Is having a planet in your first house comparable to having that sign as your Ascendnt? If Saturn is in the 1st house, would it compare to Capricorn Rising? Or is it more accurate to say if Saturn is CONJUCT the Ascendant, that it acts as a "secondary" Ascendant?

Interesting question

I don't know. For myself i have aries rising but l have mars in the 1st house and l am taurus sun and my venus is conjunct exact my AC. My mars semi-sextiles my venus exact. I get confused as to how much of what i'm supposed to be feeling from it!

I suppose it depends on your AC and if the AC aspects the 1st house planet?

i can't tell, my 1st house is in leo, and my sun is in the 1st, it doesn't conjunct the asc though.

my moon aries trines my asc, and my sun leo trines mc.

but i think other aspects in my chart tone down all that fire.

questions like these wud be better suited to people who know me from the outside view, but no one i know knows anything about astrology like i do

This is tricky, I seem to have the same dilemma. Saturn RX in itself is interesting and hard to pinpoint. The only real interpretations I can conjure about Saturn RX is that Carl Jung had it in his first house, and it was also in Aquarius, he was quite revolutionary in his ideals, and never felt adjusted with himself, although most never saw this side to him. RX planets I find are quite interesting. Especially RX planets in the first house. I still am trying to figure out if they really effect ones personality more or less than direct planets in the first house...

but what if you have more than one planet Conjunct your Ascendant? My ASC is in Virgo with Mercury, Venus and Mars conjunct it. Venus and Mars are in the first house, but Mercury lands in the 12th. Uranus, and Neptune also Trine my ASC.

I've got Saturn in the 1st house but it's not conjunct AC. It affects me a lot. I know I look stiff, aloof and tense at times. But at the same time I love to be the centre of attention if I feel comfortable. So I would say that a planet in the 1st hs has a strong influence upon the way we are seen by others but I don't think it weakens the AC. It's like the AC gets more shades to it.

Yes... I didnt mean that it wud weaken the Ascendant. Just add anither shade. Mainly, I was wonddering if it wud be wise to read (as in my example) the regular rising sign description and ALSO read Capricrn rising.

I have Taurus Mars in the 1st conjunct my ascendant.

I should be a boxer LOL.

I hear it tells something of your birth, how you might have head injuries. I was taken out with salad spoons and have a very faint scar on my hair line. But I'm not a boxer, though I do try and roll with the punches

I think it depends on the planets. And the degrees. And if they make a conjunction. Shouldn't weaken, would strengthen, I would think. For Mars on the first, it makes for persistence and not really resting on one's laurels. Sometimes being a bit too quick and hasty actually. And hating ruts.

Well MVM...
i have Aries Rising..yup it sounds like it. Lol

I think Iv answered my own question tho. The person I was thinking of has saturn CONJUNCT ascendant...I read this description which I will share with you...ill point out the only thiongs that I find dont apply.

So my idea is that ..yes...a furthur reading (say in your case) of Aries rising ..if Mars is CONJUNCT ascdnt....a furthur reading of Aries rising would augment the regular rising sign. Tell a furthur story.

Capricorn by Barbara Nagel

Capricorn Rising endows an energetic, success-oriented personality, with the determination to achieve your personal goals. (TRUE!)The shrewdness and open ambition associated with the sun or moon in Capricorn does not always show up so overtly in the personality of those with Capricorn Ascendant but these traits are present nevertheless. You could be a very capable manager or supervisor, willing to accept responsibilities and positions of authority.(TRUE!)

