On a Faded VioletThe odour from the flower is gone which like thy kisses breathed on me; The colour from the flower is brown which glowed of thee and only thee! A shrivelled, lifeless, vacant form, it lies on my abandoned breast; And mocks the heart, which yet is warm with cold and silent rot. I weep-my tears revive it not; I sigh-it breaths no more on me: its mute and uncomplaining lot Is such as mine should be. ~SHELLEY~ IP: Logged |

Shelley is incredibly romantic. Hard to believe it's the same guy who could write a hard-hitting tract on atheism too :PHere's one of my recent favourites. "When I am dead and over me bright April Shakes out her rain-drenched hair, Tho' you should lean above me broken-hearted, I shall not care. I shall have peace, as leafy trees are peaceful When rain bends down the bough, And I shall be more silent and cold-hearted Than you are now." - Sara Teasdale ------------------ for whatever we lose (like a you or a me) it's always ourselves we find in the sea IP: Logged |
