The Goddess of Health, the giver and preserver of well being whose function is to maintain a healthy relationship between body and soul.

HYGEIA: THE SOUL OF HEALTH
Divine well-being

In the ancient Greek sanctuaries of healing statues of Hygeia, the Goddess of health, reminded the pilgrim of the archetypal quest for wholeness and well being. Adorned with a simple garment Hygeia was often represented as youthful, radiant and smiling, attributes that are companions of health. Either she is holding or feeding a snake. Carrying a bowl of food or water Hygeia is generally represented tending the sacred snakes that were housed in the temples on the sanctuaries of healing. Sometimes she is presented holding a wreath of laurel, combing victory with health, or other plants known for their medicinal properties, a motif that links her to an ancient tradition of woman healers, herbalists and midwives.

Hygeia’s intimate relationship with the serpent recalls her link to the ancient Goddesses of healing and nature. Earth and Mother Goddesses were accompanied by serpents and the ancient belief was that they transmitted the power of healing and prophecy. As a symbol of both regeneration and divination serpents were sacred to the Goddess who gave them sanctuary in the bosom of the earth. Later the cult of sacred snake was adapted and serpents were included in the rituals at the sanctuaries that offered healing and spiritual guidance. The ancients also saw the sacred serpent dwelling in the body and when awakened it could offer illumination, vitality and the radiance of well being. As nature became less mysterious snakes became demonised, no longer transmitting the ancient wisdom of healing but transporting demonic and darker forces.

Hygeia nurtures and tends the snake revering its sacred power to rejuvenate and shed its old ways. She celebrates its dark chthonic force and recognises the divine mystery of illness and health. Like her ancient ancestors, Hygeia honoured the union between the natural and supernatural worlds knowing that health and well being depended on bringing them both into a cohesive whole. Goddess wisdom also knew that all of nature was animated by spirits which could be petitioned through magical and religious ritual in an attempt to restore equilibrium and well being. Hygeia is the modern surrogate of the ancient Goddesses who honour the great mystery of healing.

To the Greeks Hygeia personified health, that mysterious amalgam of well-being, wholeness and happiness. She emerged in the classical period when the cult of Asclepius became widespread and flourished throughout the Graeco-Roman world. Hygeia was mainly represented as the daughter of Asclepius, the Greek God of healing, although sometimes known as his wife. Her numerous statues equal those of Asclepius and in the cult of healing she was revered and equal to the God himself. Interestingly the popularity of temple medicine practiced at the sanctuaries of Asclepius paralleled the growth of rational medicine that had emerged through the teachings of Hippocrates. Hygeia stands at the crossroads of magico-religious healing rituals and contemporary medical practice, holding the tension between the two but allowing each to co-exist. She embraces wholistic healing in every manifestation as she is dedicated to the pursuit of health.
In the ancient community disease was portrayed as a possession by a demon, the intrusion of a spirit or the curse of a God. In the cult of Asclepius illness was seen to be more the call of the divine, the voice that echoed the split between body and spirit. It was the illness that called the pilgrim to the temple to restore equilibrium and well being. At the temple the patient would prepare for an encounter with the God often by fasting, bathing or meditating. Then the patient was escorted into the temple where they would lie down and fall into a deep sleep wherein the God would appear to them in a dream. Once contact with the God had been made through the inner process of the dream the patient would be restored to health. In the healing sanctuaries of Hygeia health was evoked through contact with the divine in the inner sanctuary of the soul. Yet synchronous with these practices were medical doctors who suggested that disease was a natural occurrence and not of the God’s making. Hence Hygeia eventually became associated with mental health and well being as rational medical doctors gained a stronghold on the health of the physical body.

When Hygeia is prominent natally, in synastry or in transit, we are reminded that health is the alignment of body and soul, heart and mind, outer success and inner peace. One at the expense of the other constellates dis-ease in the temperament which may manifest as a physical symptom, mental anguish or emotional pain. Hygeia is the personification of Health who calls us into the inner sanctuary of the soul to restore health and regain equilibrium. On a divinatory level Hygeia will be prominent when the healing of a situation is imperative. Rational healing is not the only answer. It must be accompanied by attending to the root cause, which ultimately is the illness in the soul. In a psychological sense Hygeia is soul of health, the urge to attend to psyche and its needs by nurturing our deeper urges and impulses. Feeding the snakes is a metaphor for nurturing the dark and mysterious aspects of the soul and attending to the unconscious. On an oracular level Hygeia heralds a period of health after we have attended to the deeper yearnings of the soul.

Feminine Wisdom: Health is forged through the alliance of the natural with the supernatural, the right brain with the left, the inner world with the outer, the serpent with the soul. Hygeia reminds us that health is an archetypal image embedded in the psyche. When the soul is not nourished or attended it speaks through illness and disease.

212 Medea (Greek):

Medea was a devotee of the Goddess Hecate, and one of the great sorceresses of the ancient world. She was the daughter of King Aeetes of Colchis, and the granddaughter of Helios, the sun God. Medea is known in most stories as an enchantress and is often depicted as being a priestess of the Goddess Hecate or a witch.

Medea Goddess of Ritual and Healing:

Medea, a princess of Colchis, was known as the 'wise one' for her skill of healing and proficiency at using drugs and herbs.
Medea's ancestors were linked to both the Sun and healing long before Apollo became the God associated with these realms. Helios, Medea's grandfather, was the Sun God of the old order, born a Titan's son.

AUNT CIRCE THE SORCERESS

Her aunt Circe was a sorceress, a magician, herbalist and healer who knew the ancient ways of plants and spices and how to cast spells.
Circe had trained Medea as a young woman in the arts of sorcery, magic and herbalism, teaching her how to mix potions, direct spells and rearrange matter. Medea was also a priestess in the temple of Hecate, honouring the Goddess of the dark night and magic. Hecate guided her instincts.
As a medical intuitive she knew the magical properties of herbs, the appropriate plants for healing, homeopathic tinctures and the process of preparing and administering these remedies in her caldron. As the surrogate of Hecate Medea knew the timing of the lunar cycle and how to draw down the moon when ritual and ceremony was needed.

BETRAYAL

However, Medea was unable to withstand the unholy alliance of the Goddesses Hera and Athena who petitioned Aphrodite to conspire with them and cause the princess to fall in love with Jason.
Medea became enchanted by Eros and fell in love with the Greek hero, who had come to Colchis to retrieve the Golden Fleece. Medea helped Jason achieve this impossible task with the help of special ointments, incantations and timing. Medea enabled Jason, her heroic/lover, to succeed at the trials set before him but in helping Jason be successful Medea had to betray her family and flee her homeland.
On their flight from Colchis Medea visited her aunt Circe who absolved her of her betrayal and eventually Medea arrived at Jason's birthplace, at the foot of Mount Pelion in Thessaly.

MAGIC SKILLS

When she arrived in her new homeland Medea used her great skill at the arts of magic and herbs to rejuvenate Jason's father but also used her sorcery to trick the king's daughters into unintentionally killing their father. To prepare for this procedure Medea disappeared for nine days collecting the special drugs and herbs that she needed.

As the Moon swelled she gave sacrifices to her Goddess Hecate, then used drugs to help Aeson, Jason's father, fall into a deep sleep. She then cut his throat to let the old blood run out, dismembered him, putting the pieces in a caldron with the liquid herbs she had prepared.

