I'm not sure where in one's chart I can find this. I had this nice long talk with a lady upstairs at the family resources center and it was quite an interesting conversation. In my mind family stands for being there for one another, etc.... The family I came from was opposite . Every man for themselves and you're on your own, don't friggen bother me with ANYTHING attitude.

What kind of aspect/placement would show this, IN GENERAL?

Same here. They would listen to friend/group over family. I can see that as the way forward for society in general. Been predicted many times, family all but dissolved.

I have 1st ruler square 4th ruler. That could be it.

I would look at the moon, Jupiter, and the IC's ruler for family, religious, and philisophical differences.

My 4th and 10th house rulers are in opposition. Venus is squared by Jupiter and Neptune. And the big family value thing in my chart...Moon in cancer....

My own mother will takes sides with my exboyfriends and become their best friend. It's sickening...I'd hate to see what would have happened if my mom was single....she'd probably ask them out....what a horrible nightmare.

I guess some people have selfish reasons for having a family.

I agree.....selfish reasons. I can't understand why the selfishness. It could be the money coming in or something and their hearts are not in it.....oh so many different scenarios on why....

I have been brought up and taught about family values and life in general. There is a difference to what people feed you and how it is. If people were honest, direct, clear and upfront about how it is, all would be fine.

I'd rather take the how it is and not have anything sugar coated!

My 4th and 10th rulers (strongly placed but very poorly aspected) are in opposition as well and my family upbringing was dysfunctional to put it mildly.

We were expected to ‘vacate the premises’ early and we all obliged, my older siblings and myself left home at age15 with no hesitation on our part, not sure when the youngest two left as we all have minimal to no contact these days except for weddings and funerals and seeing how none of us have married its really only funerals.

My mother does not have a relationship with her now adult children. She is bitter and thinks we are all ungrateful. When there was no nurturing, no hugs but lots of ‘shut up’, ‘stay out of my way’ I can’t imagine what she was expecting to cultivate.

I was told to get the hell out at age 18 and I'm the oldest. As far as I know the 2 youngest (who are now 23 and 28) still live at home for free! I'm estranged from my Mother now......

I was reading that family estrangement is common these days.

It makes sense with the 4th and 10 house rulers in aspect though!
