Hey guys, I don't know if you have been following Randall's thread, "Welcome To The New Baby Forum!" In it, myself, future_uncertain, and a few others were discussing donating some legal tender (money lol) to help Randall purchase some new UBB software.

I just checked the UBB website and the cost are broken down like this:

My question is this. If Randall were to allow us to donate to him for the purchase of the new UBB forum software, would you fellow knowflakes be willing to donate some money to help purchase one of those licenses?

I say we start out with the Silver Liscense for $499. What do you guys think?

I would suggest that if Randall accepts this, he set up the paypal account so that only he has the password and login information.

I'm only upgrading as a last ditch effort if there is no other choice. If we upgrade, we convert to their default smilies, and all the Posts we currently have would be filled with broken links. For now, I think the second Forum idea will work. *crosses fngers*

It should be only done as last ditch effort,

because all the old pages from the old astrolgy pages may be lost, even if randel
saves and backs up the cached pages from the old astrolgy site and rebuilds the old links.

Someone is going to have to do all that work, page by page, assuming that Lindaland
has more then 100+ pages.

It is no fun, I know what its like I'm employed updating old goverment sites.
Doing the same thing.

I'd be more of fan of adding one more server.

This breaks down to 4 dollar donation/10 dollar donation/15 dollar donation. Assuming there are 50 Active memners. I wish it didnt have 2 b at christmas..Id like to donate 15. But I can donate 4 for sure!

Randell already has to much work on his hands.

I'm not a fan of broken links, I was almost taught it was a "sin" for a website.

What thats expected if you work with vary fixed people.

I'm just concerned about the old pages and how they will be archived and if they are accesible.

Randall has the say. If he says yes he wouldn't mind doing it, I'll donate. But it's up to him. My idea was to close this forum and just leave it as a viewable archive and put it as a sticky in the new forum. I'm just appreciative of this site and wanted to give back, that is all.

i like the website's format. i dont think its a good idea to change it. i can deal with the issues, no problem.. this place is different, i hate the standard ubb formats, I say leave LL the way it is.

hi randall, i think u should give a one month notice to all members so that people stop making threads by the end of it and then archive all threads in all forums and then make new upgraded forums. this way we can have all the new stuff and we can refer back to the old one and since we have 1 month (or say 1 week) notice we can stop making new threads for a while so that most conversations arent broken in between. what say?

I agree with writesomething. I love the format. It's the best format that I've come across - of any astro site and any website in general. I love it.

I think setting up Astro 2 is a practical solution. We have best of both worlds - all the threads are maintained for reference and for future contribution in the original Astro Form. And the new forum for new threads. It works.
