i can't get my head round it, inside me is a tiny, but very very very, potent obsessive streak.

like for example, i listened to the same song everyday for over a year.

and i also loved one film scene so much that i allmost watched that everytime i had a chance to if i was indoors!

i don't have OCD (or if i do, this is the only symptom - obsession!)

any ideas? here is my chart:

if anyone wants me to post up a chart with more planets or asteroids, just say,

but in anycase, is my pluto scorpio something to do with this obsessive streak?

I do this too so I'm looking for similiarities in our charts. Just quick observations - would need to look at rulers and aspects, etc, but quick similarities between our charts:

Sun in 1st (in Fire sign)
Mars in 2nd (in Earth sign)
Chiron in 12th (in Water sign)
Vesta in 5th (in Fire sign)

I listened to the same CD in my car for a well over a couple of years. And I can listen to the same song or even one part of it repetitively - for days/weeks. When I find a scene in a movie or tv show I'll watch it consistently - and when I get the chance, again, for as long as it takes. Just the one scene. Sometimes its about trying to recapture the feeling of how it made me feel the first time I saw it. But mostly it's because I'm trying to learn it inside out. When I know it and have absorbed the feelings or the knowledge I need I become bored and move on. If it's a person I'm studying - then I watch everything about them until I know their mannerisms and gestures - everything about them. Once that is mastered, I move on to the next person/thing. I have always put it down to Pluto in Virgo in 6th, for me. I work like that too - totally absorbed in what I do. Despite all my Aries and all the jokes I make about Aries Merc having the attention span of a gnu - I have excellent focus for something I'm interested in - total devotion. Astrology is something that I can study endlessly - there are not enough hours in the day.

EDIT:

We both have Jupiter (in Water sign) opposite Saturn (in Earth sign) and Moon square Saturn. Also we both have Venus/Jupiter aspects - you square, me opposition. As well as Moon/Uranus aspect - you square, me trine.

Don't know if that helps - or is even on the right track.

PeaceAngel, your post, i could have wrote it my self, but i didn't go to the extent of how obsessive the streak was like urs did, because i thought it was just embarrassing enough to admit that i listened to the same song everyday for a year, and it wasn't just one play a day, i'd play the song alot in one day.

i would deliberately avoid others knowing these small obsessions. i also get heavily focused in things, random subjects, i noticed one of the first ones for me was the titanic when i was young, i got really absorbed in the idea of how it sunk, and what the damage was like, and i was obsessed with its design - very random.

just as you said, i can listen to one part of a song over and over, it can not bore me for a long long long time. its the same with films, and you literally said it as how i tried to explain to my self why i watch this one scene over and over, - to recapture the impact it had on me.

that is exactly what it is for me when it comes to film scenes or films in general.

i think its the same with music, but not just the impact, just the general enjoyment i got out of the song, i will keep playing it (if i really really enjoyed hearing it) over and over until that enjoyment wears off a little.

since our obsessive streak is so similar, we must have something in our charts, or maybe we just have an obsessive disorder!, either way, im glad to know im not the only obsessive weirdo in the world!

edit -

i also realized this film scene i have kept watching over and over has two reasons, the emotional impact of the scene (very very epic) and the score to the scene is equally epic, both had a huge impact of that "wow" factor at me. i think thats why i am currently obsessed with it!

I so understand what you are saying. The one scene thing - i do that a lot. The scene in Indecent Proposal where he's changed his mind and running after her and he's running down the corridor and then in the elevator - two things there - his emotion, desperation - and also the music - it's just so beautiful. I had to track it down. It's now on my iPod and I listen to that one piece of the whole song a great deal. Another big scene that I love is The End Of The Affair - where he chases her out of the restaurant and they are under his coat in the rain and they kiss. The music in that is so beautiful and emotive and perfect that it adds to the scene tremendously. I can watch that for hours. Music is very very important to me - means a lot to me - takes me to other places. I can listen to that first guitar solo of Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb for hours, or the breath/sigh that Axl Rose makes in Don't Cry. And the riff in Led Zeppelin's In The Light. All for hours or days at a time. It's about the emotion - the release. There is a scene from Sex & The City - where it's Carrie's birthday and she's had a miserable day and Big is outside in his limo and she walks up and sees him and gets in and during their conversation he asks her if she's had a good day and she replies that she's had a fabulous day - even though it was horrible - and just the way they play that scene - the tones in their voices, the warmth in it. I can just watch that and watch it. I love it. I'm in love with it. I just find great beauty in these things and I want to feel that - for myself, inside myself. That's all it comes down to. For me it's about feelings. I think maybe through music and movies that I am given an opportunity to feel things that I don't or can't in every day life and to capture the reality of that feeling I need to listen or watch until it's absorbed. I think that a lot of people are like that - we just don't openly talk about it like this.

But you know, I don't consider myself obsessive. I understand why others who don't feel that way and don't understand it would though.

maybe a word like obsessive can be replaced with

being highly focused, concentrated, and intensely interested in something that appeals to you and/or that you feel an affinity with.

