My moon (Leo) is in the first house. Would this make the effect of my moon stronger, since its in my house of self?

I also read somewhere that when you have a Cancer rising, it makes your moon more importent in your chart or something because Cancer is ruled by the moon ... Is this right?

Moon in the first house makes the personality sensitive, intuitive, and receptive with strong feelings and imagination.
The self can express emotions powerfully, is social and concerned with public life although timid and shy. One's personality may change in response to others.

http://www.san.beck.org/Astro-Moon.html

From Astrology-Numerology:

~ The Moon in your first house suggests that your feelings are hypersensitive and play a significant role in the definition of your personality. This is a personality that is very malleable. You make easy and quick adjustments to the demands of the moment. It's hard for you to be sure just what to do, because you are continuously in a restless state. It's also hard for you to make long-range plans because of the fluctuations in feelings. Frequent mood changes mark your personality. If you are not busy revising your goals and objectives, you are probably procrastinating and unsure about what you want to do and where you want to go. You are both sensitive and responsive to public opinion, so you are easily influenced by those around you.

there's a longer interpretation here:

I have an Aqua Moon in my first house. I know I've also read that the intelligence may fluxuate, that the person is frequently restless (but less so if the moon is in a fixed sign),
that its a good placement for writers, and, that, as with all first house planets, the house with the sign it rules (in this case, Cancer) on the cusp will be important. Cancer's on my 7th.

That is so true, that the moon is more potent is there is any Cancer influences in your chart! I know Someone with Virgo Moon, which is in the first house, she act very Moon-like, because she also has Cancer Venus, and the Moon is conjunct her Asc. Amber24, If your Moon is conjunct your Asc. then the Moon is dominant in your chart!

I have moon in cap in the first house. It does make me sensitive to the needs of others, but not sensitive as a person (I don't get hurt easily). I can anticipate the needs of others and I enjoy taking care of others. I tend to "mother" my friends and make sure they're all well fed. However, I can become extremely cruel towards those who betray me.

I don't understand why a Leo Moon in the 1st house (the house of Aries and Aries-type things) would GENERALLY redouble someone's sensitivity.

I understand how being a Cancer rising might, in this case.

If your 1st house Moon is conjunct your ascendent, it intensifies the force of that sign in your chart, not the force of Cancer (unless the moon is in cancer.) But it sounds like your Moon and Rising are in different signs?

But in general, a Moon in the 1st house means that your emotional life (Moon) is very much tied to your First House issues (the self, body, assertion of personality.) Just like a Moon in the 7th house would mean your emotional life (Moon) was very tied to your 7th house issues (partnerships), or 5th house (fun), or 3rd house (communication)...and so on for every house placement.

I don't think a Moon in the 1st/Aries house would make you any more Cancerian than a Moon in any of the other houses other than the 4th, unless your Moon was in Cancer.

A Cap Rising/Cap Moon in the 1st, for example, would just be very Goaty in the way that he/she expressed her personality, came across in a first impression, and started new things, as well as in his/her emotional expressions.

"The moon rules cancer its right at home when its there"

Yeah, but her Moon is in LEO, right? I don't see how that would make her more Cancerian.

And the 1st house is Aries-an, not Cancerian.

In this particular case, she'd be Cancerian to the same degree as any Cancer rising, but no more than that, with a Leo moon.

If Cancer rising makes the Moon more important in someone's chart (and by extension, Cap Rising makes Saturn more important, Scorp=Pluto, Pisces=Neptune and so on), wouldn't it just make her Leonine and 1st house emotional expression more prominent?

I agree to a degree with you, Lucia. I don't know about 'extra sensitive' and don't necessarily agree, but I think it makes the emotional reactions more prominent in accordance to what the moon sign is in.
I would think a moon in the first just makes it harder to hide feelings. Anything in the 1st is in plain view most of the time. So if the moon is in the first in Leo, it would make your emotional side of the Leonine pride more obvious, along with the generosity of Leo. And the emotional state might also have a powerful effect on how you view yourself, even physically.

