The Vertex and the Nodes

These are usually the culprits in those relationships that feel fated beyond our control. This is neither a good or bad aspect… just a powerful need to be together. The Vertex is also referred to as “Destiny’ Gate”. It is an Axis (the other side, the Anti-vertex) where the Prime Meridian intersects with the Sun’s Ecliptic orbit. The Vertex in Synastry (or the Anti-vertex) should only be used with conjunctions with orbs of no more than 2 degrees. It is not unusual in a Composite chart to find the Vertex conjunct the Descendant within a degree with married or “destined” couples. The Vertex gives this feeling of inescapable fateful life altering events. Look also at the first meeting chart and see if a Vertex was activated at the time of the meeting. The Nodes (also known as the Dragon head and the Dragon tail) are important karmic indicators. Without going too much into the meaning, look for Nodes to conjunct the other person’s Angular Axis (Asc, MC, IC, Desc) Conjunctions with either Node and a personal planet of the other. And finally, look for the Nodes in the Natals to oppose each other or square each other (hard aspects) Again, visit the first meeting chart and look for the same and also the Composite back to the individual Natals.

The Arabic Parts

Calculate the Arabic Parts for each natal and then apply to the Synastry. Look for the Parts of

Love = ASC+Venus-Sun

Lovers = Mars+Venus-5th Cusp

Karma = ASC+Saturn-Sun

Sexual Desire = ASC+Cusp5+rule of 5

Sexual Drive = ASC+Pluto-Venus

Marriage = ASC+Cusp of 7th - Venus

Destiny = MC+Sun-Moon (am) MC +Moon-Sun (pm)

A handy online calculator available at http://www.noendpress.com/pvachier/arabicparts/index.php

See if the parts fall on the other persons personal planets or on the Angular Axis (and corresponding houses), or the Nodes/Vertex.

Antiscons are the vertical mirror point of a planet, and the opposite point the Contra Antiscon. It is a strong karmic indicator if a personal planet’s Antiscon is conjunct or opposed a personal planet or point. I personally realized how strong this aspect is when I found my Moon’s (Cancer 6) antiscon is Gemini 23. I see that same degree and sign in my Persona charts, it is conjunct my daughter’s Mars, my son’s Venus, my sister’s Moon, my brother’s Sun, my mother’s Asc, my best friend for 25+ years Asc, and have seen it conjunct the Moon and/or Venus and points with various relationships or love interests. Don’t forget to look at the antiscons in the composite and see if they conjunct with the individual Natals.

Here’s the vast list… good luck and keep the orbs tight!

Sun conjunct or opposed Moon
Sun conjunct major points (Vertex, MC, IC, Asc, Desc, Nodes)
Sun located in the other’s 4th or 7th house
Moon conjunct or opposed major points
Moon conjunct or oppose Moon
Moon conjunct or opposed Venus
Moon conjunct or opposed Neptune
Venus conjunct any major points
Venus conjunct or opposed Neptune
Venus conjunct or opposed Pluto…. this one use a wider orb, and beware it brings a very obsessive quality to the relationship
Saturn conjunctions to the Moon or the Sun or on the major points

In addition, Midpoints.

Sun conjunct/opposed others Sun/Moon
Moon conjunct/opposed other’s Sun/Moon
The Sun/Moon midpoint falling on any of the major points of the other.
