Okay, Bluemoon gave me this idea. What is your favorite house system and why.

Be sure to tell why!

Truly, I think it's a weird thing about astrology, but I think any house system works. My usual is placidius, only because I am familiar with it. I'd love to find a web site that does Koch- my favorite authour says its best for predicting events. I do use equal, but only when doing a solar chart and I think it is as accurate as any other.

Placidus.

Though I learnt using Equal House.

I don't really have a reason. But it seems to make more sense to have the 10th lead by the M.C, and unequal houses when the seasons are unequal.

As long as we get helpful results on a spiritual and psychological level (that aren't plucked out of the air), it's all good.

I've been using the Koch system lately, on Astro.com - you can choose from may house systems. The equal is also useful if your unsure about where a planet is located, for example if it is at the end of a house. I just discovered that my Neptune is actually in the 2nd house instead of the 1st house. The koch system helped me discover this because my 2nd house cusp is 10 degrees Capricorn and my Neptune is 8 degrees in Capricorn so obviously its far closer to the 2nd house, because my ascendant is 14 degrees Sagittarius.

But the Placidus is over used, and some astrologers prefer the Koch system, for example Stephen Arroyo...

Sun - Leo
Moon - Pisces
Ascendant - Sagittarius

I use placidus for psychological because I found it fits better but for horary I use equal
I will frequently check both to see if any planets move and if I know spmeone well enough I'll ask them about the planets that "move" to see which seems to be more accurate.

God, I can't stand Placidus lately, especially after using Koch and seeing my Mercury fall into the 5th which just explains so much romantically, creatively, etc... I kind of feel Placidus cheated me for years LOL.

I am torn between Koch and Equal at the moment. Equal changed my whole chart: Put Pluto in my 5th along with Mercury, and I lost my 6th house stellium, but I'm not really crying about it.
It moved my Saturn from the 3rd to the 2nd house, which might actually explain a lot financially since Mercury rules my 2nd and Saturn squares it - I always had a problem with money in the past, it was a major problem which felt really exaggerated. It makes more sense with Saturn in there, but I'm still not so sure.

My NN moved from the 9th to the 8th, and I don't know how I feel about that either.
My Jupiter is in the 9th instead of the 10th by Equal system which makes a LOT of sense because I seem to feel enormously lucky and expansive in regards to travel.

So, I'm not really sure which to choose, but I kind of disregard Placidus now and will just stick to Koch or Equal for awhile - at least with my own chart.

I have an "astrological" or theoretical problem with Koch houses, and this is their calculation.

Koch houses are calculated this way:

1. You take the degree of the midheaven at a certain time.

2. Then you go backwards in time, until the degree of the midheaven (at the time of your birth) becomes the ASC.

3. You cut the time into three parts, which give you the housecusps of 11th and 12th house.

This means that the housecusps 11 and 10th relate actually to a time BEFORE your birth.

Example:

My MC is on 05° Libra.

5° Libra is on the ASC at about 1 a.m. on my birthday. But that is 6 hours BEFORE my birth.

Now I would cut these 6 hours into 3 parts and calculate the ASC. So in my case the ASC for 3 a.m. would give me the housecusp of the 11th house.

But the thing is if we assume that the ASC is the exact moment we come into life, which separates Non-existence from Existence, then the ASC is also the beginning of the circle of houses. The exact degree of the rising, not a few hours before that or after that.

Placidus does a similiar calculation, but he starts from the rising degree and counts to the MC and then divides the time into three parts. We still can argue if that is okay, but at least in the Placidus system the ASC is really the rising degree and beginning at the moment of one`s birth.

Theoretically one of the equal systems make the most sense to me.
But still I have been working with Placidus most of the time.

Darkdreamer, thanks for explaning that. I wondered but hadn't found any info on what it was exactly. Now I have to admit, it doesn't sound right to me.

I use Placidus because it makes the most sense for me and my natal chart. Equal pushes my Moon to my 4th from 5th and my Sun and Mercury from my 9th to my 8th. Doesn't make as much sense.

Plus I live in the US where inercepted houses aren't really a problem.

Placidus for me too. I can see that it works for my natal - so using that logic, I use it for others. I understand each to their own though. It's like the different strands of astrology - find what works for you.

I use both Placidus and Equal. There really isn't much of a noticeable difference in my chart using either system. When doing a chart for someone who lives waaaaay north or waaaaaaaaaay south, I use Equal.

------------------
Virgo Asc 6˚& Mars 0˚
Gemini Sun 24˚
Libra Moon 14˚(conjunct Pluto 0˚ in 2nd house)
Gemini Mercury 25˚
Cancer Venus 29˚
And yes, i'm a guy!
