Astrogenetics of Depression

this is stemming from the thread on stelliums and suicide

I strongly doubt that stelliums have anything to do with suicide, murder

as for depression, it's a medical condition....especially if it's clinical depression.

I don't trust regular astrology when looking at medical condition indicators. I prefer cosmobiology when it comes to medical astrology indicators.

As a cosmobiologist, I look at only the hard aspects and midpoints. I also look at parallels, contraparallels. Ebertin used declination parallels, contraparallels with midpoints

no zodiac signs nor houses used. just geometry

I am going over the charts of 3 straight generations of Depression (my maternal grandfather,my mother, and me)

My grandfather committed suicide after dealing with Hepatitis C,cirrhosis of the liver. He was a lifelong functioning alcoholic.

June 22, 1935
Bryte,California
2:58 PM

He had stationary Saturn oppose Neptune - 1'49 orb. That's a potential indicator for alcoholism, depression, and chronic illness
He had no other major Saturn aspects

He had Saturn sesquiquadrate Pluto - '17

Saturn quincunx Midheaven - '28
(the depression planet in the health aspect to the angle that is associated with the "I" in Cosmobiology can be significant for depression)

Midheaven sesquiquadrate Mars/Saturn - '58
Mars/Saturn midpoint is known as the Death Axis in Cosmobiology.....with it aspecting the "I", very significant.....it can be involved in a violent death

if you look deeper into his chart by looking at the midpoints

He has a whole bunch of Saturn midpoint configurations

He has Uranus oppose Ascendant - '10

Uranus conjunct Sun/Saturn - '51
Ascendant oppose Sun/Saturn - '41
Uranus = Ascendant = Sun/Saturn

Uranus conjunct Mercury/Saturn - '04
Ascendant oppose Mercury/Saturn - '15
Uranus = Ascendant = Mercury/Saturn

both configurations can indicate not only depression, but it can also indicate nervous tension too.......he was hyperactive......he was definitely an ADHD type. I included those configurations in my post on the Astrogenetics of Novelty-seeking, DRD4 7R Gene,ADHD. He never went to high school, but he was very intelligent.

Venus oppose Saturn/Node - '24

Mars sesquiquadrate Venus/Saturn - '07
(His lovelife had problems.......His first wife was a brief sham of a marriage that produced my mother when he was in the Marines, and he was in a long marriage with my stepgrandmother and had 4 children with her,and her in-laws always had problems with him. He and his wife argued a lot,but they loved each other. He was taking care of his mother-in-law who was in her 90's when killed himself, and he was overwhelmed..especially when he was sick and depressed. My stepgrandmother was working out of town

Cosmobiologists also use declination midpoints

Saturn contraparallel Moon/Venus - '06

Saturn contraparallel Moon/Midheaven - '02

(both configurations can indicate emotional depression as well as problems with the opposite sex...especially the mother.....Venus problems with his love, relationships)

Saturn parallel Mars/Ascendant - '02
Saturn-Mars known as the death axis.....it can be involved in a violent death

My mom attempted suicide in her preteens, and it was because she was depressed because she was in a foster home away from her family. She was in 13 foster homes. She had attempted suicide before when I was 5 years old after arguing with my stepfather. She had other suicide attempts too.

My mother has no hard Saturn aspects in her chart either.

but if you look at her midpoints:

Mars conjunct Saturn/Midheaven - '12
Mars-Saturn is known as the death axis....she has Mars-Saturn-Midheaven configuration like her father....it can be involved in a violent death....she already had a near death experience when she was shot)

She has Neptune sesquiquadrate Midheaven - '32

Midheaven oppose Mercury/Saturn - '19
Neptune sesquiquadrate Mercury/Saturn - '50
Neptune = Midheaven = Mercury/Saturn

Midheaven square Saturn/Node - '02
Neptune sesquiquadrate Saturn/Node - '35
Neptune = Midheaven = Saturn/Node

Saturn-Neptune configurations are not only indicators for depression, anxieties, insecurities, escapist issues like drugs/alcohol but also chronic illness and immune system issues.....every one of those things apply to her.