You strongly identify with the material world and tangible assets. You are unlikely to adopt easy-going, "take me as I am" attitudes, for you feel more comfortable with formality.( I dont dont think this applies, but he is an Aries) You want to be aware of all the rules of social conduct and adapt your actions to fit these structures.(This is True to a degree) Consciously or subconsciously you specifically choose the company of people who make you look good. It is not unusual for handsome Capricorn Rising males to select less attractive wives or, beautiful Capricorn Rising women to select less attractive female friends.(definately not true for this person)

Ruled by Saturn, lord of structure, restriction and longevity, you may have experienced a difficult birth or restricted childhood. (TRUE!)However, it hardly matters what particular difficulties life presents you with, for your biggest challenge is always you in yourself. (TRUE!)You feel dissatisfaction with some aspect of your personality or appearance and may develop conflicting behaviour to deal with these feelings when they surface.(TRUE!) One side of your character is prone to practice strict self denial, while the other longs to abandon itself to hedonistic pleasures, perhaps as as a form of self destruction.(TRUE!) At every turn you confront fears and insecurity. How well you deal with the conflict marks your success as a well-adjusted adult. Fortunately, these conflicts seem to settle into perspective as you get older.

Capricorn ruling the first house raises the competitive spirit and by no means dictates the presence of a sombre or colourless personality. On the contrary, it implies individuals with overcompensatingly cheerful personalities, who willingly accept responsibilities and hardships which they feel they were born to endure. There is always a choice to be made and the right one is never easy, because it usually involves success which must be earned.

Your abstemious eating habits help you avoid gaining too much weight. Sensitive skin, finely textured hair, brittle bones, and dental difficulties are common physical complaints.(TRUE!)

Try this one on for size, MVM...

Aries rising is both positive and dynamic. It endows you with a go-getting, achievement-oriented personality, for you like to be in charge and want to make a big impression under all circumstances. Dedicated to satisfying personal ambitions and pursuing your own ends with complete disregard for the feelings of others doesn't necessarily mean you are always selfish, my dear, but in your haste and eagerness to reach that goal or accomplish that oh so important purpose, it is so easy for you to forget other people's needs, or that what you do may react adversely on others. A powerful inner drive and a strong need for accomplishment, combined with your indomitable Aries courage, urges you to go for things others might think are too risky, too foolish, or just too much work
.

Enthusiastic Aries has loads of energy. Once inspired, you rarely hesitate to act and you usually get where you want to go. But be warned! Your lively enthusiasm can get out of hand; you tend to overestimate your own abilities, or the influence you have. In general you maintain an informal approach to life, with easy, open mannerisms and an attitude of "take me as I am". Confronting situations openly and with force need not necessarily brand you as unduly aggressive, for you can be quiet and hard-working, sublimating your energy inconspicuously in low-key activities. However your innate restlessness makes it difficult for you to develop an extended concentration span, control your untidiness, or get truly focused and organised.

Ruled by Mars, the fiery warrior, many Arians have reddish hair, ruddy complexions, or a distinctive birthmark on their heads or faces. The Aries mouth has a characteristic down-turn, often associated with a longish face. Being your own boss makes life easier, but you can work in a regular job as long as you don't find the work objectionable and are treated fairly by supervisors. You can be easy-going about many things, but any attempt to ram authority down your throat gets your hackles rising. No doubt the sincerity of your passions makes up to some degree for the rashness of your actions....

You have mechanical abilities or cleverness in one form or another. Fevers, eye strain, accidental injury to the head, skin rashes, overwork, migraine headaches, and insect bites are your most likely physical complaints. Your extremism leads to mental and emotional instability in some situations and you get distinctly stressed out by being thwarted in the pursuit of your goals.

Crabby...yes, I've read for Aries rising often because I figured it kind of would fit, and it does
I thought it would make me more active, and it does to a degree, but I also think having Mars Taurus in the 1st conj Taurus ascendant almost brings out the stubbornness to the forefront and makes it more pronounced and ready to dig its heels in ...and also, yes, getting frustrated when things don't go my way quickly enough

I think whatever planets are in the first become accentuated in general.

I did read that Saturn conjunct the ascendant is good for longevity...and dental work
Guess it's because Saturn rules structure, and the teeth? Hm.

