do you ever find yourself getting excited to get into or starting an argument in front of your significant other/crush just to show off your skills? there are times that i'll become verbally aggressive with, say, my brother in front of my bf just to beat my brother and turn to him and say, "Ha... I won... look at that! Make out with me now?"

@_@ I do it all the time. But I'm reasonable and "right" most of the time (Taurus Mercury Square Mars in Aquarius) ... Also don't forget we both have Venus in Gemini. Well I usually argue with my Boyfriend, and win... Lol

I don't like to argue, but I like to point out why you're wrong and I'm right.

I really hate to admit to this but.... I don't start arguments for the sake of it, but I do enjoy flexing my skills in front of an object of affection/crush/whatever.

Mercury in Cancer (6th) square Mars in aries (3rd) by a wide orb. (7 degrees)

The funny thing there is that my brother has Mars/Mercury Opposition and I have the Square. We are both Geminis. We get on great, but have done plenty of arguments for the sake of it, no-one will back down.

Most people on the planet are less keen on this kind of sparring, and over the years I have learnt that it is often best to keep quiet.

In my case, the Square is part of a T-Square with the Ascendant, the NN and Venus. So it really has been a big learning lesson for me ~ when to speak up, when to stay silent. I don't always get it right.

In front of my crush? Early on in our relationship he let me know that asserting how clever I am is unnecessary and not very attractive. His Sun/Saturn is conjunct my Mars. I married that one, lol, I must need someone who will stand up and set me straight.

@ taurean_scorpion
hahaha, oh us gemini venus do like a good debate... my venus (15*) is conjunct merc (18*) but square mars (20*) with a wide orb...

one of my favorite passtimes is arguing with strangers on the internet over anything. mostly on tumblr.com, a blogging platform with a social networking twist. i actually got myself a bit popular on there and into quite the drama. i eventually had to delete my blog. . but life moves on...

also, have you seen "thank you for smoking"? i swear nick naylor is a gemini. i'm also in love with him (the character & the actor, aaron eckhart. he's a pisces. YUUMM!). *sigh*.

@augentier
hmmmmm, we both have pisces mars but opposing mercuries... i'd love to get into a tiff with you lol! what house is your mercury in?

@dazzled
i usually end up in arguments because i started out pointing out people's flaws! and it's hard to win against someone who is only pointing out the obvious or truthful. *shrug*smirk*

@dulce luna
oh dear... cancer mercury and i can argue for hours. most of the time it's good, but sometimes it can get reaaaalllly bad. i'm really impersonal and cold during my arguments and take no offense to anything said. every cancer merc i have debated with has brought something personal up from the past. when i call them out on it for the sake of keeping the argument impersonal, the trouble begins and the verbal claws COME OUT. luckily, this has only happened maybe a handful of times... that mars in aries must be fun though. aren't you a july 1988?

@blue moon
this is my life lesson, methinks:

merc square NN

quote:
This square creates a situation in which the prevailing attitudes of the society conflict with the natives' mental expression and communication. They cannot project their ideas as they would like, and therefore tend to be misunderstood. Often they meet with social disapproval because they speak out at the wrong time or place. They may be in disagreement with surrounding social patterns.

Yeah, that would be me. And yeah, its pretty hard for me to keep an argument impersonal but my mercury's also in mutual reception to my virgo moon so as I've grown, changed, sort of evolved...its easier to keep an objective head.
And is it also a bit redundant that I have a gemini venus too? LOL I'm just full of mercury! GAAAH

nah, i'm full of mercury action too! be proud of it!

sometimes when i let someone look at my chart for the first time, they're surprised. usually people think i'm aquarius for some reason... not sure why... but when they see cancer sun, scorpio moon (in the 1st!) AND pisces mars they get all "OMG, you have such a watery chart! But you're so... not watery..." and it's the truth.

actually, i get into a lot of arguments with water mercury. i.e. i was supposed to meet up with a friend of mine but had to attend my friend's birthday party the same night. in the middle of planning how i would take the train down the city to meet up with my other friend, i got caught up at the birthday party and couldn't text them my plans. as soon as i found time, i had received a dozens texts all within a 20 minute time period. the first few were just texts saying "where are you?" but then the last few texts were "you're DITCHING ME AREN'T YOU!" after that, i could have texted back and said, "CALM THE EFF DOWN I AM BUSY AND HAVE BEEN TRAVELING CONSTANTLY FOR THE PAST TWO DAYS STRAIGHT AND AM CURRENTLY AT MY BEST FRIENDS BIRTHDAY PARTY WITH THEIR FAMILY THAT I AM TRYING TO DITCH FOR YOU!" But instead I chose to just not even speak to them. Actually, afterwards, we never spoke again...

i guess when people argue with me, i have to analyze whether or not it's a purely emotional reaction, for the sake of debate, or a good balance of both (always preferred). if it's personal, you can expect me to ignore you or to wait for you to calm down and speak to me in a less emotionally driven/more intellectually driven manner. whenever i start an actual debate (not just a silly little tiff with my brother or to show off a little), it's never a "fight" - pride is never on the line. it's just a debate: an exchange of ideas in a formal manner to reach a higher conclusion or truth. nothing more, nothing less. we're not there to clear out the past or stupid personal prejudices about each other. however, when emotions are involved, pride and a shift of power are always the "prize" and i don't want to play. most of the time...

Yeah, I can usually debate with no emotions attached, I think I can even do it with issues close to the heart if I give it a shot. Totally unlike a water mercury, I know, but having mercurial placements helps. I just HATE it when people accuse me of lacking objectivity just to shoot my credibility.....its just totally wrong to me and I end up just ignoring the person afterwards. LOL

Dulce Luna, you really are born in July 1988!

Actually, I don't really argue flawlessly, I feel the tension of the Square against my Mercury.

Gemini Merc loves the fun of debates, Pisces Mars can get emotionally charged.
Yet on the other hand, I usually make intuitive points, so that I try to appeal to the emotionality of people and get them to empathise with my points.

It can make me vague too. But hey, when the topics at hand are to do with the Sublime, Psychoanalysis, Lacan and the subjectivity of the human experience, how can one not venture into vagueness now and then! *bitter about the rigours of College*
