible then they have them. But against people who don't already accept the Bible as the word of God then they don't stand a chance.

And what about advertisements? I keep seeing ads for the Mormons (who also go door to door in some places). Why would someone see an ad and decide to call them up for more info?

Best I can figure it is they're trying to get the sheep who wandered off back into their flock. Surely it doesn't work on anyone else. Or does it (and if so, why)?

Some people like attention.

Then, maybe they are at a low point and it helps them.

For me, it's annoying as heck.

Not real big on company. This is My Inner Sanctum.

And another thing.

If the very name of your Church violates one of your basic Ten Commandments, what sort of message are you really sending?

But each to his own.

There are many, many Paths to the Top of that Mountain.

Interesting idea! New converts almost always get a lot of attention, they'd stay as long as it continued, then when the attention dried up they'd be in the market for a new church to join where they're all new again...and the ads and door to door solicitors would find it all too easy to rope them in (for a little while).

Ah well, better than getting pregnant or committing crimes for attention!

Certain groups make the people go door to door. It is not a choice.

No, I meant that some people are lonely.

They want someone to talk to. So, that gets a foot in their door.

That's a sad thought, converting to a religion because that's the only way you'll have any friends...or anyone to talk to at all.

Wasn't trying to bring you down, Pixie.

Just answering the question...

Hey, that link yesterday was really cool.

I don't know if you remember that book I mentioned to you on the Elohim Thread?

There was a Circle she started near me!

Well, not too far...

I appreciate your thoughts, even when I guess wrong on what you're trying to say, as it helps me think of possibilities I haven't considered before. Not all truth is pretty and I'm okay with that. My Scorpio Jupiter just wants to understand...and if I can use it in my stories then so much the better.

I met two Mormons before and hung out with them some before they transferred. They were great people. And I also had a Mormon rommmate.

Yeah, I actually married into that religion.

It was a Moral Decision when I left.

I thought of one of my Best Friends; she and her Girlfriend had outlasted my Husband and I in Marriage.

I couldn't agree with their stand.

Many, many things I did there I loved and agreed with.

Had a Wonderful Vibration.