Oh, forgot to add - I have a friend with Cappy rising. He's so uptight LOL. But he's also a Taurus with a Virgo moon...eh...earth, earth, earth, a Pluto square ascendant. And a Grand Cross
He kinda seems like he has a stick up his butt most of the time .... He's got a great sense of humor though, but it's that Capricorn deadpan kind of humor, where he cracks a joke with a straight face, and it just makes it soooo much funnier because of his lack of expression LOL.
He's pretty hard to read in general. Very critical, very UN-animated face, but also very caring - because when you get to know the flip side of a Saturn rising, they're very Cancerian and their underbellies are soft and sweet, and very nurturing (they hide it well until you really know them and they feel you are worthy)

I have uranus and pluto in 1st. While I certainly behave like aquarius/scorpio at times, it always has to be okayed by my virgo rising. It seems to have the last say. Unless it is my saturn opposition to those planets having the final say. Something is regulating those two.

For example the sex thing associated with pluto. My virgo rising can be seen in that dressing sexy errs on the side of conservative, same with my uranus/hippie chick thing.

I came up with a theory with ascendants, I don't know if it applies to everyone, especially if you have Aries ascendant. But Let's say for example you have Leo Asc., without any planets in the first, than look to the 5th house, and see what the cusp is, for example if one has Scorpio on the 5th house cusp, they could seem more Scorpionic than most Leo Asc. But than again with Leo Asc. One really has to look at the Sun sign as well...

Another example is let's say someone has Sag. Asc.. with Jupiter in Gemini, and Virgo on the 9th house cusp, than this person would seem more Mecurian than most Sag. Asc. I dunno maybe this theory doesn't make sense!

Missneptune, a lot of astrologers look at the planet that rules the ascendant and see what house and sign thats in if you dont have any planets in the first. Like if you're a Leo ASC you'd look at your Sun and see what sign and house its in.

By your way, most Leo risings would have Sagittarius on the 5th (actually all would if you're using Equal houses) and would mostly come off as Sagittarian.

Well I think generally the ASC will be the greatest influence on someone's appearance but a planet in the first and esp conjunct ASC can have a serious influence on a person's looks. For example I have Jupiter on my ASC in Aries. I am essentially a textbook Aries riser but have a gut and have a longer than average and bigger than average chin (Jupiter) and full cheeks (Jupiter). Another example I can think of is that I know someone who is Sco rising but has Neptune in the first in Sag (but not conj ASC). Although he is Scorpionic in looks, there is a very heavy Piscean slant in his looks (with a bit of Sag even). So in the end, I think a planet conj ASC will have a great impact but I still think overall, ASC dominates the most.

Also look to see other signs in the first as well. I was looking at Julie Christie the other day and she struck me as very Leo. I looked up her details and she is 29 deg Cancer ASC and the rest of her first house falls in Leo (with Pluto there as well).

Im glad someone posted this. I have a first house stellium. I have Saturn Rx, Neptune Rx, Uranus Rx in the 1st house. Uranus conjucts my ascendant. I have Venus Rx, Jupiter, Mercury Rx in the 8th trining my Capricorn Ascendant. Saturn is in Aquarius in the 1st house, Scorpio is in my 11th house.

Im not sure how all this manifests but it difinately helps in Drama class lol. I am good at impersonations and fittig characters. Outside drama, in school Im kinda shy in class but at lunch with my friends I am crazy, sarcastic, witty, and perverted with a wicked sense of humor. At home all those traits magnify and I become an offbeat yippy person, dwelling downtown in art galleries and coffee shops.

Honestly, I've never had a problem relating to different people even with Rx planet and Capricorn rising, I mesh well with all kinds of people after awhile. Almost like a chameleon but keeping my individaulity in secret.

Well Cheshirekat, they all would have an influence on your appearance, the planet closest to the ASC will most likely have the greatest effect.

I've got no clue about my appearance and which planet shows up more. I'll have to look at the orbs or something. I wanted to do astro influence picture thread but I know people are so tired of guess the sun/moon/asc threads, that I changed my mind about it but I think it would be more helpful and I would also like to see other people's 1st/asc appearace influeces or read about other's characterisics.

Maybe a later date..