Jason's father emerged from the caldron rejuvenated, forty years younger. Medea's spell captured the daughters of Pelias, the wicked uncle of Jason who had usurped his rightful claim to the throne. The daughters also wished to rejuvenate their father and Medea said she would perform the task again. The daughters prepared their father by dismembering him; however, this time Medea did not put the herbs in the caldron and their father never emerged.

MURDERER

Having been responsible for the murder of the king Medea and Jason once again were forced to escape. While fleeing Medea's herbal bag broke open, spilling her drugs seeding the plains of Thessaly with an abundance of healing and magical herbs. As the first sorceress to perform rituals in Thessaly Medea is the seminal figure behind the region being known as 'the land of the witches'. Her myth intimates that she introduced woman's herbal knowledge from Asia Minor into Greece.

When Medea is prominent in a birth chart she reveals the need to explore the ancient feminine traditions of herbalism, witchcraft and magic ritual. Intuitively we know the natural cycle of the body and what it needs to be well.

Medea reminds us to honour the ancient custom of relating to the plant world, the wisdom of nature and the powerful healing and transforming properties embedded in the natural world.

Instinctually the witch is the impulse that draws us to remedies and potions at the right time and is the urge to create ritual and ceremony to evoke the powers of the Goddess.

2878 Panacea (Greek): Goddess of cures. The “cure-all,” remedies. All types of cures, from conventional to alternative.

In Greek mythology, Panacea was the goddess of healing. She was the daughter of Asclepius, god of medicine, and the granddaughter of Apollo, god of healing (among other things).

Panacea and her five sisters each performed a facet of Apollo's art: Panacea was the goddess of cures, Iaso was the goddess of recuperation, Hygieia was the goddess of disease prevention, Aceso was the goddess of recovery, Meditrina was the goddess of longevity, and Aglaea was the goddess of natural beauty.

Panacea also had four brothers - Podaleirus, one of the two kings of Tricca, who had a flair for diagnostics, and Machaon, the other king of Tricca, who was a master surgeon (these two took part in the Trojan War until Machaon was killed by Penthesilea, queen of the Amazons); Telesphoros, who devoted his life to serving Asclepius; and Aratus, her stepbrother, who was a Greek hero and the patron/liberator of Sicyon.

Panacea was said to have a poultice or potion with which she healed the sick. This brought about the concept of the panacea in medicine. "Panacea" is also the term for heal-all herbs.

1027 Aescualpia (Asklepios or Askalaphus) (Greek): God of healing.

Son of Apollon and Koronis (Coronis).
Asklepios was a great healer and the father of two Greek soldiers and healers, Makhaon and Podaleirios.
His mother, Koronis, evoked the wrath of Apollon and he killed her; Asklepios was placed in the care of the Chiron, where he learned the art of healing.

When Asklepios restored life to Hippolytus at the request of Artemis, Zeus was enraged and killed Asklepios with a thunderbolt.
As the son of Apollon, Asklepios became known as the ancient Greek god of medicine and healing; several shrines were established in honor of Asklepios including one in Athens and the city of Epidauros; patients would sleep in the temple and either they would be cured in the night or they would have dreams that would indicate the correct treatment for their ailments.
The name, Asklepios, may also rendered as Asklepius, Asclepius, Aeskulapius or Aesculapius.

Chiron was the wounded healer, or the healer who wounds. His mode of healing works to bring up the hidden issues, overcome denial, offer penance, then go on in greatness. He was one of the immortals, with a God as a father who rejected the son. The mother disowned him because of his ugliness (half man, half horse). With no place to go, Chiron became an avid learner studying with the great ones, devouring all knowledge. Accidentally wounded at an event using ceremonial wine unceremoniously, his immortality became a liability as the healer could not heal his own wound. He persisted in life feeling pain that he, the healer, could not heal. His pain includes parental rejection, unworthiness and in today's terms, soul loss.

Chiron opted to end the eternal pain at all costs. He took a voluntary task in the underworld, coming out with the ability to ascend to the heavens as granted by Zeus (Jupiter). He represents being able to take on healing directly, clearly and intently. He symbolizes our willingness to go into the caves of consciousness and examine our nature. He grieves, then heals. This powerful healer comes before us encouraging the clearing of all things within our psyche. After this occurs the path opens for our spirits to fully fuse with our physical being.

For those people feeling rejected by parents and carrying that banner throughout life, relief is near. Should you be sensing wounds that simply will not leave no matter what is done, a solution stands near. And if feelings of displacement, alienation and disconnection prevail within yourself, the healer has arrived. With the healer, Chiron, the way clears for a stronger sense of self with spirit invested in body. This sense of self works to reestablish healthy relationships with others.

* A common consense appears to be that Chiron is connected with topics like wounding, illness, healing, shamanism and holism. To my understanding Chiron seems especially connected to turning points in life through the experience of illness, pain, accidents and woundings of any kind, be it physical or psychological. During this events and crises Chiron appears to "investigate" or even "x-ray" our soul and personality to reveal its basic structure with all its deficiencies. Often this marks the beginning of a transformation process, where we cannot get rid of the fatigue but can learn to live with it and develop a higher level of consciousness. In contrary to Saturn, which normally is more connected with patient enduring of "fortune" and "fate" and with the tenacious working towards healing, Chiron tries to give us more inner freedom and understanding for our suffering with the help of a new consciousness and worldview. Chironic therapies are more directed to find the "inner key" for the healing process, which finally helps us to understand the deeper meaning and psychological roots of the painful symptoms and which also help us to rid ourselves from frustration, which often accompanies crises and illnesses. With this we gain an inner relief and relaxation, which accelerates the healing process without deny (which is often the case with Uranus) or fatalistic resignation and depression (Saturn).

* Chironic humour: tendency to sarcasm (first pointed out by the German astrologer Hans-Jürgen Walter in an article about Monty Python). Opens us for the curiosities, unusual point of views, hidden truths and new horizons and dimensions, which are often very paradox and hard to understand for our intellect and ratio by the way. Chiron appears to give us a new level of awareness above earthly and material matters. So it prepares us in some way for Uranus and the outer trans-Saturnian realm in common. Chiron gives us the first glimpse what could be beyond the Saturnian boundaries although we feel often perplexed and disturbed, sometimes also amused.

* Some problematic Chiron: resignated indifference, apathy, agony, emptiness, absence of any humour. Liz Greene's experience is that Chiron is often connected with bitterness: we feel responsible for things we cannot be responsible, similar to the endless world-weariness of Pisces.

* Chiron opens us a door or floodgate through which uncontrollable energies, emotions, invades and overwhelm us (also in synastry, Zane Stein wrote about it)

* Chironic transformations: to find a balance between physical vulnerability and the independence and superiority of the spiritual higher self.

* Confrontation with paradoxes: the "Koan"-effect. Chiron is referring to trans-Saturnian realms, which are confusing us. For example: the effect of synchronicity (as C.G. Jung described so profoundly) of different levels and times (e.g. relativity theory). Time is just another dimension, nothing absolute, like it is for Saturn. A different but also important topic is Chiros vs. Chronos.

* Two sides of the same coin: the healing arts and the arts of war. Everything, which can heal can also kill, it just depends on the dosis, so again we have a connection to the balance-theme (Libra).