I'd say that it is reflected by your Pluto square Ascendant

For me, that is exactly it. Precise.

I don't have Pluto/Ascendant aspects. I have Neptune trine Chiron/Ascendant - 6 & 7 degree orbs though. I think there is a healing element to it too - hugely, in fact. Drac Pluto opposite Tropical Sun. Trop Pluto quincunx Trop Venus & Drac Sun. Again, don't know if that helps or indicates.

You know, I can really relate to this, and it's both with music and books - especially books. If I read a book I love I will keep re-reading sentences again, and again, again, compulsively. For years. The phrases stick in my head and I feel ease just to see the text, because it becomes 'real' to me, like I can put color and a voice and sometimes a texture to it.
It sounds awfully OCD or, I dunno. SOMETHING weird. Synesthesia, perhaps. It's a very visceral and tactile yearning.
I think maybe it's my Mercury conjunct Pluto. But I also have 12th house Moon oppose Uranus, and Jupiter oppose Venus. I'm wondering if Venus in Scorpio makes for obsessive interests in not just people

I get the same thing with food sometimes, very very specific food cravings. I'm like one of those pregnant women with the weird cravings, except it's always happening. I want textures and tastes with certain foods, and the second I pop them into my mouth, I feel colors sometimes.

Who knows. Feel a little weird for sharing that

Wow, I would just like to say that you have five planets in their Domiciles (Sun, Mercury, Venus, Saturn and Pluto) and Jupiter exalted in Cancer. Very strong planets.

It's doesn't have to be Pluto/Ascendant aspects

it could be any aspect involving Pluto.....I would think that it involve hard aspects that include conjunction, opposition, square, semisquare, and sesquiquadrate, quincunx as well as parallel, contraparallel

quintile, biquintile might also have that hyperfocus, concentration quality too

so maybe those could reflect that too

I know that I can be a bit obsessive. I hyperfocus, deeply concentrate and immerse myself in material that I am interested in,and I could end up tuning others out that I am not paying attention of what's going on around me. That's how I even compensate for having problems remembering what I read(when I read something,I can't remember it, I go blank). I read it slowly to myself repeatedly until it sticks in my head. I am also primarily a picture thinker, and so I use visualization of pictures to help me understand what I read, and that's reflected by my Mercury parallel Neptune,Mercury conjunct Sun/Neptune midpoint, and Neptune in 3rd.....I also wonder about my 11th harmonic isosceles trapezoid Mercury-Saturn-Uranus-Sedna with corresponding midpoint pictures of Mercury oppose Saturn/Sedna and Sedna oppose Mercury/Uranus. I believe that Sedna has to do with visualization, imagination like Neptune but even more vivid with Sedna being more otherworldly object than Neptune. My Mercury/Uranus midpoint is also conjunct Neptune/Pluto midpoint, and midpoint-midpoint conjunction is opposed by Sedna. the Pluto involved could also fit with the hyperfocus, concentration.

my own indicators for obsessiveness, deep concentration, hyperfocus, and deeply immersing myself in what and who I am interested in are:

Sun contraparallel Pluto
Sun,Mars,Pluto in golden section triangle with a corresponding midpoint picture of Pluto square Sun/Mars
exact Mercury-Pluto golden section aspect
also my Sun,Mercury, and Venus in Scorpio

I think that obsession could be perseverance in its unhealthy form

interestingly, my Perseverantia in 5th trine Pluto in less than 1 degree orb.

actually my Urania(Astrology) in Gemini in 9th,Pluto-Freud-Kepler-Child in Libra in 1st,and Perseverantia in Aquarius in 5th are in a grand trine....all aspects within 1 degree.
This could indicate my intense focus, concentration, perseverance in Astrology(especially the psychological aspects) which could also be an obsession. Kepler might be about my interest in minor aspects. Kepler is the one that introduced minor aspects like the quintile, biquintile, sesquiquadrate. I also have Kepler Astrology program.

as for the asteroid, child, well....I'd rather do astrology charts for children(especially neurodivergent children), help them be understood.

I also wonder if my future children will be astrologers too.

Is this a problem?

I only see it as a problem if it imposes on someone else and significantly reduces the happiness of their life.

I'd even say it was quite normal to listen repetively to a piece of music you like, I would last a couple of weeks rather than years, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who does this privately and find it gives some focus in some part of my soul. Why privately? Well, I wouldn't want to irritate the members of my family by obliging them to listen to a track repeatedly by imposition.

I am going to second Glaucus' suggestion of Plutonian influence.

My husband has a wide Pluto/Asc conjunction in Virgo. His ability to hone in an on a task and complete it to a high standard, regardless of the time it takes, is quite extraordinary. He can be quite obssessed over things, mainly this runs to his career. Maybe himself, but as long as it isn't how many times I should fold the bath towels before putting them in the cupboard, we shall get along fine.

Pluto rules my chart and is conjunct the Moon. A common LL aspect, and one that hints of internal obssession.

Yeah - I agree - I don't see it as a problem. It's just a part of who I am and how I assimilate things.

If anything it adds to it - brings happiness and joy.

