From I I have been able to ascertain from reading many posts, many seem to indicate that sextiles not a very stimulating or motivating aspect to have in synastry. Should we ignore them and look to the squares, conjunctions, overall?

I guess because it seems like that are only regarded as a "mild" influence.

mild influence? well, I know someone who unexpectedly got money to buy a house when their tr. Uranus was (in the 2nd) sextile IC, would you call it mild? and this is just one of the examples

I guess it depends on your chart.
I have many sextile aspects in my natal and no oppositions so in synastry, sextile works more than an opposition for me..At least from my experiences

Sextile is one of the major aspects,it is important in natal, synastry and composite..
For sextile aspect orbs are tighter for synastry.

I cant comment on synastry as I don't really use them often, but I can definitely feel Sun sextile Uranus & Moon extile Mercury in my natal chart. These are natal aspects that I find very easy to express, they kind flow without any effort.....unlike the "undisciplined" trine....

I don't believe that we should disregard sextiles. They are Ptolemaic aspects. I would use smaller orbs for the sextiles.

sextile is the aspect associated with opportunities. Sextile can be about communication, intellect because waxing sextile corresponds with Gemini and the waning sextile corresponds with Aquarius. Both Gemini and Aquarius are airsigns which are associated with communications, intellect.

conjunctions, oppositions, squares are aspects that are considered event-oriented aspects by cosmobiologists and uranian astrologers.

conjunction corresponds with Aries
opposition corresponds with Libra
waxing square corresponds with Cancer
waning square corresponds with Capricorn

Aries,Libra,Cancer, and Capricorn are the cardinal signs, and they all have to do with action and initiation.

semisquares, sesquiquadrates can be action oriented because they are 8th harmonics which are multiples of 4. 2 X 4 = 8.

btw....I believe that if events occur during a sextile transit, then the person probably has conjunction, opposition, square, semisquare, sesquiquadrate transits....even if it's a transit to a midpoint....even transiting midpoint.

also if the sextile is part of a configuration like a minor grand trine, it can be involved in an event.

sextile transits can seem to work because the transiting planet can be semisquare another planet that is in minor aspect to the planet that is sextile to the transiting planet.

for example, I have Moon squine Mercury with 10 minutes of arc. Squire is 105 degree aspect...a 12th harmonic aspect.
Transiting Pluto is sextile my Moon, but it also semisquaring my Mercury.

many astrologers overlook the semisquare, sequiquadrate because they focus only on the major aspects which are known as the Ptolemaic aspects because Ptolemy used those aspects. He used them by sign and not by geometrical angle like most western astrologers do.

I believe the semisquare, sesquiquadrate are more important. I share the views of cosmobiologists and uranian astrologers.

Uranian astrologers believe that even the 22.5 degree series of aspects are significant aspects and involved in events. Some even use the 11.25 aspect.

it really depends on the system that you use, and so not all astrologers will agree with each other on what are important aspects.

cosmobiologists and uranian astrologers do tend to disregard the trines and sextiles. They view them as more about psychological conditions.

Magi Astrologers disregard the sextile unless it's part of an aspect configuration, but they don't disregard the quincunx even though it's a 12th harmonic aspect,an aspect of a higher harmonic than the sextile, suggesting that it's more minor than the sextile.

parallels, contraparallels can be involved in events too.

i wouldn't disregard it.

its not the most powerful, or you could say not the most potent aspect of the harmonious ones, but its still there i think.

I feel sextiles in synastry strongly! I definitely feel the Gemini Leo sextile whenever I meet a Leo. I count them.

------------------
Virgo Asc 6˚& Mars 0˚
Gemini Sun 24˚
Libra Moon 14˚(conjunct Pluto 0˚ in 2nd house)
Gemini Mercury 25˚
Cancer Venus 29˚ (Mutual reception with Moon)
And yes, i'm a guy!

Trine and sextile aspects work only if you apply the "law of attraction" rule and "take action". In my opinion, they are WIND at your back, so you need to walk, sometimes run in order to benefit fully from them. If you just sit back and wait, you miss the magic operating on your side.