* Chiron as a teacher: real and deep mediation of knowledge and experience is only possible from person to person, like a Kabbala, in an intimate and loving relationship between teacher and pupil. The chironic relationship is initiating us into something. It is located exactly in the middle between respect, authority, tradition, high esteem (Saturn) and parity, openess, equality, unconventionality (Uranus) and is often vulnerable and fragile. Real learning is to gain a new consciousness in the moment when we are touched and when something resonates in us.
Music, culture and the arts: healing is often possible only through creative doing, for example in the arts, painting therapy, music therapy ... To free oneself from reality's boundaries through unusual angles, to find access to hidden dimensions and deeper knowledge. The arts on the other hand often give us a feeling for the eternity and holistic point of view of mankind, nature and life.

* To encounter and meet people who are key person for our life, but still can be difficult and imperfect personalities.

* There is a question as to whether Chiron has a deeper connection to Libra: the balance theme and to be in the domicile there, where Saturn is only in its exaltation, Capricorn, which is the domicile of Saturn, has a square to Libra, which could reflect the problematic relationship between the mythological Chiron and its father, Chronos.

* Darrelyn Gunzburg: "The Chironic person has a hard time letting go of old beliefs and, hence, may try to reason away grief. This griefs needs the help of another to be healed."

Chiron has also been described as the Rainbow Bridge....the link between the Inner and Outer Planets and it is the identification of the Chironian issues in ones life that assists with the linking between the Inner and Outer Planets and thus the integration of the Soul and Personality .

In psychological terms, Chiron is the Inner Teacher to whom we owe our allegiance. The cluster of astrological ingredients surrounding it may symbolise the tests, disciplines and ordeals which unfold under the tutelage of this Inner Teacher, whose path is Life itself, whether or not this includes following a particular spiritual tradition. Major crises of learning experiences can be reflected by any factor in the chart, but they are likely to be interpreted and processed in a manner congruent with the Chiron configuration. We also have to remember that Chiron represents the Wound/The Wounder/The Healer in our chart.

At present Chiron’s themes in the lives of individuals can be clearly observed to operate most strongly through the Mutable Cross, especially Sagittarius (9th) and Virgo (6th).

Chiron's placement in signs where it is closer to or within the orbit of Saturn stresses its more practical and personal side; while its placement in signs where it is closer to the orbit of Uranus emphasises its more mental and transpersonal side.

When within the orbit of Saturn, Chiron confers the strongest centering in the self; a sense of being unprotected by boundaries from the outside world; sensitivity to the integrated oneness of the universe; a tendency to construct artificial boundaries and defence structures such as intellectualisation, immersion in the collective, or pushing oneself outwards into society, in order to compensate for this insecurity; a tendency to project parental filters onto the transpersonal or divine realm; and sometimes an inclination, whether overtly or subtly, to make demands of others, and to feel the need to be the centre of attention.

When at the orbit of Saturn, Chiron confers an equal connection with the inner (personal) and outer (transpersonal) realms of existence, bringing confusion as to whether one is responding to the outside world or it is responding to oneself. It confers at once the capability to rapidly translate internal changes into outward realities; and a strong intuitive impressionability in response to changes in the outside world.

When outside the orbit of Saturn, Chiron brings a lack of centering in the self, bringing a relative freedom from ego, together with a feeling of having sustained a fundamental loss of some facet of the self or the awareness thereof; the need to regain what is lost; the seeking of learning and development through connection with and involved activity in the outside world; and the aptitude for concretising whatever inspirations and discoveries are made on that journey. If moving towards aphelion (its furthest distance from the Sun), Chiron outside the orbit of Saturn brings greater social involvement. If moving towards perihelion (its closest distance to the Sun), Chiron outside the orbit of Saturn focuses more on the quest for inner rediscovery.

Furthermore, whatever its distance at the moment of birth, if natal Chiron is approaching perihelion, the life direction is shown to favour the outward expression of the existing personal world, while if it is approaching aphelion it favours the intake of transpersonal or spiritual energies.

Aspects to Chiron connect the significations of the aspected planet to an intuitive higher understanding. Harmonious aspects promote the personal search for uniqueness, rewarding it, while inharonious ones manifest as an apparent rejection and inhibition of the expression of the personal vision, mostly stemming from internal conflict and the seeking to present outwardly one's originality and differences from others (in manners and areas indicated by the sign and house placement of Chiron), which frequently manifests antagonistically and irritatingly to others, who therefore show resistance. Afflictions to Chiron can also show limitations to understanding; overreliance on authority or dogma; self-doubt; or spiritual disquiet.

Transits of Chiron manifest in the breaking of rules; connections with the expectations of parents or authorities; delays and restrictions beleaguing desired life changes; interactions with mentors; focusing on issues of healing and being healed; and turning points in life.

In synastry, Chiron promotes exchanges of an educational and healing nature.

Working with the personal issues that Chiron represents in our chart provides a means of grounding ourselves in our humanity and also defining our unique contribution to this transition in which we are all participating in at this time. When the Age of Aquarius is more established perhaps it will then be seen to work through the Fixed Cross, possibly ruling Scorpio and being exalted in Leo.

Some will be more sensitive to Chiron’s energies than others. If there are one or more of the conditions below, Chiron may be considered focal in a particular chart; in this person’s life Chironian themes may be dominant and will be strongly activated when any outer planet transits part of the Chiron configuration:

- Chiron conjunct any of the Angles

- Chiron conjunct or square the Moons Nodes

- Chiron aspecting many planets, especially if the Sun, Moon and/or Asc Ruler are among them

- Chiron focal according to the shape of the chart, such as handle of a "bucket shaped chart", or as the leading planet of a "bowl shaped" chart, or in the middle of a stellium, or in hard aspect to the midpoint of an empty hemisphere or quadrant.

The image of Chiron’s Cave, the Chironian, has been suggested for the house in which Chiron is found. This evocative image certainly seems applicable, in that by house, Chiron focuses on those areas where we may feel pain and encounter difficulties, as well as where we seek to express our unique individuality. We may avoid "coming out into the light" of this area of life experience, hiding ourselves away in pain, like Chiron with his incurable wound; we may only be able to enter this domain of life in a supercharged or heroic manner, like Chiron emerging as the Healer and Mentor of Heroes.

Another image for Chiron’s house position is taken from Buddhism where we consider Chiron to be the Inner Teacher, its house and sign often describe important lessons which we are here to learn. These lessons represent the inner goal of the journey, rather than anything external, and involve the Middle Path or ‘right way’. This is not ‘right’ as opposed to ‘wrong’ but rather than which is ‘appropriate’ in order for us to fulfill our individual dharma - our realisation of Universal law and our part in the totality of existence.

Before the Middle Path is found and appreciated, Chiron tends to manifest in a wounded "all or nothing" way. With maturity and surrender, however, a feeling of rightness may come, often having means or overtones of connection with the dharma, with some context larger than ourselves; this is Chiron's gift to us....

In addition, planets aspecting Chiron here represent inner and outer forces with which we must contend, lest they pull us away from the dharma.