Her Neptune = Midheaven = Mercury/Saturn could be an indicator of her learning difficulties...she has mild Dyslexic,Dyspraxic symptoms(gross motor coordination, not fine motor)....she told me that she didn't feel that she was smart until she was in her 30's. She didn't complete the 9th grade, but she's very intelligent. My mother is a recovering drug addict/alcoholic. She has Hepatitis C which is a chronic liver disease. She also has history of Rheumatoid Arhritis which is an autoimmune disorder.
She has diagnosed Anxiety,Depressive Disorders.

My depression indicators:

I was diagnosed Generalized Anxiety Disorder and Dysthymic Disorder (chronic milder form of depression)in 2004, but was misdiagnosed as having Bipolar 1,2 in 1999,2002

I worked with my depression, anxiety by taking Irwin Naturals liquid gel male multitivamin, Nordic Naturals Cod liver oil for my Omega 3 DHA,EPA Omega 3 fatty acid intake.
as well as trying to stay in the present moment and being in the now (making the present moment my friend...not my enemy) - Eckhart Tolle, listening to New Age,meditation music regularly

October 29, 1971
San Francisco,California
3:20 AM

Saturn oppose Neptune - 3'19
Moon square Saturn - 1'56
Moon square Neptune - 1'22
Moon oppose Saturn/Neptune - '17
this indicator not only indicates depression, immune system issues(have highly sensitive immune system...get colds easily),chronic health problems but it also indicates my problems with overall brain brain functioning .....Moon is associated with the brain in Cosmobiology,Uranian Astrology........Moon is also associated with the eyes, and I have am very nearsighted with strong astigmatism....I also have poor eye coordination.......Moon is also women....misfortune with females including especially my mother is a very strong theme in my life)

Saturn oppose Jupiter - 3'09
Saturn oppose Jupiter/Neptune - '05
Saturn oppose Mars/Ascendant - '27
Saturn oppose Pluto/Node - '32
Saturn = Jupiter/Neptune = Mars/Ascendant = Pluto/Node

(note that there is a Saturn-Neptune configuration, and that indicates more issues with immune system.........Jupiter rules rules the liver and pancreas, and so there can be problems in those.......there is a family history of diabetes and Hepatitis)

Jupiter oppose Saturn/Midheaven - '06
(this configuration can indicate depression,.....Jupiter rules the liver and pancreas, and so there can be problems in those areas......there is a family history of diabetes and Hepatitis

Saturn semisquare Moon/Jupiter - '36
(this configuration can indicate depression but also problems with brain functioning.......Jupiter rules the liver and pancreas, and so there can be problems in those areas.....there is a family history of diabetes and hepatitis

Uranus oppose Mars/Saturn - '13
this configuration can not only indicate depression, but also hyperactivity, motor coordination issues.....mars-saturn is also the death axis....can indicate a violent death....I had near death experience with my mom when I was with her when she was shot....Uranus rules accidents, I am accident prone....also possibility death by accident)

Node oppose Saturn/Uranus - '16
(nervous tension)

Mars square Mercury/Saturn - '50
(this indicator not only indicates depression, but it also indicates my problems with speech, auditory processing, information processing, and communications in general as motor coordination issues

Mercury is the planet associated with nervous system in general. Saturn is the planet that is associated with not only bones, skin, but also the ears. Mercury-Saturn is said to be an indicator for the auditory organs according to Cosmobiology.

Mercury contrparallel Saturn - '38
Venus contraparallel Saturn - '52
Saturn contraparallel Neptune - '05
Saturn contraparallel Venus-

this configuration not indicates depression and immune system issues but also problems with the nervous system that include speech, auditory processing, information processing, and coordination
Venus and Saturn are said to be both involved with the skin...I have a history of acne including scars that resulted in insecurity, shyness in regards to looks/attractiveness leading to anxiety,depression....especially with my Venus contraparallel Saturn......misfortune in love life is strong theme in my life)

Sun quincunx Saturn - '13
(this configuration not only indicates depression, but it can also potential problems with the heart...Sun rules Saturn....also Sun is associated with male stuff, and so it could possible problems with testosterone.

That's 3 straight generations of Depressive Disorders.

I also want to point out that depression can stem from many things including even allergies and hormonal imbalances. antihistamines used to be as antidepressants. Testosterone used to be given to men for Depression.

