i've never seen this mentioned anywhere, but i'm just curious. i have extra wide first and seventh houses and i'm wondering if this might be a 'clue' that these areas of life are more relevant for me. it would make sense in terms of transits moreso than anything, i guess, but i find it odd that i've never seen this discussed. if it's true, you could, by just glancing a chart, see what areas of life are going to be more of an issue to each person. thoughts?

Your correct, those houses are more emphasized in your chart. Are you using the Koch house system? The Koch emphasizes this for certain.

NO!!! The wider the house DOES NOT mean that it is more important! Wider houses is generally reflected by where you were born. If it is a very high latitude (i.e. Northern Canada, Scandinavia, Alaska, etc.) the houses will be wider than those at a lower latitude in every system except the Equal House System.

i'm using pacidius. can't remember what my chart is like in koch, but i think it is similar, though they are less wide.

but plutonian persona, doesn't the fact that transits through the wider houses will last a lot longer imply more relevance? i mean if astrology is about learning through certain experiences, and the houses the planets travel through denote the 'flavour' and areas of life that bring these lessons, doesn't that, for lack of a better word, prove the emphasis on those houses for the individual?

And that, as they say heart cakes, is the rub...

One of the biggest controversies in astrology is what to do about people born in those higher latitudes, especially concerning transits. I personally like to use Equal House for high latitude people, because I think that it helps to give a more accurate picture of their chart.

However, heart cakes answer me a question: Have you found that transits of the certain planets, especially the outer ones, effect you longer than those at lower latitudes?

It does come down to where you were born, but since this is a factor in your chart, it's significant. I don't like to mess with the houses. But you can always use Equal.