Where Chiron is in your chart is where you can’t accept a garden-variety experience of what your culture offers. You’ll have to recognize that would be wounding for you.
The house and sign position of Chiron show several things:

It is an indicator of where we have problems that tend to keep recurring, in one form or another, throughout our lives. Amateur astrologers frequently upset people by telling them something like, "Oh, this is where you're wounded and it will never go away!" It is important to remember that every indicator in the horoscope, including this one, has a positive (as well of a negative) side, and the first thing to remember is: As with any other horoscope factor, Chiron has a positive as well as a negative side. For one thing, it shows where we may teach and help others. And, yes, Chiron problems can be dealt with and solved. It shows where we can do things better for others than we can for ourselves. Chiron shows where we can have an affinity for teaching, but, ironically, that is where we can teach others how to do things better than we can do them ourselves. This can be maddening if that happens to be an area in which we want to excel.

The descriptions of Chiron placements and aspect sometimes look suspiciously like those for Saturn. Both seem to indicate problems and obstacles that need to be overcome. Why should this be, and what, if anything, is the difference between the two? Saturn shows our fears. It is the area where we tend to suffer what is called "bad luck." As a result, this is the area where our defenses are up, where we feel cautious, and where we can get stuck. Frequently, we can get to work here and make the area that was our weak point a tower of strength instead. Chiron's orbit actually crosses the orbit of Saturn, so it should come as no surprise that are some similarities in the effect it has on us. But Chiron's orbit crosses the orbit as Uranus as well. Wherever Saturn is, we have to work long and hard to solve the problems. With Chiron, the problems must also be dealt with by insight (Uranus). The catch is that if we don't follow up these insights with more work (Saturn) the problems come back.

The house position shows the particular area of our life where these things will manifest. The sign position shows how they tend to work out. What follows is a brief introduction to Chiron in the horoscope.

Chiron in the Signs:

Chiron in Aries: Aries is the sign of selfhood and with Chiron here the sense of self may be weakened. Melanie Reinhart in "Chiron and the Healing Journey" says that sometimes the person feels as if they don't exist and have to take their sense of identity from others. I mentioned this to a friend who had Chiron in Aries opposing her Ascendant, and she said that it was true for her. She frequently felt that way. At the time, she was on her third marriage (there was also one live-in relationship), as she couldn't bear to be alone. Having a partner (opposition to the Ascendant) was the way she dealt with that feeling of non-being.

Chiron in Taurus: Taurus is the sign of money and resources and it shows our ability to possess things. It also shows what we instinctively value, including ourselves. This is the sign that gives us our gut level sense of self-worth. Chiron here can give us a miser's urge to hold on to every penny while denying ourselves any of life's pleasures, or a rejection of "those low, materialistic values" and, consequently, a life of poverty. And guess what? Deep down inside, both are the same. They both deny themselves pleasure and enjoyment because they don't value themselves. Of course, as always with Chiron, there is the ability to give good advise to everyone else concerning their material needs and sense of self worth. People with Chiron in Taurus have to learn how to enjoy the basic physical pleasures of life. They won't be able to do this, however, until they deal with their damaged sense of self-worth.

Chiron in Gemini: Gemini is communications. Those with Chiron here may talk compulsively, or, on the other hand, seldom speak. Both were, most likely, never listened to as children. The only difference is one keeps trying while the other gave up. This sounds something like Chiron in the third house, and, of course, there are similarities. Remember though, that the sign position shows how something acts while the house position shows where in your life it will manifest. Let's take a look at an example. Suppose you have two horoscopes in front of you. One has Chiron in Taurus in the 3rd house. The other has Chiron in Gemini in the 2nd house. Yes, there are similarities. You could say that both will spend a lot of time talking about money, possessions, and values. Both could be quite good at giving financial advice. What's the difference? The one with the Taurus Chiron in the 3rd house will tend to talk in a slower, methodical, and more practical way because that's how Taurus influences function. They would also tend to give financial advice that is conservative and rock solid. The person with Chiron in Gemini in the 2nd house, by contrast, could just as easily talk about trivial financial matters. Or they may constantly shift from one financial topic to another. They would be more likely to give financial advice that is based on the latest up to date information (or the latest fad). It is always good to keep in mind the difference between where a planet works and how.

Chiron in Cancer: The superficial interpretation would be that there were childhood troubles with the mother. Brilliant deduction. Hey, who didn't have some childhood problems with both parents? The real key here is how we dealt with it. The positive part of Chiron in Cancer is that you can be very nurturing. This is a very good position for therapists and caregivers of any sort. The negative side is that you find it difficult to nurture yourself or let others nurture you. Everybody has some degree of difficulty in growing up and severing that psychological umbilical cord with mama. Chiron in Cancer people tend to take a longer time than most to do the job. Once you do this, though, and learn to accept as well as give nurturing, you should be fine. So stop whining and complaining.

Chiron in Leo: Chiron in Leo people have the ability to help others with their creativity. They could make good art teachers or art therapists. On the negative side, it could be an indicator that, as children, their creativity was either stifled or over stimulated. Some were blocked or ridiculed, ("Are you kidding? You'll never be a professional baseball player, or musician, or artist") while others were pushed by ambitious parents who liked to live through the child ("Hey, come to the Little League game and watch my kid play third base" or "My child is starring in the school play today"). Children may react by either trying extra hard to please Mommy and Daddy (even if they don't like their particular creative field) or they will shut down and stifle their own creative urge. The treatment for these Chiron problems is to get in touch with your own inner creative child again and relearn how to create for fun.

Chiron in Virgo: Virgo in our horoscope shows where we can best deal with details, and how we deal with matters of health and general well being. Chiron placed here can produce a person who is excessively critical, obsessed with insignificant details, and cleanliness. Conversely, they may simply give up the struggle and be absolutely horrible when it comes to organizing, doing a decent job, or keeping clean. Hypochondria is also a possibility, but you could also get a person who neglects their own health while giving excellent advise about it to everyone else. Perhaps there was excessive criticism in their childhood.

Chiron in Libra: Relationships are affected by this placement. Libra shows the place in our life where we need (and usually want) to cooperate. With Chiron placed here, one possibility is that we could shun any cooperation and isolate ourselves (shades of the opposite sign, Aries). Another possibility is a partner who manages to open up our old psychological wounds (or causes some new ones). Conversely, the person with this placement could be the one to open other people's old wounds. Lots of times, Chiron in Libra people will desperately want a partner, but once they get one, they will drive them away.

Chiron in Scorpio: The issue here is power. Those with Chiron in Scorpio may fear their own power and try to suppress it. Conversely, they may feel powerless and try to cover this up by acting strong (even to the point of being a bully). Sex is only one way this may work out, and yes, having compulsive sex is one possibility. Another is an avoidance of sex because it's too "dangerous" (they may try to dominate me). This would be a perfect placement for a sex therapist who can help everyone else with their sexual problems but cannot help themselves. Inheritance matters may also be a sore point. Problems and upsets would tend to come with it.

Chiron in Sagittarius: Sagittarius has to do with our ability to get the "big picture" and our ability to judge. The negative side of the sign is that it may show where we do not listen to anyone else because we already "understand" it all. For instance, if Chiron is in Sagittarius in the 2nd house (money) we may not listen to financial advice from others. We would be too busy giving our own. Always double-check any advice given to you by someone with Chiron in Sagittarius, especially if they claim to be an expert on the subject. Those with this Chiron placement who seem to be more modest and don't try to push their views on you are more likely to be the ones who give good advice.

Chiron in Capricorn: Capricorn has to do with our ability to control and organize. Chiron here can make you over organized and compulsively controlling. Conversely, there could be rebellion against being organized at all. As always, Chiron seems to do best when aimed outward, toward others. This is a good placement for an efficiency expert, or for someone whose career involves helping others organize things.

