I thought the point of the "Know Two Are Alike" forum was to provide a place where each knowflake can start 1 thread, and provide background, or journaling, about him/herself. But people are starting multiple threads there, which means that the forum is being used for purposes other than those for which it was intended, and that, eventually, it will be more difficult to find the thread you are looking for on a particular knowflake, because it will be buried under other, off-topic, threads. Not only will it be difficult to find the thread on a given knowflake, but, when people start multiple threads, you have to open them to see which one is THE get-to-know-you thread by that knowflake; so the people who are not observing the rules are thwarting themselves, as well as the rest of us. Many fantastic ideas for a new forum were passed over for the sake of instituting this one, so I think its worth remaining faithful to it. I thought the idea (all credit and praise be to Melody for thinking of it, and Randall for making it happen) was brilliant. Did I misunderstand the purpose of this new forum, or did some other people?

Right on, Steve!
I was wondering about that myself,
but I was too timid and complacent to say anything.

HSC - Is that directed at me because I am the only one with more than one thread there? other than 26T who has 2.

1. One is my Blog
2. One was moved by a mod there from astrology. (asking people to post their pic with their charts)
3. The other was so that people can post miscellaneous things in one thread instead of multiple ones. I called it Lindaland FAQ because people were posting questions about how to post charts at the new forum.

Awww gee, who knew forums needed to work within the framework of HSC's approval.

Let me write that down.

hehe I just gave up... if "THE RULES" aren't clearly stated anarchy will reign. Also, I don't think there is a way to only "allow" one thread per person.

Unmoved, it's not about your FAQ. The original idea had to do with creating something of a "profile" and "home base" that others could reference since there are so many of us here and it is easy to forget who we are talking to from time to time... at least for those of us heavily influenced by air signs.
It was also supposed to be a place where people could mention if they were male or female and list whatever astrological or personal/family information they chose to share... and a place for each of us to list how Linda became such an important part of our lives and our spiritual journey. Your all-in-one question thread is a lot better than a bunch of threads started with single questions. Ideally, a thread like the FAQ would be a "sticky" at the top explaining that all questions should be asked right there in that thread. But, you know... the best laid plans...

Bilbo's poem thread is the only one I thought should be moved to YWAA, or incorporated into Bilbo's main thread.
BTW...
Bilbo!

PS.

I do not believe this site has a way to do stickies.

Good points well made. Whoppy, in fairness to Steve he was just mulling over questions in a communal way rather than laying down any rules. The Virgo in me likes a bit of tidy and he's right. Young man I shall flodulate you henceforth with a brace of kippers. Or summat like that. Assume the position!

Hey Lexx, good time out hun?

I'm not proposing anything new here, or any idea of my own, jwhop.
I'm proposing we keep to the plan that Randall approved in the first place.

Let's remain faithful to the original idea of the forum, which is that each knowflake gets just 1 thread, and they can do whatever the heck they want with it. If they want to post poetry, thats fine, but bilbo, for instance, started a thread for his poetry in addition to his "Hello" thread; in his defense, he is a newbie and was not present when the outline for this new forum was discussed. Similar multiples were posted by Unmoved and 26Taurus. Right now, its certainly not a chore to find the personal get-to-know-you thread for a given knowflake, but, as more knowflakes post, it will get more difficult, particularly if there are multiple threads being started by various knowflakes. "A stitch in time saves nine." Also, I think it is only fair to remain faithful to the original idea for the forum, since there were dozens of other great ideas that did not get this chance. Its as if we were to carefully choose a candidate only to find that candidate substituted at the last minute by a look-alike. :/

Underneath the description for "Know Two Are Alike", it ought to read, "Every knowflake is invited to post just one thread with the purpose of introducing and expressing themselves", so there is no confusion about what the intention of this new forum has been from the start. Informative threads on how to post charts and pics are invaluable, but they belong in Lindaland Central, where several of them have already been posted, and may be bumped when appropriate, or merely linked to here on people's threads. Lindaland FAQs is another good idea. Maybe the best thing would be to have a forum specifically for newbies, with information like this readily accessible, -- but I guess there is some agreement as to the number of forums (23?). 26T's thread congratulating SunChild on her modship could have been posted in Lindaland Central. In any case, it has served its purpose and, with all due respect, ought to be deleted from this forum. Once the rules for this new forum are clearly stated on the main Lindaland page, this thread too ought to be deleted.

Melody,

Thanks, wheels!
I'm "presenting".
Lay into me!

These forums were created to be dynamic places where members could share ideas, concepts and interests HSC.

Now, let's look at your idea of limiting everyone to one thread here.

Not everyone, every member wants to share their birth chart, their pictures and details about their lives. In very short order, under the one thread rule you wish to promote, this forum goes stagnant when everything has been said on those subjects and would need to rely on new members posting their details.

Now HSC, Randall isn't complaining so why are you?