Yeah - it's very private for me too. With music it is on my iPod and so it's extra personal - the music is purely mine. With TV it's at night when everyone is asleep. And like MVM I do it with books too, and that's an entirely personal experience as well. I too read the same line over and over again - to absorb it's meaning and essence.

I don't think it's obsessive.

Pluto. Maybe for me Pluto quincunx Venus and also Pluto trine Mars. It seems to fit with how it works for me.

Intersesting topic, btw. One of my fave things about LL - you never know what you're going to get - in terms of threads or posts. Brilliant.

I have the Pluto quincunx Venus too, PeaceAngel. I never knew how to interpret it - but it does kind of register in this case.
I wonder if 5th house Mercury sextiling Neptune might add to it. And I read somewhere that the Moon on the 3rd house cusp sometimes makes for strange visceral reactions to words and communication - that might explain some of my readings stuff too, I don't know.

Right-O about interesting subjects here. I love this place. I can't believe how much I've learned so far, it's amazing
I'm really glad I'm not alone on this though, and that others have equally vivid interests

My grandma tends to be obsessive and of a nervous nature and i cudnt help noticing that ur chart is similar to hers, in that u have several grand squares as well as several oppositions making all those criss-crosses inside those grand squares. I wud study those first.

thanks for all the responses, im glad i made this topic, im so glad some people could relate, it might not be a problem, but i just felt like i was the only one, since i do it in my personal space a lot, my mum noticed it, and said "whats wrong with you listening to that song over and over again", i didn't know what to say,i just felt like there might be something wrong with me.

either way, the song i (don't really do it now) listened to over n over for a year was wonderwall- oasis. lol that song wud probably drive most of you insane. but i miss my childhood very much, that song came out during that time, i am attached to it because it reminds me of happy memories as awell as me loving the song so much.

the film scene that i am currently obsessed over currently has no dialogue, its pure film score and epic in what happens, but its not a "nice" scene at all.

it will be very interesting if we can all find a placement that is the same, it might not be between pluto and a personal planet, could be an asteroid?

i'm the same! my play counts of my favourite songs are way above 500. they're mostly always on repeat on my iPod, and i just listen to them over and over, taking in every detail of the lyrics, beat, melody etc. sometimes i even leave my iPod on, playing the song, even if i'm not even listening to it, lol. i guess it's my way of appreciating the song so much, that i need it on constant rotation.

and don't get me started on how obsessive i get when i'm in love with something or someone. i remember being way into Buffy the Vampire Slayer back in the day, and recording every episode on VHS when it ewould come on TV, then rewatch it like 3 times every day, until next week's episode. NOTHING and NO ONE would come in my way of not letting me watch it, even my grandad who would've preferred to watch the news at the time lol.

and then, if i'm in a relationship, i need to be with them every second of the day (not literally), and get to know everything about them, obsessing over the little things such as their favourite food and wondering when i last had that. then my venus kicks in, and i'm just in there, wanting to grab their soul forever and take it with me, only if they've proved themselves worthy.

i'm pretty psychotic.

Very interesting thread! I also have obsessive tendencies. I also like to listen to a song over and over again. I might think of something over and over again, something that might have happened and cannot stop remembering.
I think obsession is unhealthy when it impedes you from leading a "normal" life. I know someone with obsessive compulsive disorder, and trust me our obsession is not a problem. The type of obsession the character Jack Nicholson portrays in as Good as it Gets has is a problem.
Some people find it awfully boring to listen to the same song or watch the same movie, but that doesn't mean they are healthier people.
As many of you said, Pluto has a lot to do with this. I have pluto in the 3rd which can mean obsessive thoughts. It's also square my moon (obsessive emotions??) and widely square my ascendant.

I agree with Glaucus that it is your pluto square asc, especially since it's in the sign of scorpio (the sign of obsession) and in the 4th (habits and what we pick up from the family).

I have pluto in 1st opposite saturn in the 7th. I'm obsessive a bit here and there, until I find someone I'm attacted to then it's like stalker chick mode kicks in. Only because I have tremendous self control does it keep me from go to the lengths of parking outside someones house, calling to hear their voice, etc. (But don't think it doesn't cross my mind!--and stays there)

Someone else mentioned on this thread how they can absorb every little detail and mannerism of someone. I was so glad to hear this!! When I'm attacted to someone their ever little gesture, look, sound imprints in my mind and I will go around for over a year with this person in my mind. Reliving and reliving all the wonderful little things that makes that person unique.

I will find out everything I can about that person....luckily all that private stuff just stays in my head and I just play with it. I wonder sometimes about the fine line between someone who just internalizes it and someone who acts on it and becomes a menace... wouldn't take much.

Funny thing is no one would think this of me by looking at me. Little happy, friendly blonde who looks so innocent and harmless. And I am. Until someone can read my mind then I think they'd run ...run..run...

mercury in virgo might be the reason

but saturn opp jupiter (planet of exaggeration) is making two T-sq one with moon and other with venus..apex planets in both are in highly mental hhouses, 9 and 3rd...so that is what strikes me most prominently