Chiron in Aquarius: This can be a sort of Svengali placement. You may have a genius for helping other people express their genius. Aquarius (being an air sign) rules ideas. Its specialty is new, far-out, revolutionary, shocking, and bizarre ideas, the ones that society hasn't caught up with yet. As always with Chiron, someone with this placement may be devoted totally to radical, new systems of thought, or reject them entirely. In both cases, they may not even consider other points of view. The solution lies in remembering that Chiron serves as a bridge between Saturn (everything old and conservative) and Uranus (out with the old, in with the new, and do it damn fast). Don't stick blindly with the old, but don't throw it out before you think about it first. Look for a way to blend the old with the new and you will make a start to dealing with your Chiron in Aquarius.

Chiron in Pisces: If you have this placement, make an extra effort to get rid of your unearned guilt. And please don't wander the world looking for people to "save," at least not until you have saved yourself first. Be careful of a tendency to play the "victim" yourself (or, more likely, to BE the victim). You do have the ability, however, to help everyone else be more imaginative and creative. In fact, doing that could be an excellent antidote for dealing with the negative side of this placement.

Chiron in the Houses:

Chiron in the 1st: Learning appropriate initiative or action.
With Chiron in the 1st, the wounding can occur early in life. For instance, one person with this placement was born with a condition commonly called 'brittle bones'. Because of her delicate state, the doctors advised her mother that the child should not be picked up or held, and in this way, as an infant, she was deprived of a necessary physical solace and closeness. Other placements in her chart indicate a very powerful will, and she bravely worked within the limitations of her handicap to become strong and self-sufficient.
Another example is an artist born with Chiron in Sagittarius in the 1st house conjunct the Ascendant. Severely stricken with an atrophying disease of the nervous system, he nonetheless used what strength he had to teach painting to young people. Although Chiron chose to die, he was rewarded by the Gods for his good work by being made part of a constellation in the heavens for all to see for all eternity. Similarly, although this man died while still in his early thirties, like the immortal Chiron his memory and influence live on through his paintings and the future artwork of those he taught. Both these people personify the wounded-healer/teacher nature of Chiron and serve as a source of inspiration not only for disabled individuals but also for many of the able-bodied people who have known them.
In her study of the charts of sixty-nine healers/therapists Eve Jackson found that eleven of these had Chiron in the 1st.

Chiron in the 1st: “The more I become the more I have to give” is a good way to describe Chiron in the 1st house. With Chiron in the 1st you must learn to grow and evolve by finding a path to personal growth which benefits not only the self, but also others at the same time.

Chiron in the 1st house: Chiron here can make you like a knight in shining armor, always ready to fight for the underdog. Usually, while you are doing this, you are neglecting yourself. You could also be a wise councilor (especially in health matters) but you seem to have trouble taking your own advice. A 1st house Chiron can be a gifted teacher, and, of course, you can teach others how to do something better than you can do it yourself. A neat trick to get around this: Give yourself advice as if you were someone else. Then maybe you will take it.

Chiron in the 2nd: Learning appropriate values, or use of resources.
The ability Chiron had to apply spiritual, philosophical and ethical insights to everyday life and practical matters is highlighted with Chiron in the 2nd. Elisabeth Kubler-Ross, whose pioneering work in the field of death and dying has been of practical use to both dying people and their families, was born with Chiron in Taurus in the 2nd. Her work came to the fore just as Chiron was returning to its own place in her chart (Chiron's cycle is roughly 50 years).
I have also seen Chiron in the 2nd in the chart of two people who suffered great pain through bankruptcy and financial collapse, and yet used the experience to broaden their philosophical and psychological understanding of life and themselves.

Chiron in the 2nd: This placement can represent issues with security and money. With Chiron in the 2nd, there may be a constant chase for security and/or for more than what one has. Those with Chiron have to get outside the cultural attitude - that security is a defense posture and that security is something we never get - in order to feel connected to what makes you feel secure. A walk out in nature is a good way to feel the life force around you and feel a deeper sense of security.

Chiron in the 2nd house: Chiron teaches and gives advise. The 2nd house is money, possessions, and values. You can show other people how to take care of their money better than you take care of your own. In fact, your own finances could be a mess. Sometimes, this placement can make for a miser, but the money collected never brings any pleasure or get rid of the inner fear that there will be no resources. Most likely, this is because the person has a low sense of self-worth and feels that they don't really deserve any money or possessions. In other cases, they may squander or give away what they have for the same reason. It is important to remember that if there are problems with money or possessions, that these are most likely not the real issue. The sense of self-worth is the key here.

Chiron in the 3rd: Learning appropriate communication, thought and speech.
A woman who cured herself of cancer using special diets and visualization techniques is now writing and distributing information about combating the illness in these ways: she has Chiron in Sagittarius in the 3rd house of communication. I have observed this placement in the charts of other people who write on the subject of medicine and healing.
Their wounding may come during adolescence and the growing-up years. Some with this placement may have difficulty fitting into the early schooling situation or have learning or speech difficulties. In a few cases, those with Chiron here had brothers or sisters who were ill or afflicted in some way, and their formative years were marked by the need to be sensitive to their sibling's condition.

Chiron in the 3rd: The way you use your mind and gather information. Where do you get your information – from tv, the internet, movies, pop culture? “You are what you think, you become what you once thought.” Another motto for Chiron in the 3rd: “Think as if all your thoughts where written across the sky for all to read.”

Chiron in the 3rd house: If you don't have any brothers or sisters, you may experience this Chiron placement as a lack, a hole in your life. If you do, then there could be continual problems with at least one sibling. This is a good placement for a voice coach or speech therapist. It is likely that you will be able to teach others to speak better than you do. This placement tends to increase the chance of communication problems of one sort or another. No, it does not guarantee a speech defect. Instead, there could be problems with making oneself understood. In some cases, this could indicate that one wasn't listened to as a child. That could trigger a lifelong quest to "make others listen to me." However, no matter how much they do, there is frequently a feeling that "they are still not listening." The problem is that no matter how much they listen to you now, it doesn't get rid of the pain you felt in childhood when they didn't. Mercury/Chiron stress aspects are likely to produce the same result. Recognizing this is a first step to leaving the pain behind.

Chiron in the 4th: Learning appropriate emotional bonds and attitude to family.
If the 4th house is taken to be the father, then he may carry the Chiron projection. The child with this placement may be exceptionally sensitive to his wounds, or view the father as a kind of teacher or mentor. One woman I know with Sun conjunct Chiron in the 4th was, as a young girl, abandoned by her father shortly after her mother died of cancer. This early rejection contributed to her receptivity to the pain, needs and feelings of other people.
It is possible that in the later years of life, those with this placement may develop a latent interest in various forms of healing.

Chiron in the 4th: With this placement, you must find your place on the planet and your connection to Earth. The environment, climate, and vegetation must work together harmoniously, and must be a sacred place for you.

Chiron in the 4th house: Well, just about everyone had some trouble or other in childhood with their parents. Chiron in the 4th house will just make it a little more noticeable. The home itself would tend to be an issue here. Perhaps one is so busy outside the home that they cannot spend much time there, or their work forces them to travel and be away frequently. The father is more likely to have been chronically ill, away from home, or emotionally unavailable. Perhaps there could be a "don't feel at home anywhere" attitude. Chiron in the 4th house might work out in other ways as well. This placement could conceivably show a person who can help everyone else with their home, while their own place is a wreck.