Depression indicators are not so cut and dry.

The same indicators found in depression can also be indicators found in physical health problems like arthritis, lupus, acne, hormonal issues, allergies, inner ear disorders, and neurodegenerative diseases

of course the same indicators found in depression can be found in the charts of people with learning issues....especially if they are insecure connected to those issues. You will see that a lot with hard Mercury-Saturn configurations....especially if connected to hard aspect to Neptune because Neptune is nonlinear.....Mercury-Neptune is the nonlinear mind that doesn't fit mainstream teaching methods and have problems with memory. Memory problems are common in people with depression and disorganized type schizophrenia but also Dyslexia,Dyspraxia,ADHD(The 3 neurodivergent conditions overlap in symptoms and tend to be comorbid with each other). It is also common in diabetics too. Moon-Saturn-Neptune can also fit in with the aforementioned things.

I am a believer that our chart is a reflection of our DNA. All the aspects, midpoints could reflect our genes, chromosomes. I believe that our natal charts show predisposition for health problems, but none of them are definite.

When it comes to aspects in general, Cosmobiologists consider the following:

The combination of the unique characteristic of each planet involved.

The role a particular aspect plays in relation to the entire chart as a unit.

How the individual chooses to react in given circumstances (positively or negatively)

Environmental conditions.

What are the Causes of Depression - factors play a role in depression ?

Like any disease, there is not a single cause for a depression.

Depression is a combination of biological, genetic and psychological factors. At the biological level , depression results from abnormal levels of certain neurotransmitters in the brain. This can be caused by changing levels of hormones, explaining why many people first experience depression during puberty.

Depression is not just a state of mind. It is related to physical changes in the brain, and related to an chemical imbalance in the brain that carries signals in your brain and nerves. These chemicals are called neurotransmitters. Infact all psychological problems have some physical manifestations, and all physical illnesses have psychological components as well.

Some types of depression run in families, suggesting that a biological vulnerability can be inherited. This seems to be the case with bipolar disorder. Studies of families in which members of each generation develop bipolar disorder found that those with the illness have a somewhat different genetic makeup than those who do not get ill. However, the reverse is not true: Not everybody with the genetic makeup that causes vulnerability to bipolar disorder will have the illness. Apparently additional factors, possibly stresses at home, work, or school, are involved in its onset.

In some families, major depression also seems to occur generation after generation. However, it can also occur in people who have no family history of depression. Whether inherited or not, major depressive disorder is often associated with changes in brain structures or brain function.
What Causes depression?

The multiple causes of depression aren't completely understood. Current research suggests possible genetic, familial, biochemical, physical, psychological, and social causes. Psychological causes (the focus of many nursing interventions) may include feelings of helplessness and vulnerability, anger, hopelessness and pessimism, and low self-esteem. They may be related to abnormal character and behavior patterns and troubled personal relationships. In many patients, the history identifies a specific personal loss or severe stressor that probably interacts with the person's predisposition to provoke major depression.

Depression may be secondary to a specific medical condition, for example:

* metabolic disturbances, such as hypoxia and hypercalcemia
* endocrine disorders, such as diabetes and Cushing's syndrome
* neurologic diseases, such as Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease
* cancer (especially of the pancreas)
* viral and bacterial infections, such as influenza and pneumonia
* cardiovascular disorders such as heart failure
* pulmonary disorders such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
* musculoskeletal disorders such as degenerative arthritis
* GI disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome
* genitourinary problems such as incontinence
* collagen vascular diseases such as lupus
* anemia's.

Drugs prescribed for medical and psychiatric conditions as well as many commonly abused substances can also cause depression. Examples include antihypertensives, psychotropics, narcotic and nonnarcotic analgesics, antiparkinsonian drugs, numerous cardiovascular
medications, oral anti diabetics, antimicrobials, steroids, chemotherapeutic agents, cimetidine, and alcohol.

People who have low self-esteem, who consistently view themselves and the world with pessimism or who are readily overwhelmed by stress, are prone to depression. Whether this represents a psychological predisposition or an early form of the illness is not clear.

It is important to remember that all of the depressive disorders are treatable conditions.
