A free software called "Junior Jyotish" for windows will help. Never mind the Vedic style charts, the important thing is a period report of the major and then minor directions of life from birth till age 120 [maximum lifespan of one major cycle according to Vedic Astrology].The major periods are called "Maha Dasha". If you have an afflicted Moon in the Tropical or Sidereal chart, and you are going to start your Moon Mahadasha, then many ups and downs will occur for a period of 10 years. Some people seem to have bad luck for 7 years, they have afflicted Sun or South Node [Ketu in Vedic] or Mars, their periods are 7 years respectively. Mars is 6. This is where the 7 years of bad luck comes from, 3/9 planets have a near 7 year cycle and are easy to observe. Many celebrities have nearly 2 decades of superb careers, these are on a Venus MahaDasha of 20 years after then end of their teenage life. These major periods are subdivided into 9 periods of minor dashas, again following the ratio 7:20:7:10:6:18:16:19:17. The subdivision is called Dasha. Dasha is further subdivided into periods that last just weeks and this is called Antar-Dasha. Why am I boring you all with this terminology? It is because on Nov 28 2008, my family was flooded out of our home and we escaped to the main road in a makeshift dinghy. None of us had malefic transits, just a few challenging ones. None were common. Yet all 4 of us were afflicted. Something common was manifesting all the tropical chart challenges into one major event. This was the only day for many decades where all 4 of us [me, wife and two babies] were in the Saturn Sub Division of a Dasha (even though Mahadashas and Dashas were different.) A major activation of Group Karma. I was later able to reuse this knowledge for precise birth time rectification, upto the minute of birth. This knowledge is the key to fine tuning predictive astrology even though Vedics use Sidereal Chart. Sidereal Vedic astrology seems not to have too much value in Psychological Astrology but in accurate life cycle discovery, from which we can apply tropical chart transits or progressions. ------------------ http://tamsoft.co.in/articles.html IP: Logged |

I have a question about these dashas. My Ketu something-Dasha begins on May 21st 1980, 3 years before I was born. And my moment of birth falls into Ketu/Mars/Sun Dasha. Does this mean anything or is it the same for everyone?IP: Logged |

Everyone will have different Dashas.Let me explain. [pls do not hate me for writing the complicated theory...] Vedic Astrology calculates the Moon Sign according to its Nakshatra or Lunar Mansion. 27 such mansions are split into 9 groups for the 9 Vedic planetary bodies. There is a table that shows which Nakshatra will have a starting Mahadasha (in wikipedia, just look yo Mahadasha and Nakshatra). The distance travlled by the Moon in its Nakshatra is calculated as a percenatge of time elapsed in that startup Mahadasha, and then the subsequent Mahadashas occur. Example: I have Sidereal Moon in Hasta Nakshatra at 13.04 degrees Virgo. Hasta starts with Moon Mahadasha. Hasta covers 10 Virgo to 23.4 Virgo. Percentage Elapsed = 3.04/13.4 = 22% Moon Mahadasha = 10 years. Total elasped = 22% of 10 years = 2.2 years. Hence, I will have 7.8 years of Moon Mahadasha and then Mars Mahadasha for 6 years and then suffer Rahu Mahadasha for 18 more years till I am nearly 32. Within the Moon Mahadasha, there will be dashas starting from Moon and ending with Sun. These dashas are fine tuned into smaller antardasdhas. You will have many same antardashas repeating in one dasha. But evry mahadasha willk have only one dasha per planetary body. IP: Logged |

Ok, since I posted that I did some reasearch too about this (minus the percentages ). I understand now. I looked at my dashas and generally when bad things happened in my life, I was going through a Saturn dasha; the only exceptions are the death of my beloved grandfather at 11 and the death of my grandmother last year. The rest is all during Saturn dashas. Some good stuff also happened in those times, like passing my residency exam, though it was a horrible experience it had a positive outcome. IP: Logged |

However, does it have a significance that you were born during a particular combination of dashas? Like some sort of lesson or advice for this life?IP: Logged |

It does have significance but there is no clear documentation about it. The Brahmins in India who practice Astrology are a secretive lot and thanks to their superiority complex, the world has lost tons of useful vedic astrology knowledge. Only the source, "Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra" remains, as does a mysterious palmistry-astrology book named "Lal Kitab" which too has many mysterious and advanced interpretations and is not easy for the modern day astrologer as the book does not have a proper English Translation. Lal Kitab's astrology alone is in english. The full text even has mappings of palmistry and planets to every portion of the Brain! The birth dashas govern the sequence of other sub-dashas in life which will get modified by every planetary transit. I have an untested hypothesis that the Moon is like a "Y" Coordinate. The "X" Coordinate could be the Sun or Ascendant. We have to use the software to find a time that places the Moon in the Sun and then Asc position and get all the dasha dates. Then check if there was a clash of Saturn sub dasha in Moon and Sun or Asc periods. IP: Logged |