Chiron in the 5th: Learning appropriate self expression and creativity.
The 5th house is associated with children and young people, and those with this placement could serve as teachers to the young. One woman with Chiron here overcame heroin addiction and now works helping adolescents with drug problems.
It has already been mentioned that Chiron's house placement may show where our earthly physical drives and desires could conflict with pulls towards something transcendent, pure and divine. I did a chart for a very religious man with Chiron in the 5th who was tortured by sexual desires for pubescent girls and boys. Through psychotherapy and prayer, he has successfully transmuted these urges into constructive channels and expresses his love of children by working as a tutor and counsellor for `problem' adolescents.
Prince Charles is born with Chiron conjunct his Sun in the 5th house of creative self-expression. Eve Jackson quotes from an interview he gave: `Ever since I was a child, I've been interested in medical matters and in the business of healing — I've always wished I could heal: In recent years he has expressed his wholehearted support and enthusiasm (5th house) for holistic medicine.

Chiron in the 5th: This placement indicates being tied to your creativity and/or children. It is important to live a life born out of the heart, to access that creativity by simply jumping into the house energy. You will find that the way culture defines fun won’t fit. Find a higher path in dealing with creativity and/or children than the cultural norm.

Chiron in the 5th house: If you need romantic advice, go to someone who has Chiron in the 5th house. Please don't ask them about their own love life, as that would embarrass them. You can also go to people who have this placement for advise on children, sports and games, gambling, and the stock market. Realistically, one does have to look at the rest of the chart because, after all, about one out of twelve people have this Chiron. And you wouldn't, of course, ask a five-year old who had it for advise. But this placement is generally good for counseling in those areas. Just remember to do as they say, but don't do as they do. Chiron in the 5th house can make for folks who are great coaches, helping players to perform better than they themselves could. It could also show people who are great with kids, but either have chronic troubles with their own, or have none of their own. This can be an indicator that you can train your children to be happier and more successful than you ever could. Watch out though. If Chiron is afflicted, you will drive your kids to succeed in the areas that you would have liked to succeed in but that they don't really like at all. The most frustrating one is the great lover who can always satisfy their partner better than they themselves could be satisfied.

Chiron in the 6th: Learning appropriate form of service to others, and respect for the body.
To some degree, Chiron suffered by being trapped in a body he didn't like. I have seen this placement in the charts of a few people who felt uncomfortable or limited within the physical body. One was an unusually tall woman and another a rather short man. However, the kind of psychological adjustments that they had to make contributed to their sensitivity and understanding of the pain of other people. The man in question has worked extensively and productively with handicapped people of all ages.
Recalling Chiron's holistic approach to medicine, this placement shows up frequently in the charts I have seen of therapists who work with the body — those who use neo-Reichian techniques, massage, and herbal remedies, etc.
Since Chiron was so adept in the art of survival skills, it is likely that those with Chiron in the 6th have the potential to master practical crafts such as cooking, sewing or other kinds of useful handiwork.

Chiron in the 6th: This placement indicates attitudes around health, culture and diet. We are in a culture that doesn’t understand food and its relationship to health. Probably the “cultural” diet doesn’t work for you and would need to seek a new diet that would help your spiritual quest.

Chiron in the 6th house: You can always help (or teach) co-workers do the job better than you can do it. Perhaps you are a whiz at helping everyone else get healthy (the 6th house rules health) while you still smoke and eat junk food. Learn to take care of yourself every now and then. Sometimes it works out in the opposite fashion. Someone with a 6th house Chiron might demand that everyone else serve them, and they are usually never satisfied. Of course, obviously, this causes problems too. And oh yes, let us not forget the tendency toward eating disorders. This can also manifest as strange likes and dislikes in the food department.

Chiron in the 7th: Learning appropriate relationships.
With this placement, it is possible that the nature of Chiron could be projected onto the partner, who might be seen as obviously wounded, either physically or psychologically. Or it may be that the partner is viewed as a kind of teacher or wise mentor. Conversely, those with Chiron here could act as a teacher to another person.
Chiron's feeling of rejection can come through a relationship if this planet is placed in the 7th. The hurt of a painful separation from a loved one may bring up deep wounds which soften, sensitize and transform even the most hard-hearted people. Or they could experience frustration at the discrepancy between an idealized notion of love and the reality before them.

Chiron in the 7th: This placement indicates the type of relationships that culture says should work for you – that is your wound. Your relationships need to have a higher dimension, have a quest. The relationship would be a vehicle of consciousness growth.

Chiron in the 7th house: This one might spend all of their time taking care of a partner who has some debility. It is also someone who gives great advise on marriage, while their own marriage is on the rocks (or they might not even be married). This can work for business partnerships as well. You can take great care of a partner and teach them how to do the business better than you ever could. Watch out that they don't dump you as soon as they learn all that they can from you.

Chiron in the 8th: Learning appropriate attitude to death and sexuality.
Those with Chiron in the 8th may be sensitive to sexual rejection, or feel inadequate or confused about their sexual identity. Strong libidinal drives could conflict with their more spiritual or religious inclinations.
It is likely that they are extremely receptive to any painful undercurrents in the atmosphere, and possess latent healing abilities which they should be encouraged to develop. Some may be able to teach others about the deeper mysteries or subtle dimensions of life. The 8th house is associated with death, and those with this placement may want to study the example of the famous centaur who chose death with peace and equanimity.

Chiron in the 8th: This placement indicates the type of intimacy that culture offers would not be satisfying. You need a deeper type of intimacy, sacred sexuality, tantric sexuality.

Chiron in the 8th house: What a great sex therapist you can be. A more likely scenario is that you have the ability to bring out the sexual best in a romantic partner, while giving yourself the short end of the stick (no pun intended). But the 8th house rules more than sex. You could also get stuck with taking care of partnership resources because "you're so good at it," or, conversely, keep getting partners who want to "take care" of it and do you out of your fair share. Perhaps you become too dependent on money from others for support, or too much of what you earn goes to support others. You might tend to accept other people's values (your family, group or society) too readily. One other thing. The myth of Chiron can actually come alive with this placement. You could have a talent for healing or rehabilitating others, but not yourself.

Chiron in the 9th: Learning appropriate attitude to possibilities.
The 9th house will highlight Chiron's ability to take intuitive and innovative insights and apply these in a practical manner. They are likely to make very capable teachers. The highly respected and deep-thinking astrologer John Addey was born with Chiron in Aries in the 9th house conjunct the Midheaven. Crippled with an incurable form of rheumatism, he worked as a teacher for disabled people. Furthermore, he once remarked that he would have probably been all too happy to spend his days between golf and horses had it not been for his illness which forced him to stay still for a moment and reflect on life. His wound impelled him to turn his attention to the 9th house matters of philosophy and astrology. With the clarity and finesse of the mythological Chiron, Addey related the abstract and theoretical concept of harmonics in a practical way to chart analysis.

Chiron in the 9th: This placement indicates the need to go beyond the education, philosophy and spiritual quest of your culture. Similar to Chiron in the 12th, it is important for you to not accept the political and religious views you grew up with and instead find your own path: your path and quest involves the seeking of something else, something higher.