Life is about individual choices HSC. America is about individual choices as much as that concept disgusts you.

Last time I looked no one appointed you forum patrolman/patrolwoman just as we refused to appoint you our conscience.

I like this forum and I've read most of what's been posted. I'm in no way offended by members enjoying this forum in ways they choose.

Now HSC, a question. Since the "culprits" you saw violating your proposed rule were posting here; why did you see fit to run to Lindaland Central to voice your compliant?

All I can say on this subject is Melody's reiteration of what the original concept was:
quote:
The original idea had to do with creating something of a "profile" and "home base" that others could reference since there are so many of us here

The idea made it distinct from the other forums. Correct me if I have also misunderstood.

Guys I would do anything to avoid an argument on this forum. It's a little haven of tranquility and I'd like to keep it that way. Please

It was my idea and everyone better bend to my will or heads will roll!!!!!!!!!!! (You know outspoken I am about that sort of thing, right? right?) :^D ;^)

In very short order, under the one thread rule you wish to promote, this forum goes stagnant when everything has been said on those subjects and would need to rely on new members posting their details.

That's why he said each of us would have one thread to "express" ourselves. Originally, I suggested that each person could start thread with a little information (whatever each person chose to share) and info on how Linda became special to each of us/ how we found this wonderful place etc, (I was so surprised to find out you were interested in astrology and knew a thing or two about Linda when I saw a post of yours in the Astrology forum once for instance) and then each person could use each thread however it pleased them to promote their pet philosophy etc and they could let people know in the intro whether they would welcome commentary, company or debate regarding their words etc.

Like: Jolly Jwhops Political Pontificating: No Leftist NutJobs Allowed!

or something to that effect :^D ;^) hehe

You could explain and post a weekly blog type thing that summarizes the goings on in the world from your point of view or whatever to inform those who wanted to learn from you, for example. Or whatever, you know?

Others might choose to express themselves in different ways but I think the most important thing people are forgetting at this moment (due to the unclear instructions) is that

You all should have a fabulously interesting heading to your thread!!!!!!!!
instead of just "Hi, it's me" or whatever. That makes it harder for people to find the thread/person. So, I invite everyone who accidentally posted a thread like that to start a new one with a fabo name (and ask the mod's to delete the old "hi I'm new" thread) if it pleases them. Just ask for the delete at the bottom of the thread you wish to delete, as Pixie did on her double thread glitch.

It also becomes a way people can "visit" you, rather than starting a thread with your name or something to get your attention.

It's a good game, yes? And everyone is invited to play.

See, now this is where you are supposed to say: "WOW! Great idea, Mel! I've always known how intelligent you are since you have been astute enough to observe my own scintillating intellect, but I never knew how downright CREATIVE you were! How fabulous, what a fabulous addition to LindaLand! I like you so much that it's hard to hate HSC as vehemently as I did before because clearly, you have excellent taste in people so he can't really be THAT bad..."

We aren't fighting with you J, just giggling like silly girls. Just roll your eyes good natured-ly, smile, and move on whatever more important and less silly business you might have on your agenda. You are loved, I am sure.

I am also sure the girls didn't previously hate HSC vehemently, and surely did not just recently change their minds.

Gosh, they are witty though, aren't they? So cheerful and silly. They make me smile.

I'm beginning to feel the LL Love again.

And thanks for getting the forum back to what I always hoped it would be, HSC. I would have never said anything. You are so brave.

Melody may have come up with the idea for the forum, but I came up with the name! So LOL!

I think it's Randall who makes the rules.

Honestly, I still dont see what the big deal or issue is. I found it odd that it was even brought up. Where does it say that we each can only start ONE thread only? If other threads are made here with the purpous of helping us all get to know each other better then to me, that falls in line with what the forum is about. Right?
I dont get it. We can learn more about each other through threads other than introduction threads, right?

If people want to find someone's personal introduction thread, blog or whatever, they can go down through the list of posters names instead of going by titles of threads. That is how I would search it anyway.

What are we going to do after a few years go by and there are multiple pages to sort through?

Sorry, but I think this is a silly thing to complain about.

Introduce yourself to the rest of the Knowflakes and tell us as much about yourself as you wish to share,

I think the "Introduce yourself" part applies more to (but not ONLY to) newbies.

"Tell us as much about yourself as you wish to share" is a nice way for other older members to express and share info about themselves with others even though they may have been here for awhile and many of us already know most of this information about them. This gives the newbies an opportunity to get to know some of the members here as well.

"Tell us as much about yourself as much as you wish to share"

I think 99% of the threads in this forum fall into those guidelines.

Except maybe bilbo's poem, but he was new and hadnt discovered the poetry forum yet. All one has to do is move the thread.

My Inner Child thread helps us get to know each other in a fun way. Not everyone wishes to start a thread with their name on it all about them for whatever reasons and it's nice for them to have some places to join in and maybe share some little known facts about themselves.