I actually fully agree with you, MyVirgoMask.

What I'm disagreeing with is the idea that that placement would make her more CANCERIAN (beyond the Cancer rising, which is a separate issue.)

I totally think that with a first house moon, the particular qualities of the moon in whatever sign it's in are expressed in 1st house areas of life--the personality, body, etc.

It's this comment I'm disagreeing with: "Cancer moon, moon in the 1st house..All the same..The moon rules cancer its right at home when its there..Moon in the 1s house is a cancer trait/feel if you will.."

Cancer Moon, moon in the FOURTH house would be "all the same." The Moon is at home in Cancer, or the 4th house. It's NOT at home in Leo, or the 1st House (Aries.)

I've read for a few people with first house moons. As I described above, the first house placement means that they express the emotional qualities of their particular Moon sign in their personality very strongly...it comes across in first impressions, etc. If it's a Sag Moon, their SAG emotions will be a clear part of their personality...which does not make them more Cancerian.

I think it would make her more emotionally Leonine, rather than more Cancerian--and those are very different things.

Ok Amber...

Yes..If you are a Cancer or have Cancer rising...the moon's influence is heightened. Just like if you are a Libra...Venus becomes more important in your chart.

Obviously, the Moon is the 2nd or 3 rd most powerful influence in your chart ANYWAY. But the answer is YES...if you are a Cancer..or like yourself, have Cancer Rising...the sign your moon is in is felt even more than a non-cancer/cancer rising pwerson. The reason? Well the moon dictates your behaviors when u become emotional.. When u are emotional..you will behave in the manner of the sign your is in. So..being a cancer/cancer rising person..you get emotional ALOT more often than other signs. This moon will color you an AWFUL lot.

Wow! So many replies, thank you everyone for your input! I haven't been on the computer for the past few days, so I'm just catching up, lol.

So the general opinion is that while my Cancer rising would give me Cancer traits (obviously), the fact that my moon is in the first house and cancer is ruled by the moon doesn't mean that one generally affeects the other. With my Leo moon in the first house, it would heighten the Leo-ness in my emotions ... ? Is that right?

Sorry, I'm still reading over everything thats been posted ... I would say though, I am very Leo and very, very pridful in my emotions.

Whenever you become moody or emotional...you will do so in a leo way. Becuase u have cancer rising..you are moody ALOT. So you will exibit Leo traits ALOT. More than someone who doesnt have Cancer rising. Becuase they dont get moody as much , so they dont exibit their moon sign traits as much.

I am extremely sensitive and my moon is in the first house in Gemini. I have often wondered what placements in my chart show the sensitivity. Sow what does it mean to have the Moon in Gemini in the first house with the ascendant?

Cancer Sun w/ Scorpio Moon in 1st.

I'm moody, but it tends to be different shades of the same mood. I.E. lately I've been homesick. I go from being sad homesick to angry that I left home homesick...

Cancer risings are supposed to be extra pretty. Vanessa Williams, Cindy Crawford, Angelina Jolie. Water ascendants are known to be magnetic.

Snow_Dream, a Scorpio Sun points to extreme sensitivity, even without looking at any of your other placements.

Moon Pixie, so does a Cancer Sun and/or Scorpio Moon, in any house.

I think it's very important to isolate the exact role of the house placement in and of itself...the first house has to do with your sense of "self", how you come across to others, your body and how you experience your body image, your independence (as opposed to the 7th house of one-on-one interdependence, in contrast to the 11th house of groups.)

I don't think a 1st house moon placement automatically equals extreme sensitivity, any more than having a moon (emotions) equals exteme sensitivity...and every human has a moon.

However, Cancer or Scorpio Sun, Moon, or Rising equals sensitivity. And then again, it all depends on how you define sensitivity. If you look at it a certain way, all twelve signs are sensitive. It's important not to conflate the influence of Cancer and/or Scorpio Sun, Moon or Rising signs with the general workings of the 1st house, or with 1st house moon placements in general.