Chiron in the 9th house: Perfect for a travel agent who sends everyone else on fantastic trips while they are stuck in the office doing the booking, or a publisher or writing teacher who gets everyone else's books before the public, while secretly longing to write and publish their own. Parents with this placement of Chiron frequently tend to push their children to pursue the higher education that they themselves never had a chance to get. Negatively, this could mean forcing them into studying what the parents wished that they had studied, and not what the kids really want. There could also be jealousy here (Saturn) and the parents could actually take steps to deprive their children of higher education.
The 9th house also rules religion. Sometimes this leads to thinking that the fanatic pursuit of some religious doctrine will cure all of one's inner wounds. This could also manifest as obsessive travel or study.

Chiron in the 10th: Learning appropriate vocation and participation in society.
Any planet in the 10th will be linked to career and profession. Of the sixty-nine charts of healers /therapists EveJackson studied, fifteen of these had Chiron in the 10th. In short, the person's function in the world could well reflect the healing qualities of the Greek Chiron. Nevertheless, Chiron was unsure where he fitted in — he was half divine and half animal, and those with Chiron here may be uncertain of how they are to fit into society, of the role they are meant to play in the collective scheme of things.
A 10th house Chiron may also describe a feeling of rejection by the mother, and the consequent psychological pain and growth that stems from such an experience. It is also possible that the mother might have carried the Chiron projection — she was seen as wounded or afflicted in some way or conversely mirrored Chiron's healing and philosophical nature.

Chiron in the 10th: The Tenth House is the home of the soul's desire. It's the place where we align purpose and action. Put simply, it's what we most want to be when we grow up, because being "that" will answer a calling deep within. This longing could include the need for material success, but it could just as easily stir a desire for spiritual accomplishment. At times, you might find yourself at a career crossroads. People with Chiron in the 10th often inspire other people. When you push the limits for yourself, it’s possible that you are also setting the bar a little higher for others.

Chiron in the 10th house: Career and public prestige are the battlegrounds with this placement of Chiron. Yes, this is a great placement for running an organization in the medical or healing field, but frequently, no matter what the career, someone with a 10th house Chiron will feel that they are taking care of everybody and everything else except themselves. As usual, there will frequently be an uncanny ability to help everyone else succeed better than they could ever have done themselves. It could also work out the other way. There may be a total rejection of any sort of ambition or responsibility, most likely due to fear of failure. Perhaps the parents pushed you too hard to succeed and really got on your case when you slipped up (or even when you didn't). The other side of the coin is that some parents don't want their children to succeed and always put them down. You can get either reaction to an upbringing of that nature: a compulsive need to achieve or a rejection of any success or responsibility.

Chiron in the 11th: Learning appropriate ideals and friendships.
Those with Chiron in the 11th could be involved in the running of various kinds of therapy or healing centres. They might be sensitive to the pain in society and perhaps concerned with helping or teaching those who are oppressed or downtrodden. There may be a nagging fear of rejection or slight within the context of groups and friendships or some hurt incurred through such involvements. Ultimately this pain could act as a catalyst for further self-knowledge and self understanding.
Friends may carry any of the connotations of Chiron — either people involved in the healing /teaching profession or those who are obviously psychologically or physically vulnerable. Those with Chiron here may serve as mentors to their friends, or look to their associates for guidance, direction and support.

Chiron in in the 11th: This placement indicates a deep connection to the psyche and the collective unconscious...but also indicates there are usually blocks to overcome. Here the wound is usually a sense of disconnection, distance, isolation and alienation from people, from the world, and even sometimes from the Universe. This feeling of being unable to fit in may make us reject the tenets of groups or society, but the longing to belong remains.
Often, due to the sensitivity to the collective, people with Chiron in the 11th will be progressive, forward thinking. They may be rejected by groups and society simply because they are ahead of their time. There are shades of 'discovery' here.
When you feel disconnected, try listing the special ways in which you are connected to life, to others, to the world and to the Universe. List the benefits and gifts of feeling alone, isolated and alienated. Also list the ways in which your 'differentness' is a gift and blessing to you and others. Write your thoughts and dreams in a journal.

Chiron in the 11th house: The problem areas are friends, hopes, and wishes. On the one hand, there could be difficulty having or holding on to friends, or a fear of crowds or groups. On the other hand, one may compulsively seek out friends (or join groups, especially groups that want to change society) in order to compensate for inner fears of loneliness. You might get more than your share of "friends" who take advantage and drain you. More often, you give to friends whether they want it or not because this gives you a feeling of control (Saturn). But you could be the drainer here, always asking things of friends in order to compensate for a psychological neediness that never seems to be filled.

Chiron in the 12th: Learning appropriate renunciation.
In Eve Jackson's study, Chiron in the 12th is the third most frequent position of Chiron in the charts of healers /therapists. Of these, two distinct groups were noted: those who practised "spiritual healing", such as the laying on of hands or even absent/remote healing, and those who worked primarily with dreams or guided imaging. For those with Chiron in the 12th, unhealed wounds may be buried deep in the unconscious or stem from a difficult pre-natal experience. The psychologist Arthur Janov, author of The Primal Scream, was born with Chiron in the 12th in Aries; he feels that the way to reconnect to one's true power and vitality (Aries) is through releasing these deeply entrenched early traumas.
Some people with 12th house Chirons have had connections with healing or teaching in previous lives. In any case, those with this placement have the potential to tap a rich source of practical wisdom stored in the recesses of their own psyches.

Chiron in the 12th: This placement indicates that your cultural religion probably doesn’t work for you. You have to seek outside, and that seeking is your destiny.

Chiron in the 12th house: As always, Chiron shows where we can do more for others than ourselves. A 12th house Chiron may compulsively try to take care of the poor the sick, and the unfortunate while neglecting their own needs and those of their own family. Conversely, there may be malingering and the person with this placement may themselves always seem in "need" because of one (frequently self-caused) "problem" after another. This placement tends to make a person feel tired and fatigued. If you have this one, be sure to get plenty of rest.

Chiron in Aspect:

Chiron and the Sun: The effects can be similar to Chiron in Leo (which is ruled by the Sun). Chiron aspects to the Sun can make you feel "special." There is frequently a strong sense of being here for some grand "purpose" or other. There is an ability to help others with their creativity and self-expression, but if you have this aspect, make sure not to neglect your own. Negatively, there could be an increased sensitivity to criticism of any sort. Learn to take it without feeling like you are being attacked or that they all hate you.

Chiron and the Moon: When you were a kid, did you have the feeling that your mother wanted to be doing something else instead of take care of you? One of the negative effects of Chiron in aspect to the Sun (mentioned above) is difficulty in accepting criticism. By contrast, with Chiron aspecting the Moon, you can think you are being criticized you even when you are not, and then you react to this imaginary "attack." Of course there will also be the tendency to "mother" others and help them with their emotional expression. Be careful not to smother while you mother.

Chiron and Mercury: The positive side of this combination is increased ability to communicate and teach, to stir the minds of others. These aspects can really be inspirational. But, you could feel that you have just communicated brilliantly when you actually didn't. Conversely, you might feel that your communication bombed when it was really right on target.

Chiron and Venus: Please try to get some pleasure for yourself in a relationship instead of always helping your partner to open up. Chiron/Venus aspects can make for a great art teacher who (as always with Chiron) can teach their students to create art better than they themselves could ever do. These aspects are also good for giving great financial advice (Venus rules Taurus, the money sign) while one's own handling of money matters is a disaster area.

Chiron and Mars: The difficulties here involve aggression and assertiveness. People with these aspects could be ultra aggressive as a cover for feelings of inadequacy, or, conversely, behave passively to conceal inner rage and hostility. To resolve Chiron/Mars problems, the trick is to find a balance point between the two (shades of Libra, the sign opposite Mars-ruled Aries). This is a perfect position for a coach who can teach (Chiron) others how to perform athletic feats that they themselves could never do.

Chiron and Jupiter: The stressful aspects (square, opposition, and sometimes the conjunction) can produce a person who has all the answers. Just ask them. The problem is that the crusading tendencies are usually a cover to keep from facing up to one's own inner problems. Conversely, there may be a total lack of faith or optimism. The cure in both cases is to confront the inner wounds that are really underlying the outward behavior. A big danger with this placement is that one can become a guru groupie or a seer sucker. People with Chiron/Jupiter aspects can also have the ability to inspire others more than they can inspire themselves. Indeed, they can fill others with optimism even when they themselves feel pessimistic and depressed.

Chiron and Saturn: Saturn organizes and controls. The person with a Chiron/Saturn aspect will tend to be compulsively controlling and over organized. The reason could a fear of letting go, or perhaps they are still trying to please an over restrictive parent. The other side of the coin would be someone who is highly disorganized and sloppy, or seems too fearful or depressed to make a move. A high colonic would be helpful here to remove that lead pipe (Saturn) from their rear end.

Chiron and Uranus: This type of person is the one who can say things like: "Be for peace, or I'll kill you!" The tendency is to love people in the abstract, but not in the flesh. They love the ideal of brotherhood and sisterhood of all people. It's relating to actual, live, real human beings that turns them off. This is because relating requires them to show some feelings, a concept they find alien and icky. But feelings and emotions are exactly what have to be worked on here. The Chiron/Uranus individual may produce brilliant works of genius while all the time feeling stupid. More often, they will come up with off the wall ideas that they claim are works of genius. Chiron/Uranus people may be completely "Uranian," constantly mouthing shocking opinions, or they may go to the opposite extreme and be against anything that is new in any way. If they manage to keep themselves grounded, in contact with reality and their own emotions, their true genius can flow freely.

Chiron and Neptune: Neptune rules dreams, imagination, and intuition. On the negative side, it shows where we try to avoid any reality that we find unpleasant. Sometimes this can manifest as a rejection of anything "mystical." Or the other extreme could come out and produce someone who can't make a move without consulting a psychic. The intuitive powers may feel blocked. Conversely, they may be active with a vengeance and constantly contradict the "logical" conclusions that are reached. Chiron/Neptune could make for someone who constantly "malingers" and avoids all unpleasant situations (anything requiring work or contact with reality). The alternative is a person who is hard working, "responsible" in a very conventional way, and suppresses their imaginative-creative side. Then, all of a sudden, they become an alcoholic, drug addict, or have a mental breakdown of some sort. They could also fall in "love" with someone who has these problems (or who is a con artist) and get completely drained, even ruined. A perfect example of this comes from the world of literature: the professor that Marlene Dietrich's character ruined in "The Blue Angel." The way to deal with Chiron/Neptune is to strike a balance, to let the Neptune genie out of the bottle in a constructive way, to give vent to the sympathy and imagination without giving up reality. If you've been repressing the Neptune, take a class in art (or better yet, dance). Do some volunteer charity work. If you happen to be the malingering type of Chiron/Neptune, your cover is blown. The malingering is not the real problem. It is the smokescreen you put up to hide your real problems. Wake up and deal with them.

Chiron and Pluto: Pluto is like a super version of Mars. One of the main differences is that Mars is usually open and overt, while Pluto rules hidden, subconscious forces that build unseen and then explode with volcanic power. On the negative side, Chiron/Pluto aspects can (like Chiron/Mars) cause one to be an aggressive bully. But Mars will just push others around; Pluto wants to totally dominate. A highly negative example is Francisco Assis, the Brazilian serial killer, who has the opposition of Chiron to his 5th house placement of Pluto. The 5th house rules romance. Let me remind you again that one aspect by itself does not make for a mass murderer. There are very few serial killers in the world, but because Chiron and Pluto both move slowly, almost everyone born in that same year had this aspect, and that could mean over a million people. The reason Chiron/Pluto can cause one to act in a domineering manner is to compensate for subconscious fear of being weak and helpless. The cure for this Chiron Pluto type is to confront their own inner feelings of weakness. Conversely, the Pluto power could be suppressed. The result could be someone who is always getting picked on by bullies, or coming out on the wrong end of power struggles. They are afraid of letting their power out. Most likely, when they were children, any release of that tremendous Pluto force caused their parents to come down hard, and Pluto was pushed underground. The cure here is to recognize and take responsibility for one's own power, and to find ways to let it out constructively. A more positive example of Pluto/Chiron is Jonas Salk, the inventor of the first effective anti-polio vaccine. He did not have an aspect between Chiron and Pluto, but he had the Sun opposite the Chiron/Pluto midpoint. In his case, the positive, healing side of both Chiron and Pluto came out dramatically. Another positive example is George Bernard Shaw, who had Chiron in the 9th house (philosophy, publishing, "higher" mental functions) making a square aspect with Pluto in the 12th house (restrictions, "hidden" things). His Chiron was also opposite the Sun and Venus, so the power came out mostly in intellectual matters.

Chiron and the Ascendant: Since the Ascendant is always exactly opposite the Descendant, an aspect to one is also an aspect to the other. This means if you have a Chiron/Ascendant aspect, you must have a Chiron/Descendant aspect as well. As a result, this combination affects the way we start things, our initial approach to the world, and the way people see us (Ascendant). But it also affects the way we relate to others (Descendant). People with Chiron/Ascendant aspects can be great teachers or healers, but there is a wild side that can come to the surface. It becomes easier to "wound" others or be wounded by them. A positive way to use this would be to help others work through their problems. Rona Barrett, the gossip columnist, is a perfect example. She has Chiron in her 10th house (career) in the sign of Gemini (communications) and it is square her Ascendant. She has made a career out of making the wounds of others (Descendant) public (10th house).

midpoints might work with Hygeia

my Sun is conjunct Neptune/Hygeia midpoint with 1 minute of arc, and that could probably indicate my highly sensitivity body/health. This is probably why I can relate to have Moon in Pisces in 6th square Neptune.
It can add to theme of that placement.

also my father had stationary Neptune in Virgo oppose Hygeia in Pisces. He had Moon in Pisces.
My Sun conjunct Neptune/Hygeia midpoint would fit with my father in that way.

I am not sure how much influence Chiron in 8th has in my chart. My retrograde Eris in 12'15 Aries is conjunct my retrograde Chiron in 10'32 Aries in the 8th, and I am starting to think that it's more about my Eris being in the 8th that I feel something in my 8th house. After all, it is dwarf planet that is larger than Pluto.

my Hygeia in 8'50 Libra in 2nd oppose my Chiron in Retrograde 10'32 in Aries 8th, and they trine/sextile my Midheaven in 11'14 Gemini and trine/sextile my North Lunar Node in 10'30 Aquarius in 5th. My Hygeia and Chiron are in an exact parallel to each other. My Ascendant parallel my Chiron with 20 minutes of arc and contraparallel my Hygeia with 20 minutes of arc.

I was meant to be in the healing arts.
